i was so happy to find out that frame generation wasn't a gimmick. it's wild to play msfs at max settings at over 100 fps. this is a genre where 30 fps is seen as a solid level of performance
@@Q8Pilot Has the blurry display issue been fixed when using DLSS? I've been running DLSS frame generation ON but keeping my AA set to TAA.. still getting the huge perf boost from the frame generation, but w/ sharper textures. And really haven't noticed the additional latency that's a result of frame generation.. flight controls feel just as good, if not better.
@@geonauto I know. Wasn’t talking about flight dynamics at all lol. The frame generation setting and DLSS are two different settings. Frame generation adds quite a bit of input latency because the frames being generated are artificial. My point was that it’s not nearly as noticeable in the sim as it is in a game like cyberpunk 2077 which also has DLSS 3.0 and frame generation.
i recently upgraded from 3080ti to 4080 with i9 13900k and ddr5 32 gb, now the sim feels so smooth! . i didnt need to upgrade because i ran every game so well but the sim was struggle with my 11700k back then . now its glorious !!!!!
Hi Q8Pilot, I found that the best results is to use TAA with Frame Generation On. You need to make sure in game vsync is off but do use Vsync On in the Nvidia control panel as this fixes the screen tearing caused by frame generation. With same set up 13900K and 4090, Im getting 100+ fps with Ultra settings at 4K and TLOD at 400 with Fenix A320. It’s amazing. Try it out!

Well I got my ROG STRIX 4090 Yesterday after a lot of Patience trying to secure one and it turns out it does perform as well as you’ve advertised, felt sick in the Stomach paying what I did but it provides 100FPS+ (80-90 in Cockpit) whilst going over New York at Low Level with the PMDG DC-6 With all the settings on 4K Ultra and the LOD Slider on 325, its just incredible, There is Artifacting on the Tail and Props if you pan the Camera too fast, needs to be moved quite slow to make it not appear (looks like ghosting) Light Poles at the Airports do the exact same thing quite bad if you pan to Quickly, And in the cockpit the left and right Pillars are effected by the same effect, also whilst sat at JFK in the DC-6 The Frame Rate was about 80, if you pan up to look at the roof instruments the FPS Shoots up to 120-130, when you pan back down there’s a lag spike during the Transition back to 80FPS, Airports like KASE are not effected as it’s less Performance Heavy and just runs a steady Frame Rate But....we cant have it all so these little things will just have to be overlooked I Personally Have Frame Gen switched on and Anti Aliasing on TAA With the Slider Below it at about 140, That makes it look Extremely Clear and Sharp, Loving the Card, wouldn’t be to impressed if Games Like RDR2 and MSFS Didn’t have DLSS as at 4K Ultra it still doesn’t perform all that Great given the Price point being $4,000 AUD For the ROG STRIX but regardless I’m loving the Card and it’s main purpose was for MSFS, It’s Definitely altered the Experience Thanks for the Video
Hi i have the same rig as yours btw. Lately i got some badly stutters and the game wasnt playable anymore with my 4090. It even worked better with my 3090😮 but since i followed your video and did all the steps, man now it runs like butter sometimes a stutter. But this is crazy! Thanks a lot bro!!!! P
Great video and I’m having a new rig built by Micro Center and it was the quickest way to secure the RTX 4090. Are you still using Windows 10 or 11? I’ve seen some post on FB where simmers were getting a lot of studders when using the Intel 12 or 13 generation CPU’s with Windows 10 and the 4090. Something to do with P-Cores and E-Cores getting better utilization when running MSFS with Windows 11 installed.

i am too old for upgrades, but at 3:54 this is true, that ground objects that do not exist cannot cast shadows that would slow down the frame 4:10 in an advanced model, there are shadows in the cockpit, i thinkd it was the pmdg
Great video! Couple of questions, what framerate monitor are you using here? And, how are you keeping your processor temp below mostly 80C-90C at the most? Is it the Corsair alone? Doing this, mine's at like 92C+! I'm using a liquid cooler on mine... (I have both the i9-13900K and RTX 4090)
Thanks for watching. I use FPSMonitor. My CPU never exceeds 60 during game play. It can spike to 70 or 80 for a second but it then drops. I am using a liquid cooler as well but I also have a very large case with lots of fans to keep cool air flowing in.

In your Nvidia control panel I noticed you were not using " Resizable Bar" ! This is a big benefit in MSFS where performance is concerned. I suggest you look at "SimHanger" for how and why !
I think that tlod is very high even for 13900k, are you cpu or gpu limited with this settings? Should be cpu. But your fps barely is lower than 60 so enjoy your flights.:)

Hmmm, I'm not getting 80 FPS at Heathrow, I've got a 4090, i9 13900k and 32GB DDR5 Ram using the same settings in the 737 and get low 60's.....Do you have any hidden settings turned down or off ? Also my GPU Utilization sits in the 40's when sat still in the Cockpit EDIT: I may have found the Reason, Adjusting the Weather to look like yours put the FPS into the 70's, also reducing the traffic settings got it a bit higher, Zeroing the Traffic instantly brings the FPS identical to yours at 80 when Parked and up into the 90's just after Taking off

Enable HAGS and then Frame Interpolation option should appear in the MSFS settings. This gives you the option of TAA with Frame Interpolation (Quality DLSS is only rendering at 1440p and upscaling so not as sharp). Don't know why you aren't seeing this.
Thanks - this is proof that you can solve almost any problem if you throw enough money at it. Are you using any commercial AI Traffic products with this - especially at the big airports? I'm very interested in the impact of a lot of AI Traffic, since that is a big part of the immersion for me.
Q8, are you still on DX12 in MSFS? Seems that the bloom option on causes some white screen flashing on DX12, it does not happen when the bloom is turned off though. Any recommendations?
I play on ultra with frame generation and I have a 4090 with a 14900kf and 64 gb of ddr5. I only get about 50 fps for some reason with the same settings as you. I don’t think it’s a problem with my pc as I ran many tests on it and they all passed. It could be the terrible optimization of the game. I’m on a 1440p display that’s 27 inches.
My brother bought a new PC Intel 13700/Z790 with fast RAM/NVMe storage but still had an old GTX 1070 GPU, he was waiting for a RTX 4070 but eventually bought a RTX 3070 Ti. Anyway performance of MSFS on his 1080p monitor with the GTX 1070 was incredible, completely smooth with high settings. The sim is totally CPU limied and can run incredible well with a modest GPU.
3:06 dlss is not for framerate. It just reduces power consumption which is a good thing given the high tdp of these cards and the soaring cost of electricity

The 13900 requires the Z790 chipset for optimal performance. You will get 25% less performance with 139 on z690. They are almost the same but 13900k has slightly bigger L3 cache and has faster OC speed. In gaming, there is very little difference in performance.
I have the same setup with 2k resolution and I stutter so much and I can’t figure out why but I see some people setup and they never stutter even at big airports
probably i need to move terrain precache to ~300 from 400 too and change may be required i mean change fslt settings. because la with all addons(burbank2, inib lax, venice, santa monica) i have slideshow literally lol... i had problem at old pc too, but thought this one can handle everything hahaha edit p.s. with fslt was used msfs traffic lol...

@@Q8Pilot Any tips for CPU temps? I was getting spikes up to 90-99C with my new 13900k / 4090 build (averaged 60s-80s with those high spikes). Air cooled but still seems pretty high for in sim... I've turned off multi-core enhancement in bios and set my fan curves higher but still too high for my liking... Did you need to do any undervolting or anything or are you pretty much using default configs?
@@Q8Pilot I have tried with it both on and on. I get a bit better performance running dx11 for some reason. In devmode it says main thread limited when running dx12 but when I'm in 11 it's more GPU limited. edit: Just looked and it's FSLTL that's killing my FPS. I'm losing a good 20 or so.
I did a bit more testing and I average low 60s even in cruise. With a 4090 and 5800x3d that still seems awfully low. Still showing main thread limited. Dx12 and frame generation is on. Lod turned down to 200 and object at 100. Really at a loss here. I’m wondering if it’s a SU11 issue. A lot of people complaining about performance in the latest update on the forums.
ok - here is my question as an absolute non-tekky: I have an RTX4090 / i9 13900 system running Oculus 2 (72HZ, resolution 3616 x 1840) . Re graphics settings I am running the following settings: TAA, Render Scaling 100, reprojection off, world scale 100, Nvidia latency ON, Global Rendering Quality set to Ultra. When I put the MSFS developer FPS counter I am getting drops into the 30s/40s with a little stuttering ie not completely smooth but mostly around 60FPS. When it dips down, the top part of the counter goes red and says "limited by Thread" - what can I do? I havent touched any of the GEForce settings or Oculus debug stuff yet - this Flight Sim stuff is definitely a dark art!! Would love some assistance! thanks!

I’m having a hard time with a similar hardware. I can go past 60 fps with ultra preset. MSI Gaming Trio 4090, i9 12900K, 64 DDR5 5200, 2TB NVME, I need to lower my LOD and terrain to 100, than I can go nearby 90 fps on Fenix. I know that you have a 13900K but I believe the difference shouldn’t be that big, right? Besides I’m running on 2K! If I push the slide all over to the right on rendering, my FPS is the same, just the gpu load goes to 99%. It sits around 50% on 2K and lower fps. Any help, please?

In MSFS 2020 when I try to pop out the window panel instrument the game freeze and no further action is possible. Can you help me? My understanding is the FPS won't exceed the refresh rate of your monitor, so if your monitor is only 60Hz that is what your FPS will be with our without DLSS3? Most new monitors are 120 or more so shouldn't be a problem but some 60Hz are still around?

That's very hot. I suspect your cooler is not sufficient or the case is too small without sufficient airflow. Did you apply thermal paste before mounting the cooler?
@Q8Pilot I don't know because this is pre-built by Asus Company. My i9 13900KF was broken at April 20. They repair a new CPU for me and I have try to play MSFS FBW A320 again. The CPU temperature always at 90-100. Is it normal temperature with i9 CPU? Sorry for my bad English.

It is not much different. The CPU/GPU combo is amazing.
You will lose some fps but it will handle it
i can confirm that the it takes a heavy toll on fps with pmdg planes fsltl and payware airports , 75 fps some times drops down to even 45 fps
I have done the tests with FSLTL. EBBR, EGLL, and KLAX with 100 IFR flight, all other settings default FSLTL. Result, 70+ FPS.
I just bought a 4080 and….wow…. TAA with Frame Generation is absolutely awesome!

I don't have Xbox but from the footage I have seen you should have similar graphics.

When this video was made, my machine didn't support it. I have it now on my RTX 4090 enabled.
yeah check your VRAM sensor with all those insane settings @ an addon airport with the pmdg....

RAM is not running at full speed no. It was unstable so I turned xmp off.

ShadowPlay from Nvidia does not affect the performance at all. It is very lightweight and does the job well.

Enable HAGS and then Frame Interpolation option should appear in the MSFS settings. This gives you the option of TAA with Frame Interpolation (Quality DLSS is only rendering at 1440p and upscaling so not as sharp). Don't know why you aren't seeing this.

Thanks - this is proof that you can solve almost any problem if you throw enough money at it. Are you using any commercial AI Traffic products with this - especially at the big airports? I'm very interested in the impact of a lot of AI Traffic, since that is a big part of the immersion for me.
I tested all 3 airports with FSLTL. Slight drop in FPS ...maintained 70-90 FPS is most situations.

Yes I on DX12 and don't have this issue.

I play on ultra with frame generation and I have a 4090 with a 14900kf and 64 gb of ddr5. I only get about 50 fps for some reason with the same settings as you. I don’t think it’s a problem with my pc as I ran many tests on it and they all passed. It could be the terrible optimization of the game. I’m on a 1440p display that’s 27 inches.

It would be very difficult for me to guess the FPS, but it should be ok.
It would be nice to test the 4090 with your old CPU to see how much of the improvement can be attributed to the new GPU and CPU separately.
There is definitely that, unfortunately, I sold my old PC.
My brother bought a new PC Intel 13700/Z790 with fast RAM/NVMe storage but still had an old GTX 1070 GPU, he was waiting for a RTX 4070 but eventually bought a RTX 3070 Ti. Anyway performance of MSFS on his 1080p monitor with the GTX 1070 was incredible, completely smooth with high settings. The sim is totally CPU limied and can run incredible well with a modest GPU.

3:06 dlss is not for framerate. It just reduces power consumption which is a good thing given the high tdp of these cards and the soaring cost of electricity

I have a 13900k and 4090 and microsoft flight sim runs like crap for me it only uses like 30 % of my gpu and gets me like 30 - 50 fps

We started with TAA, we the PMDG, we switched to DLSS3 and then back to TAA with the FENIX after departure.
The FPS displayed, does that include what Frame Generation is boosting? Or is that FPS without the enhancement of Frame Generation?

The 13900 requires the Z790 chipset for optimal performance. You will get 25% less performance with 139 on z690. They are almost the same but 13900k has slightly bigger L3 cache and has faster OC speed. In gaming, there is very little difference in performance.

probably i need to move terrain precache to ~300 from 400 too and change may be required i mean change fslt settings. because la with all addons(burbank2, inib lax, venice, santa monica) i have slideshow literally lol... i had problem at old pc too, but thought this one can handle everything hahaha

@@Q8Pilot Any tips for CPU temps? I was getting spikes up to 90-99C with my new 13900k / 4090 build (averaged 60s-80s with those high spikes). Air cooled but still seems pretty high for in sim... I've turned off multi-core enhancement in bios and set my fan curves higher but still too high for my liking... Did you need to do any undervolting or anything or are you pretty much using default configs?
What happens when u are not overclocking gpu, how significant is the fps drop
Honestly it does not affect FPS that much.
Impressive but a very expensive video card. But, hey, if you use and enjoy it, then it's worth the money.

How are you getting such high FPS? I use similar settings with a 5800x3d and 4090 and struggle with 25FPS at some airports in the PMDG.

@@Q8Pilot I have tried with it both on and on. I get a bit better performance running dx11 for some reason. In devmode it says main thread limited when running dx12 but when I'm in 11 it's more GPU limited.
edit: Just looked and it's FSLTL that's killing my FPS. I'm losing a good 20 or so.
@Nelson Beazley for frame generation you have to be in DX12 and you must have Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduling turned on
@@Q8Pilot My performance is better with frame generation but it also stutters a bit since vsync isn't working with it.
I did a bit more testing and I average low 60s even in cruise. With a 4090 and 5800x3d that still seems awfully low. Still showing main thread limited. Dx12 and frame generation is on. Lod turned down to 200 and object at 100. Really at a loss here. I’m wondering if it’s a SU11 issue. A lot of people complaining about performance in the latest update on the forums.

ok - here is my question as an absolute non-tekky: I have an RTX4090 / i9 13900 system running Oculus 2 (72HZ, resolution 3616 x 1840) . Re graphics settings I am running the following settings: TAA, Render Scaling 100, reprojection off, world scale 100, Nvidia latency ON, Global Rendering Quality set to Ultra. When I put the MSFS developer FPS counter I am getting drops into the 30s/40s with a little stuttering ie not completely smooth but mostly around 60FPS. When it dips down, the top part of the counter goes red and says "limited by Thread" - what can I do? I havent touched any of the GEForce settings or Oculus debug stuff yet - this Flight Sim stuff is definitely a dark art!! Would love some assistance! thanks!
The developer mode FPS counter will not show your FPS correctly if you have frame generation on. Do you have then on or off?

None whatsoever. The Zotac card does not have this problem to the best of my knowledge.
NVIDIA advice is to ensure the connector is correctly set into the socket. You need to hear a faint click when attaching the cable connector.

I’m having a hard time with a similar hardware. I can go past 60 fps with ultra preset. MSI Gaming Trio 4090, i9 12900K, 64 DDR5 5200, 2TB NVME, I need to lower my LOD and terrain to 100, than I can go nearby 90 fps on Fenix. I know that you have a 13900K but I believe the difference shouldn’t be that big, right? Besides I’m running on 2K! If I push the slide all over to the right on rendering, my FPS is the same, just the gpu load goes to 99%. It sits around 50% on 2K and lower fps. Any help, please?
Was it resolved? I am easily getting 100fps with a 5800x3d 4070 on a 2k ultrawide monitor both FENIX and PMDG.

The best tool to measure all the vitals is FPSMonitor. I have been using it for over 3 years now.

My understanding is the FPS won't exceed the refresh rate of your monitor, so if your monitor is only 60Hz that is what your FPS will be with our without DLSS3? Most new monitors are 120 or more so shouldn't be a problem but some 60Hz are still around?
DLSS3 has nothing to do with frame generation. You are right though about refresh rate limit for frame generation.

That's very hot. I suspect your cooler is not sufficient or the case is too small without sufficient airflow. Did you apply thermal paste before mounting the cooler?
@Q8Pilot I don't know because this is pre-built by Asus Company. My i9 13900KF was broken at April 20. They repair a new CPU for me and I have try to play MSFS FBW A320 again. The CPU temperature always at 90-100. Is it normal temperature with i9 CPU? Sorry for my bad English.
