    Ultimately the goal here is to use a complimentary color (opposite the wheel) of the wood's tint, which will neutralize the natural tint. Redder woods, a greenish stain. Yellow, more blue purple, etc.

    You really need to try the Rubio Pre-color intense black. I did that and then coated it with Rubio Charcoal. One coat of each and the wood is as black as night.

    Not to be "that guy", but India ink is super black without having to use the blue or multiple coats. Just saturate the wood, let it dry, and it's jet black.

    Hi. I am new to your channel and enjoy your videos. I have been doing woodworking for about 15 years now. For a quicker way to get a true black stain with one simple coat I use General Finishes water based black stain. It is true black and only takes one coat. I have tried many different kinds of stains and this one by far is the best.

    The blue underneath looks cool, but definitely not black. I've heard of people using India ink to dye wood. I'm pretty sure the new stain is pronounced "ja-kuh-bee-uhn. I say Jacob-eeun, Like Ian Fleming. Either way there's no beans!
    Give in to the dark side and try a distressed painted finish. It is easy and any imperfections in the wood just add to the character.

      I have not worked with epoxy before, but I'm pretty sure that would be noticeable. Maybe someone with experience will comment for you.

    Why not use Saman 108 Black as the first coat?

    Definitely saw the blue in the sample pieces but when it was on the bench I couldn't see any blue coming through.

      Yup i've used black India Ink on my diy speaker cabinets. Works really well. You just need 1-2 coats for a really nice true black finish with zero grain showing through unlike wood stains and as its alcohol based it doesn't raise the grain as much as water based stains do. A couple of coats of satin water based poly on top and your done.

    Just burn the surface and put lineoil on it.

    This is hooey. I guess it's great if you want a bluish-black finish.

    Hi Ronnie. I haven’t had a chance to watch all of your vids yet. Do you use a sanding sealer to avoid the blotchiness on your pieces?

    • @RonniesWorkshop
      @RonniesWorkshop  Рік тому

      I usually don't as most of what I build and sell is under the "rustic" type so I am not that concerned with getting a uniform finish. I don't discourage using a pre-stain if that's the look you're going for.
