Landscape architect Joel Loblaw is back with another swoon-worthy backyard makeover! Joel worked with designer Cynthia Ferguson to create a covetable outdoor oasis in the heart of the city with a sunken lounge area and dining room and spa-like pool. See how he complimented the architecture of the house with a mix of stone, steel, wood and lush plantings. You'll love the arbor structure with large woven shades for added style and sun protection. Plus, Joel shares his tips for choosing the right low-maintenance and winter-hardy plants.

Absolutely LOVE that he shared the names of the plants! Great video.
I love how down to earth and real this guy is! Too many designers talk in snooty, pretentious terms to artificially elevate themselves... oftentimes about designs that aren't even worth writing home about. His work has depth, dimension and elegant/understated visual interest, and you can tell he's got genuine enthusiasm about what he does. Very cool.
And . . . I think that your statement wins observation of the year award. Truth be told, so many artists express themselves PRECISELY the way you described. Its as if they are using their craft and skills more as a weapon than a means of sharing a thought or an idea which should be a means to bring people together.
Bravo to u for saying what so many others have thought. And his design is exquisite!
That’s because there is a huge difference between an interior designer and an exterior landscape designer! Two different animals.
@@Person-mh6xq and many people don’t even know what interior designers do. Most interior designs are NOT snooty.
I love his enthusiasm!
The cushion falling over at 2:45 is my favorite moment 😂
This was very informative about what to consider in landscape design. And, I love this guy’s personality!
Oh Joeli’s a riot!! You should see his meetings!! We had a ball!!
Wow small lot, I have all the same in my back yard that is 3x larger. Looks beautiful, zen outdoor space ! My plants are roses and tons of pots, flowers that grow up my structure. I love candles and solar lights on my fence and my cabana. Plus 2 patio heaters with flame up the middle. I love lights everywhere.
Sounds like heaven. Good for you in creating your own private oasis!
Love the pool 🏊🏽♀️ great integration - really good solutions for the drop offs 👏🏾
Great job!
The house, pool and outdoor area is beautifully integrated!♥️
Wow! This one is stunning! It has so many interesting places to look at and play in!
Beautiful! Does not feel like a backyard in the city.
It is a true escape in the city!!
Loved this video. It was actually quite informative
Joel really knows his “stuff”!
Really love the outdoor patio setup absolutely beautiful
Joel from Dirty Business! What a legend.
One word "Beautiful"
Awesome combination of material, colour, and texture.
best back yard that I've ever seen! love the pool and sunken patio so much! but the aesthetic is spot on!
Beautiful! The Japanese maple and peeling maple will be beautiful in the wintertime
It is gorgeous!!
Gorgeous
I love this guy! :)
Great garden and great, informative video.
I love that modern colors that he uses
It is fantastic isn’t it?!! We were thrilled with how it all turned out!
Just too beautiful
Looks fantastic 👍
Love this backyard ❤️
Isn’t it great! So much packed into our client’s shallow backyard!
I wish you would make over my multi leveled garden Joel, its a shame you don't work in the 🇬🇧
This feels more like midtown than DT, St. Clair, Summerhill maybe.
I'm in love with this channel 😍😍😍😍
Me toooooo❤️❤️❤️
This is beautiful!
Charismatic and joyful designer🤩 excellent
Love every thing about it
Love it!!
😊 Wonderful execution which should have left the client delighted 🥂
The only change I would have made is to see how we could reduce some of the visual bulk of the hardscape by perhaps slimming down posts, slats and beams😌 IMHO
Great Job.. 👍👍👍
❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful! Which paint color was used on the dark charcoal grey / black fence?
It is Black Stallion by Benjamin Moore 🖤
He’s funny... for a landscape architect 😂... seems like a nice person to work with
Great video.
Stunning space
Isn’t it fabulous?!
You pulled off
Lovely retreat.
It's beautiful, but I would want the dining area to be close to the kitchen with an unobstructed path. Is it?
What a stunning backyard retreat!
Would love to know the dimensions of this pool and the patio material used.
What kind of trees are those columnar trees?
They are Hornbeams and look magnificent “up lit” at night ❤️
Wow💕
What kind of patio paver/stone material was used?
I believe it was Indian limestone

The owner love this garden, however, that is not such thing as "no maintenance garden". Those leaves will fall in the pool and patio. Also, the location is very windy. Again, the client is happy with this design that's important.
Happiness family toosirji
Good luck keeping that clean. It already looks a bit rough. The wood around the dining area looks like it’s starting to absorb water. A lot of trees and just bits around a pool is never a good idea. That maple tree near a pool, really??? Seriously?
It just looks unkept and unloved after just one year.
I think the wood you are talking about is patina but i could be wrong.
having a swimming pool that you can only use for 5 months of the year is not practical
hmm not a big fan of this design...
The corner at the end of the stairs of the swimmingpool looks dangerous to me.
The big chandelaire is way too big and are off center of the table
Lots of sitting space for a lot of people but not enough space for that people to move arround without hitting sofa, chair, stairs, random corner...
The tree that "exfoliate" his branches... thats crap you wil have to clean when it fall at the floor or at the swimming pool...
And the glass... well good luch keepping it clean
We have actually found the space beautifully flexible for small intimate groups or larger gatherings. The glass hasn’t needed to be cleaned more than the windows on the house surprisingly!
@@cynthiafergusondesigns thats awesome! It was a personal opinion, obviously the ones that have to love the design are the owners.
I've missed his show. I wish they would bring Dirty Business back or something similar.
What show was this? I'm in the States. Thanks😅
@@robyndismon394 Its available on the youtube channel, Abode. They have a new video out today ua-cam.com/video/6gxCTK2jp68/v-deo.html
