  • Don't learn Blender. It will consume your life. I spent so much time learning to 3d model and animate in Blender. I have always wanted to perform and act in my live streams, and after watching Dr. Disrespect perform in his Blender scenes, I knew I had to learn. So let me know, was it worth it for me to learn Blender? Should I keep making blender scenes as a beginner?

6:00 in and it hurts me to hear that nobody in any of those threads told you that you can recover lost files by going: file>External Data>Find Missing Files and selecting the folder where your textures were stored. Also, a psa to make it so you can move your files without corrupting everything: File>External Data> Automatically Pack Resources. This way any texture files you add will be saved as a copy in the data of your .blend file.

@@AdamBaird I'm just getting started switching over to Blender from Maya 3D and its been a few years. I gotta say, its bizarre how much is different between the programs. Both are super complex, but blender seems to be a lot more user friendly. Some friends of mine and I are working on a game together and I thought I could help with some creative inspiration. Having some 3D Modelling/Animation experience does help, but it is taking some time getting reacclimated. I look forward to seeing what you create!

As someone who's been modelling and texturing for well over 10 years, this is quite a phenomenal progression in just 100 hours. You should feel very proud of yourself :)
As a tip though, if getting further into 3D is something you want to do, it would pay you early on to switch Blender's navigation style to "maya" in the user preferences. This is because that's what nearly every other piece of software uses as it's standard navigation. And since you might want to get into advanced texturing with Substance, advanced rendering with Marmoset or advanced cloth creation with Marvelous Designer, breaking the muscle memory early on it much easier than trying to do it after months or years of getting used to it (first hand experience there).
    Top work!

you should not do this because it will make it 100 times harder to follow tutorial and allot of the setting in blender will be harder to find. just get convertible with blender because learning how to move in the viewport takes 20 second to leurn and 1 hour to get used too

I work in about 5 different software packages all with different navigation. You can adapt. At least blender lets you pick left click vs right click now! If you want to do it professionally and you hop between software then configure everything to your level of comfort. I work mainly in CAD and going to blender the pan vs rotate keys are switched but after a fumble or two the muscle memory kicks in.
      Amazing progress in 100hours!

I’m switching career fields from software engineering to 3D modeling because of the freedom to model anything desirable in any given field (video games, CA, architecture, etc) and always dreamed of creating models for video game devs to use. This project you did is very similar to where I want to be. I just started but the learning curve is huge in the course I’m using. However it’s still very interesting for me more then computer science. I’ll hope to get similar results in my first 100 hours

You are right, 3D modelling is much more fun and interesting than computer science, computer science is limited to abstraction while 3D modelling lets you create a simulation similar to our world. Computer science can also do that but 3D modelling gives you a visual simulation

Blender is such a versatile program that you can spend thousands of hours using it, and still have no idea what most of the UI does. I've put in over 4000 hours and I could tell you all about creating functional character assets for video games, but I would be incredibly lost if I had to make a scene like this.
Especially that rendering, it took TWO DAYS?! I don't know what I'd do with my life if I had to let my PC just chill and render for that long. I'd probably start googling render farms so I'd never have to do it again, lol.

I see a lot of work, effort, blood, sweat and maybe a little bit of your soul put into this project and even though you put 100hrs into this project its still impressive, it gave me some motivation but not enough to do thing of my own in Blender ^^" ANYWAY!!! love the video, liked the video and congratualtions you got yourself a new subscriber

I've learnt that some people have two superpowers called patience and attention to detail that allow this to happen.
I never manage to stick to the same project for more than a few hours max.
It loses all emotional value to me once I see how I *COULD* have done it and all that's left is going through the motions of learning and doing.

Good job on this. And thank you. I have been looking into learning Blender for something I wanted to do. You have shown me that I simply don't have the time to learn Blender like I would like to. It took you 100 hours to get from 0 experience to a 15 second segment which is very impressive. But I simply don't have that kind of time. Blender is obviously very powerful. Nice work.

You learned blender in 100 hours that is awesome I started learning it almost a year ago and still am lagging behind it is mainly because of my laziness but you made me want to improve my skills thanks for that :)

So cool! I am glad that you liked the video. Blender is pretty complicated. When 3.0 comes out there will be a lot of cool new features!

    • @Ludifant
      @Ludifant 2 роки тому +4

Maybe it's not laziness, maybe you just need to set yourself an ambitious goal. Try to find the edge between nice to have and too ambitious so you'll give up preemptively. That is the big takeaway in this successtory I think.
