This couldn't of been a better video in showing how to repair a joystick 🕹️. I've never done anything like this but I ordered a kit and this was the 3 video I seen when I was looking and it was the first one I clicked on and it helped me get the job done so thank you for your video it really help!! Being a mom this was the cheapest way of fixing or the controller bc I sure couldn't buy a new one right now so thanks again!!
Knowing I helped someone from having to buy new controllers makes it all worth it! That plus now you are empowered to fix your own stuff rather than being stuck in the cycle of trash and rebuy that companies want!
I found a way to simplify the repair a bit: remove this other handle part that covers the ribbon cable. It's very easy to do when you realize that there are 4, not 3, screws under the battery bay sticker. The one you missed is at the end(bottom) of the sticker; you have to peal it almost all the way to see it. Once you have done that, you can fairly easily separate two handle parts, and then you can unplug and then plug ribbon cable from totally exposed socket. Anyway thanks for your detailed tutorial, it helped me a lot!
I just found it , first time I 'm doing this thanks but I have taken laptops apart a few years ago and my Nexus 6P phone to replace the battery that lasted 1 year before it went hey wire and lost one it's 8 cores in the processor resulting in a bootup of the phone but would loop until the battery died it was a great phone with a bad defect, it's funny my 4year old Oculus Rift CV1 controllers still have no issues but this Quest 2 controllers looks like it's designed to fail.
i fixed mine, but i don't recommend for newbies to do it by themselves. I am a newbie, but i risked because there is no one in my city to do it for me. btw i have the tools to do it. But thank you bro, you helped me a lot.
Very helpful video, I removed the other part of the handle shell and that made it much easier to dis/connect the zif cable, just peel off the sticker in the battery compartment and remove the four screws. Like all of this it is a bit of fiddle to unclip but do.able. Got this changed over and gave to son, who then realised he had given me the wrong one ... all good practice/perks of being a dad.
I was watching the part where you switched the Joystick, and I rewatched the ZIf connector on the joystick part multiple times.. lol... I just fixed it, and locked it in myself.. Then continued.. and then watched the part at 27:14 where you realized you forgot to connect it.. lol. I was so confused for a second. Anybody else that notices this part.. I hope you see this comment. Other than that, great tutorial. Thank you for making this.
You'd think with all the money Zuck puts into Meta, he'd make it so the controllers were incapable of Drift and ergo null this WHOLE process. I know many companies purposely make their products prone to faults (so you'll buy replacements) but conversely, it shows lack of value for money and would turn off customers (both pre existing and potential). (((Yes, MY Meta Quest 2 has stick drift, in both controllers no less and I am VERY salty about it)))
It seems ALL modern pot based joystick controllers are significantly less robust than even most of my older controllers that also have carbon pots. Almost like they are made cheaper to intentionally drastically reduce their lifespan.
Yep, same reason why all computer mice still use electric microswitches, instead of capacitive or piezo or hall effect or inductive, you know EVERY OTHER TECH THAT IS 100 TIMES MORE ROBUST but that would cost a few extra cents and make them not break right after warranty expires! I am extra pissed about this cause I worked with the good stuff (industrial/medical and professional equipment in general) and I know how durable and reliable thing can be for just a few extra dimes!
I just needed to take off the cover that covers the buttons and stuff because my joystick flew out so i just repaired something for the first time Thanks Alot hope you do more repairs!
Successful repair. Thank you for your step by step. A few other vids skipped a few stages.... like right where you are having a nightmare of a time pulling the two parts of the bottom apart. That was the worst part of the onion. You have my sub!
I had one repair shop quote $115 to fix my controller. I spent $18 dollars, got a kit with four joysticks. Fixed it myself. First time fixing any electronic device, and I can say it's not too difficult.
I fixed mine just by removing the top shield and spraying light amounts of plastic safe contact cleaner down the sides of the joy stick shaft and working it around - (complete replacement not required) - good to know the process thought - thanks for posting
Thanks so much, I followed another video and didn't work, my hub start to search a original new one. So a find your video, started all again remove and remake all process. And it worked 💪 🙌🥰. Thanks
well if you have the new logo it's a lot harder i got to the point of the separate the top from bottom but it will not separate no matter what i tried to do and there are smaller screws added that you will need a size 4 for I'm going to keep trying but for right now i cant get it off ( nvm i missed a screw :D )
😢I did all this the first time, pain in the ass. Second time I used WD-40. Worked like a charm. Just remove the faceplate and pull off the joystick knob. Small squirt into the stick base and move it around, pressing it as well.
Pulled the trigger plate off when it came with force it slipped out of my hand and literally threw the screws across my dining room💀🤣 threw the whole remote away 4 minutes ago🤣
I repaired my controllers but i can only move in three directions, whats the problem? Please let me know, using all the same stuff and tried switching them between controllers.
The ring came undone while trying to open the handle. Snapping the IR wire instantly. I wish I had left the screws to the ring attached before attempting the rest -_-
I've taken mine apart and put it back together twice but can't figure out how to fix it because it won't connect to my oculus or even turn on what do I do?
I was playing with my Oculus like 10 minutes ago today on whatever day it is and I was playing and my controller just froze in mid-air I can move it but not where the controller is it was just in midair turning around in circles I could still use the buttons but I couldn't move my controller and it was really annoying so are we setting my Oculus and now it won't turn on and it won't wake up and nothing is working do you know what's going on?
Sounds like the os crashed. Try plugging it in to charge and doing a hard reboot by holding the power button for 30 seconds before trying to turn it on again.
What specific connector? (Tell me the timestamp in the video so I know which one) There a multiple kinds of zif connectors and how to open them slightly differs depending on the type.

I never thought there was actually stuff inside those big doughnut things!
Goofy that’s how the oculus sees the controller

I was thinking about doing that to but I didn't have anything to spray in it but I'll remember this for if it happens again so thanks for the idea!!

Def giving a like since I got it to work 😊

Thanks for the foil idea
I fixed the right controller just fine, it works as all. But the left one has no power now 😱 what do I do next?
Check and reseat the ribbons, all it takes is one not being in all the way for it not to work.
😢I did all this the first time, pain in the ass. Second time I used WD-40. Worked like a charm. Just remove the faceplate and pull off the joystick knob. Small squirt into the stick base and move it around, pressing it as well.
I'd certainly use an electronics contact cleaner but wd40 will dry out and turn gummy after awhile so I'd avoid that imo.
That's a lot of work
fixed mine, second time with WD40. Works like a charm
Followed your instructions and everything went perfectly
Pulled the trigger plate off when it came with force it slipped out of my hand and literally threw the screws across my dining room💀🤣 threw the whole remote away 4 minutes ago🤣
Big oof, my condolences
Thanks for the video. Very helpfull.
The other side of the handle piece is a pull apart
I know this video was a long time ago but can you do a video on how to fix the sos problem on the meta quest 2 controller
Sounds like a pairing issue. I'd try unpairing and repairing using the meta app.
Thx so much for fixing my controllers bro
I repaired my controllers but i can only move in three directions, whats the problem? Please let me know, using all the same stuff and tried switching them between controllers.
Double check and reseat the ribbon connections
You did great man
I feel your pain.
The ring came undone while trying to open the handle. Snapping the IR wire instantly. I wish I had left the screws to the ring attached before attempting the rest -_-
Oof sorry to hear that
I've taken mine apart and put it back together twice but can't figure out how to fix it because it won't connect to my oculus or even turn on what do I do?
Not turning on sounds like a ribbon connector isn't fully seated or is damaged.
good thing i have a brokken controller to practise on
I was playing with my Oculus like 10 minutes ago today on whatever day it is and I was playing and my controller just froze in mid-air I can move it but not where the controller is it was just in midair turning around in circles I could still use the buttons but I couldn't move my controller and it was really annoying so are we setting my Oculus and now it won't turn on and it won't wake up and nothing is working do you know what's going on?

I have a T5 driver and I got all then it but the 2 short screws for the ring of to home depot
Please comment screw driver set used
Its not that hard i have no experience an managed todo it after watching your video
Took me two hours but did it!
Congrats!
16:19 i cannot get this out i have been trying for 2 hours now i have the right tools but its not unscrewing.
The head might be stripped, iirc it was a tiny torx screw.
when it comes to the zif connecters, do i pull up the grey metal part or slide out the black ribbon?
also go into more detail on how i really dont want to break it
What specific connector? (Tell me the timestamp in the video so I know which one) There a multiple kinds of zif connectors and how to open them slightly differs depending on the type.
