Hey guys, so I just wanna clear up some of the frequently asked questions I see on here, since I won't be able to get to absolutely everyone. So first off, the mixRGB node addon is no longer available, and it's been replaced by the Mix Color node, which pretty much functions the exact same. As for subsurface, it's become a dropdown in the Principled BSDF that says "subsurface", so all you need to do is click it plug your subsurface texture into the "radius" input shown there. For anyone struggling with the eyelids, make sure that you are using the correct opa texture shown in the video, and make sure that your viewport display is set to "Alpha Clip". Lastly, and the most important, the parenting. When you're parenting ANYTHING, make sure you are in OBJECT MODE. If you parent in POSE MODE, your object will just lock to the root of your armature. Hope this clears some stuff up, good luck everyone!
hi man can you tell me why when i move the leg the pant don't really move with it ? thanks
thanks a lot for the tutorial video and the updated answer❤🎉
How do you do the spots at the end of the tentacles?
For myself to stay sane
17:00 Shit on head
17:33 eyebrows
20:20 Color face
28:55 pants problem

thank you
The Smallfry animation from the beginning was beautiful ❤️
great minds think alike
the smallfry animation at the start was art
He's the fish boi
A true masterpiece
this was a great comprehensive tutorial! i'd love if you made an updated version on how you use these models to make animations and what goes on with how you rig them (considering the fact that they dont have IK or anything)
awesome tutorial!! this is the first ever actually clear tutorial on splatoon blender so i appreciate it ❤❤❤❤
Ooff this is soo beginner friendly i thank you so much !! You explain so well
this is the best tutorial for anything ive ever seen
Nice I might be able to use this tutorial for posters for my DocVid Series!
Thanks to you for this video !! Now, I can make my Splatoon oc on blender
Thank you so much!! I can finally make my oc I'm so happy
I haven’t watched it yet but I’m sooo EXCITED🥳can’t wait to watch this movie☺️
Thank you bro i really needed this
No problem!
ive always had trouble with the skin and eye thingies thank you!!!!💯
No problem!
timestamps for me

Your good at this thank u so much I have learned a lot bc of u
wow best of best!
this is SUCH a good tutorial and i was able to make my character, can we get a part 2 for like posing? if not, since i know it said it wasnt a movement tutorial in the beginning, then where can i find a good tutorial for that, im a little lost
having an issue with thew eyelids, I've copied your nodes exactly but whenever I move the eyelids it doesn't show my character's eyes (even though I have textured them), instead it's just pitch black eyelids which I assume are meant to be transparent. I feel like this could somewhat be related to the fact that I am using blender 4.0 and thus have the newer version of the bsdf node. Is there a way to get the old node? or is it a separate problem?
I am having issues with the octo tee shirt model. the wristbands and shirt don't want to parent to the character properly, same with blue moto boots but that's a different issue.
in object mode everything moves fine, but in pose mode it ignores the arms moving, despite being parented and it being modified to my character. any idea why this is happening? I am on blender 4.0.2
Edit: After a bit was tweaking I now have the wrist bands and shirt semi behaving now. it still doesn't want to move properly, but at least they move now. still having no luck on the boots however
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS RAAAGH it helped me more than you know TwT. Also, is there a chance youll make a "How to Animate/Rig/Pose Splatoon 3 blender models?" Id be eternally grestful since im just now dipping my toes into the blender splatoon thing :prayge:
No problem! I'll be doing some follow ups in the future, likely after I finish the 1K special!
yo im not sure if it was gone over in the video but how do i connect the hair to the body (like, how do i make it move with the head)
Plz do make how to put a splatoon 2 clothes on a splatoon 3 model that’s the part I’m struggling the most
I was doing alright until the Shading/Texturing part, due to the fact it seems things are already set up, and I don't know what would go where, since they are named different things and etc. I assume this is because i am using a newer version of blender compared to the one in the video. Does anyone have tips
i think blender had an update and i dont see the subsurface color node thing on the principles bsdf. do you know how i can make it work without that?
Hello ! do you know how to make the character do different facial expressions (more specifically the mouth)? thanks !
I am confused on something not in the video, I am using the capn cap and I want to be able to change it’s color but I dont know if is possible, and want to know if the Mtl file has something to do with it
can someone explain how to acctually lock the clothes to the model the wrench doesnt show up for me when i try to also im using splatoon 2 clothes but a splatoon 3 model do i have to use a splatoon 2 one?
What about weapons?
I have a small problem... the clothes and shoes don't move with the character when I rotate the parts (they do move when I move the mesh on Pose mode). Not even the shirt or shoes move/deform when I move their 'bones'.
Other than that, the video helped me with everything I needed to know, thanks!
(I just fixed the clothes issue, now the shoes is the only problem left)
In 29:55 my principled bstf is giving me the wrong alpha what should i do ?
great video!!! i have a small issue though, how do you use splat2 shoe models on the player model? every time i try to, the shoes keep getting placed underneath the player. is there any way to fix it?
Sorry to respond so late, I've been real busy lol. I'm gonna do a follow up for Splatoon 2 gears, so just hang tight until then. If you want a quick solve though, all you gotta do is match the vertex bone groups of the Splat2 shoe to that of your avatar's armature. I breifly went over it at around 15:28.
19:28 For myself. I'll come back tomorrow
18:46 for some reason my character’s eyebrows don’t move whenever I try to move them like he did
U ARE AMAZING!!!! im not totally new to splatoon blender art, but honestly this helped me out with my skin and hair nodes, like i literally did not use the trm and thc bc i aint know how to use them 💀💀💀💀💀 ty man!!!
MIX_RGB does not show up in add-ons for me. Do I need to go back to a previous version of Blender or is there a download for it somewhere? (version 4.0)
Yeah, it seems like the 4.0 update changed a lot of stuff around. Here's the link to the addon script, all you need to do is manually install it via the addons tab
blenderartists.org/t/restored-the-mix-rgb-node-huge-time-saver/1443240
@@Venumus22 Thanks
@@Venumus22 i downloaded the add one where i should find it
@@Mlo0kk You'll need to install it manually, so just go to the "install" button on your addons tab and select the downloaded zip file
@@Venumus22 I appreciate it thank you 💙💙 but i have another question may i ask you ?
24:27 I cant find the sub surface color, do I need to enable a setting or something?
If you go into the dropdown that says "subsurface" you can just plug your output into the "radius" input.
Why the eyes don't appear in the octo boy 3d model ?
when i try to render the octoling boy model it comes out weird, the inside of the eyes are like a transparent purple and the head his like a glass texture. Any body else have that issue/ know how to fix it?
What happens when you don't have color node available when you search it? I can't find it
Quick question. Where is the link for the tutorial on how to put splatoon 2 clothes on splatoon 3 models. (Please tell me if I am oblivious)
I’m stuggling with saving a image that’s basically render and all the sparkles and shiny stuff is gone
for some reason the face of my male inkling doesn't have skin colour texture or eyelids , its just white after turning on the shade veiwport
Its like that because there isn't a texture connected to the principle BSDF.
at 18:24 its not letting me select the bone ‘eyebrow R’ am i doing something incorrect?
Are you in pose mode?
Question, is there a way to export the model with it's textures to use in another blender file?
You can append the collection from your avatar's file to the new one. There should be some tutorials online
I am very happy to make an avatar for Splatoon 3.
So I have a question.
Can I use the blender to make animations?
Also, when making it, should I add new bones to move it?
Yes, you can use blender to make animations.
I cannot find how to put Splatoon 2 clothes on Splatoon 3 models can you help
I have an issue where my Splatoon 3 inkling wont move with a Splatoon 2 shirt in pose mode. I also have Splatoon 2 white punk boots and they work completely fine.
I also have an issue with the ripped pants i cant figure out how to make the colors of the ripped parts match the skin color
Hey! did you ever figured out on the problem with the splatoon 2 shirt i'm having that problem as well.
@@DreamySwayen sadly not 😔
@@freezethez42069 Aww man well thanks anyway!
@@DreamySwayen no problemo
How do I find different models for the pants? I’m trying to find the model with the tears, but I’m having difficulty. Do you have a list explaining what models is in which file for the pants?
If you're talking about the diffent models of the leggings, the leggings are just in one model with different textures which contain the ripped leggings.
@@Axpect_ oh thank you! So the ripped jeans would be under file 1?
@@mechebunger2055 If I remember correctly, yes. Sorry for not responding, I didn't get a notification. If you still need help, I can help out!
YOOOO!!!!
Took a W H I L E, but this is great!
I have a problem that has to do with the instruction at 14:50, when I Set the object to Inkling, the mesh snaps to where it was when I imported it. It still moves with the foot as you said, but it's in the wrong position. Help would be very appreciated!
Okay, this may be a parenting issue with the objects. Did you make sure to parent the mesh you want to use to the armature for your inkling? Setting the object within the armature modifier of the mesh you want to attach will allow the matching bones of the mesh to move with the inkling armature, but will not completely parent it.
@@Venumus22 Yes, as far as I know everything is parented. The meshes all appear underneath "Inkling" in the outliner.
@@Venumus22 How would I check?
@@Venumus22 Well, I haven't figured out how to fix it yet, but THANK YOU for this tutorial!!! It's got me MUCH further than anything else I've looked at so far, I'm looking forward to Part 2!
Thanks lol I know a lot of people wanted help with this. As for your problem, I can look into it more once I get back to my PC. If you have discord or something like that, I can definitely help you figure this out! In the meantime though, I'll see if I can find a solution.
hmmm blender
that sounds awfly familiar
OH NO TARTAR
Hey lad! My version of blender doesn’t have the restore mix_rgb add-on. Do you know which blender version you have that does?
I believe 3.4 and up has the restore mixrgb addon. Let me know if you're still having issues. I'm using Blender 3.6 in the video.
@@Venumus22 im not seeing it in 4.0
@@confettipop Okay, do you have discord? I can just send you the script for the restore mixrgb addon there. Sorry it's giving you so much trouble.
Also @swagmaster9464 if you still cannot find it, you're welcome to message me as well!
@@confettipop in 3.6 up it’s mix color i believe
HELP WHAT IF WHEN I SEARCH MIX IT DOESNT SHOW?😭😭😭
I managed to do everything except render it as an image. For some reason, when it is rendered, the mouth returns with multiple mouths and the default skin tone and black clipping in the pants and shoes. Do you know what might be causing this?
Remember that you need to disable the renders for multiple objects before you even start anything else. I went over that around the 5:00 mark, so go check that out again. lmk if you're still having issues
@@Venumus22
I realized I forgot to turn off the disable in renders. Sorry, I'm brand new to Blender. TYSM!!!
Hey @Venumus22
I'm extremely grateful for what you did since now I'm able to do something that I wasn’t able to do. However, I have a couple of questions.
1. How do you change the color of the hair's tips? Like instead of them being dry, is there a way to change the color?
2. Do you how to access gear from the recent update?.. as the Model Resource isn't up to date.
Can't stop thanking you bro!.
@@Axpect_ 1. You can try playing around with the emission input to make your hair have that gradient color
2. Unfortunately, Models Resource does not have a lot of the gear, so you just gotta work with what they have
@@Venumus22 Hi again, this is my last question. For m_eyelids_alb.1.png. How do you use that texture. The white lines show up thick, how do you make them thin?
24:38 The subsurface colour doesn't exist for me, has the BSDF changed? is there another way to do it?
31:50 I'm unable to get the eye node menu to show up and its near impossible to just click it on the model. any ideas?
For the subsurface color, create a Mix Color node, plug the (24:30) multiply into Mix color "B" and unplug the multiply that is in "Base Color" and plug it into Mix color "A", then plug Mix Color "Result" into "Base Color".
You can edit the subsurface color in the subsurface section of the Principled BSDF node, with Weight and Scale... Radius is the color
@@Pispok. I did what was you said but it made the skin un naturally dark and the colour wouldn't rlly change no matter what the radius was in the bsdf or the colour on the multiply
@@phased_loona really sorry i think i made a mistake, i said how to do the hair instead of the skin 😅
@Pispok. nah your fine lol, figured out the skin and had problems with the hair that this'll help with anyway. Ty again
@@phased_loonaoh okay :P
for some reason I can't put the shoe on the other foot? 10:48 around there, it's just not working
Are you having trouble moving the duplicate shoe, or are you having problems with the armature?
@@Venumus22i got it sorted now,, just had trouble hearing what key. I kept pressing b instead of d to duplicate it 😭
Ok great!
does this work for the steam version of blender?
Yes
Restore mix rgb is not showing up for me
any suggestions
for some reason i try to connect eye brows to head and they wont connect
Add bone contraints copy transforms target octoling, bone head_eyeblow_L
For some reason the bone keeps not appearing in that little tab making it not bind
is there a plugin i need to install
Okay, for the restore mixrgb, you'll need to install it manually with the code from this site:blenderartists.org/t/restored-the-mix-rgb-node-huge-time-saver/1443240
For the eyebrow bones, could you describe the issue to me? It's a bit unclear
@@Venumus22 18:40 into your video, when your showing how to bind the eye brows.
The steps were to add bone constraint copy transforms target the body and inderneath that was called bone and you would bone the bone of the eye brow to the octoling. For some reason if I try to bind the bones the bones wouldn’t bind it would just reset as if nothing happened
The "Mix RGB" option is showing up for me
Its not showing up for me either, please send reply when youve fixed the issue
@@game4us_Splatuber in blender 3.4+ the rgb mix was replaced with mix. it still functions the same, just need to do a couple more steps. I am busy atm so I suggest looking up a quick tutorial
how do i install the mix rgb node :(
in the newest version of blender, you don't get the node from the addons menu
You go to the node editor, right click on an empty space in the editor , then go to add, color, mix color and there it is. works the same, just a name change
@phased_loona OOOOHHH that makes more sense tysm :3
maybe im doing something wrong, but at 4:55, my textures are just fully white?😭
Did you click on viewport shading?
22:24
Timestamp for meself: 26:33
suggestion: add sections in the video. so intro, adding files, etc.
Damn, I totally forgot that part, thanks for reminding me
does it also work for mac?
Yea
2:27 the misc option dosent show up for me??
Check that you have community addons enabled, and if it still doesn't work, you can manually install the addon through this website (Sorry for the late reply btw):
blenderartists.org/t/restored-the-mix-rgb-node-huge-time-saver/1443240
@@Venumus22 ohhh i see now, ty
Awesome tutorial! Unfortunately I can’t find an add on 😭 What version of blender are you using, I rolled back from 4.0 to 3.6 and I still can’t find the Mix_rgb add on
Edit: Going to test with the Mix Color node
me too i can t find it what should i do ? plus what does mix RGB do exactly and should i keep editing without it ?
@@Mlo0kkSo it’s been replaced with Mix Color in the shading sections nodes. To find it go to the shading tab, and when you click on something it should show some nodes press “shift + A” and then it’s Mix Color. You won’t find it in edit > preferences. It may act a little differently but it should get the job done! Hope this helps ;3
@@Mlo0kkas for what the node does, it does something with color values.
In Cycles a color is just a set of 3 numbers representing the red, blue, and green content of the color. To perform a mathematical operation on a color Cycles splits the color up into its RGB channels, performs the operation on each channel individually, and then combines them back into a Color datatype again.
The Mix RGB node, when set to difference, returns the absolute value of the first color minus the second color. Mathematically: Color = |Color1 - Color2|.
@@galacticdoge1834 i still didn t find it yet but thank you tho
@@Mlo0kk what version of blender are you using? And do you have discord I can send photos of where to find it!
Wait, do you have to do this every time you want to make a new character?
For every new character, yes. If you want to use a previously created character though, you can just append the file and select "Collection"
@@Venumus22can you also copy some stuff to another character to speed things up if they use some the same hair or shirt?
Really, you should only do that for textures, but if you really want to copy over the same clothes or hair, you will need to manually duplicate and re-parent the models.
@@Venumus22 man, this seems overcomplicated for each character, I’ll just stick with gmod for now…
@@da_pwo Understandable, the process can be a bit overwhelming if you're just switching to Blender. If it makes you feel better though, once you make a character in Blender, you never need to make them again, sorta like gmod dupes.

This is a great tutorial BUT you completely messed up the hair i doubt i could explain it here wish i could though

probably both
