  • See how easy it is to install a shutoff valve so you can easily access the pump filter. Works with Bestway, Coleman, Intex, and other above-ground pools.
    Here's the valve I bought on Amazon: amzn.to/3Icr4aa (paid link)

    Thank you so much! This is a game changer for me. I am short and every time I need to pull the screens and insert the plugs to clean the filter, I have to stand on a stool. I struggled to get it on the fitting too, but my son strong armed the new one onto the fitting like nothing. Now the only time I will need to stand on the stool is to set it up for vacuuming. :)

      You're welcome! This year I upgraded to a sand filter and pump for $200. No longer have to take out a filter and spray it off each day. The only cleaning of the filter involves turning a handle, pressing an on/off button for dirty water to blow out, then turning the handle again.

    I ordered from Amazon, received in 2 days, yesterday; so, tomorrow my grandson and I will put on. So excited, because my approach to changing filter is, now will become was, after turning off pump, raise up pump onto a tv dinner table to keep water flow at bay 0:38 ; that is probably why those hoses began to develop splits here and there, which i wrapped flex tape around. Anyway, bought a new, flowclear transparent pump, exact same one, in order to replace hoses, which i couldn't find anywhere, so now have new pump, etc. Glad i came across your video, on which I originally commented when learning about this valve. .p.s. I also tied up hoses for support. 🤽‍♀️🎉

      Agreed, the pump and filter are a pain. This year I spent $200 and upgraded to a samd filter. No more paper filter to rinse out, and the pump works 5x better. Well worth it.

    I just ordered this part, the chin rest and shoulder support for my violin, and subscribed to Amazon prime because of this video!!! I was actually thinking I'd have to manufacture my own valve for this! Thank you! Now I'm going to look up filter cleaning tools!!!! Perhaps there's an automated machine for complete cleaning! But this valve will allow me to swap a dirty filter with a clean one and set the filter pump going again in less than two minutes!!!!
    Gonna check out your other videos! I'm a tinkerer and inventor (Too bad patents are so expensive!) so I think your content might help me out a bit! You're a huge boon to me, thanks again!

    How do you heat your pool? I purchased the same one and watched your videos to help set it up. Ours is a little chilly. We put on the cover that came with it so hopefully that helps in a day or two.

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  Рік тому

      It's warm where we live so the pool gets warm and stays warm all summer. However, the black pool cover will definitely help warm it up if it's on during a sunny day (or two). The sun heats up the cover which immediately transfers that heat to the pool water.
      It's also worth putting the cover on at night to limit the evaporation and heat loss during the cool evening hours. That should make a difference.
      In previous years at another house I'd purchased a cover that was essentially heavy-duty bubble wrap. It worked really well at absorbing sunlight and heating up the water during the day, and was pretty easy to put on the water at night. And because it had bubbles in it, it floated easily on the top. I think it was about $100 for a large roll of it which would easily cover 2-3 of these pools. May not be worth buying it since your pool came with a cover but something to consider if you get tired of this cover.

    I would like to try and get one of those shut off valves. You said eBay. What do I search for how do I know I'll get the right one?

    How did you stop water from coming out of the outlet side

      My pool came with a valve that can be shut off right where it attaches to the pool. It's the inlets that didn't have a valve.

    We bought one like you recommended but my husband couldn't get it on the hose. He was afraid he would split the house. What did you use to lubricate the fittings?

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  10 місяців тому

      I used a helper (teenager) but you can put a few drops of dish soap in a little bit of water and use that as a lubricant. It's still hard to install but it'll work. Also, I wasn't able to get the valve completely flush with the hose end but got it close. Then I tightened the nut by hand to secure it but be careful not to overtighten it because the plastic nut can crack.

    My plunger valve is ones that go on to pool they have good orings but the knobs leak what can I do, or do they eak of not turned all the way one way off or in like in middle. I got to wondering if I should put back on and make sure I turn all way off or on and see

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  11 місяців тому +1

      Yours leak at the knobs? Mine don't leak and they shouldn't leak at the knobs regardless if they're off, on, or in-between.

      @@FixEverythingYourself ok I thought I'd ask before going thru the hassle of undoing hoses and all just to put them back on making sure to try having turned all way open then trying on closed. Idk what I can do about that.

    What did you use for lube. I can’t get it in.

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  Рік тому +1

      I didn't use any lube but it was tough to get on. You could try a silicone-based lubricant or, if you don't have any, put a few drops of dish soap in a cup of water and use that soapy mixture as lubricant. That might work.

      Either unplug the pump or push the button (the red one, I think) on the plug.
