I had to replace my old nest doorbell with new Gen2 wired. Installed ok and working but the biggest negative is the Gen 2 camera isn’t supported or viewable from the Nest Aware app. So I have to monitor two apps now, the Nest app with my nest aware plus subscription for my 3 nest outdoor cameras, and I have to use the google home app for the new gen 2 doorbell. Disappointing, much less convenient.
Great Video, Asher! Would you make a video showing footage from both doorbells in the different light conditions? Would be nice to see if the quality of the wired is better.
He never responded. I think the video is wrong, I think if you wire up the battery model, it will do 24/7. It will act like a wired model and will have battery backup for events only. But I haven't tested it.
Asher, very good info from your video. I have a question. Why would the battery and the wired models be different in size? Functionality wise, their software works slightly differently but software does not take up space. Then the major difference I can think of would be the battery size... the battery version probably has a much bigger battery inside. Maybe you can do a follow up comparison video and let us know. The reason I am interested is, since both the battery version and the wired version can be wired, and the wired version (probably) stops working (within hours?) when there is a power outage. The battery version can continue to work (for many days or weeks?) not affected by power outage. Since we can wire the battery version just like wiring the wired version, then we don't have to take out the doorbell from the mounting bracket to take it inside the house to charge it overnight so regularly, then wouldn't getter a battery version but wire it up (if the house is already wired for doorbell) ... make the most sense? The battery version is also a little bit cheaper too that I thought I saw in some stores. Please do a follow up video on this and notify us. Thank you.
Yes the battery version does have a bigger battery other than that the features are the same, personally I don’t have power issues but from a security perspective and with the new smart home matter protocol which wouldn’t require an internet connection I would think having a doorbell with a battery would probably be a good idea.
Bought this one because the older version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQ had was really choppy and would disconnect from the wifi ALOT, was not catching everything and every week j had to charge it. So far the picture quality on this one is exceptional. I also bought a solar panel with it so I will see how this all turns out.
Nice video. Is 24x7 recording free? If I'm not planning to get nest aware subscription, is there any difference between the two? I'm thinking to wire battery model and the battery during power outage looks like a better option.
You’ll need the Nest app. Its 24x7 in the sense that it activities and records when motion/activity is detected. For power outage situation the battery would be the best route in my opinion.
Hi Asher! Great video! The Wired doorbell with no subscription can record up to 3 hours. Question for you. Google wired doorbell will record 3 hours continuously or 3 hours of detected events? For example, If I am sleeping and I receive a package at 1:00am, then someone came and steel my package at 2:00 am, when I wake up at 6:00 am will the footage be overwritten? because 4 hours has been past and the doorbell only records the last 3 hours? Or since I set event detection the doorbell will have for example 2 videos of 30 seconds watch? (delivery guy and the thief steeling). Thank you very much!
That’s actually a pretty good question, I wonder if there is a blind spot time frame. I wouldn’t think so but I’m not sure I haven’t seen a gap. I’ve only seen the doorbell record events so 3 hours of events might be 3 hours which could possibly be equivalent to 1 month, I’m not sure on that question. I googled it and it said on wired you get 10 days of 24/7 recorded video history and 60 days of 24/7 video event history. Call Google help to be sure.
I haven’t tried it yet but if power is still being provided to the device it would work , the real question is would the Wi-Fi being off affect it or not.
No the battery one is OG you guys I'd like to live near a North circuit's pretty cold this packages No every 2 months I've charged the battery in the Winter
The quality of your videos keep getting better and better! Wow those macroshots are awesome!
Thanks 😊
@@tech-asher do you feel ADT is good to use or vivint. I’m trying to figure out who to go with?

Yes I was a big fan of the nest app too however I’ve heard they’re moving everything to Google Home app.
Good Comparison, we have a battery one that is wired. We are having lots of problems with the battery not charging
Battery is not charged when hanging on the door. It’s only charged when you take it down and plug. Inconvenience

A comparison like this is pointless without sample footage..
If you wire the battery one in. Does it show 24/7 live/recorded video? Or is it only the wired one that does 24/7 recorded full history.

Does the battery model still ring the old bell?
You have to use a new chime that comes with the doorbell

24hrs recording is not free

If I use the battery one but wired to the wall and the is a powercut, will the battery on the doorbell start working ? As backup v
?

is 24/7 possibly with nest aware with battery model and are notifications really slower wired compared to the wired model?
Great review
Do you have a wired Nest Hello/2nd Generation or a battery doorbell, if so which one was your choice and what's the feature you love/hate the most ?
Great, thank you ❤
Was there to be some comparison video of the difference in the door bells ?
I kept it top level. For comparison I did look at the video feeds, it was hard for me to tell the difference between both feeds.
So wiered is better because u don't need do charge it right?
Wired definitely has more pros the cons, the only reason I could think of having a battery is if you have more power outages than normal.
Battery can also be wired so you don't need to charge.
I have bought the wired version for 24/7 recording. But it's also 3 hours recording like the battery version. How can I fix it.
2nd generation can’t use nest app :( I will still keep my 1st generation.
Yes that’s unfortunate, I loved the nest app

So after 3 hrs you can no longer see what has happened? What if you’re asleep in the night and wake up? Is all of the footage gone?
Still does not give help for app use. SUCKS
