old video but still spot on how the fp3 works... I got rinehart pipes and intake and the fp3, emailed V&H customer service to ask what to use, got an informative reply within 2 minutes. great product, great service.
These days we need a notebook or a smartphone to tune our bikes.. thanks for all your videos! All very helpful! Did the wire tuck following your steps! Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!! 👊🏻
Where did you get your chin spoiler ? I just had a deer hit mine and shattered it. I also don’t have $350 from Harley Davidson thank you for your time and I love your channel.
I'm hoping this tune session works out for you! I like to try to think things through first and then get help as a last resort, but I've burned myself a lot doing that. FP3 looks simple enough to use, I think that might be the way for me to go. Although, performance isn't as important to me as fuel economy seeing as how I commute on my bike.
Yeah man, just put up Session 02, and 03 incoming tomorrow, worked out! The reason I'm doing AutoTune is b/c I want better fuel economy. With the canned V&H map, performance is great, runs well. But I wanted to try out AutoTune to see if I could get better mpg's, b/c w/ their map, I'm averaging 35'ish mpg, whenever other riders reporting in are saying they average 45-50's. Pretty significant, worth trying AutoTune IMO!
Same experience here with fuel economy- 45-50mpg before Stage One download; 30-32mpg after... The last two tanks, however; 28mpg. And I noticed this morning that the crossover tube had snapped off of the front header pipe. Broken weld. So, I'm sitting here thinking "I hope warranty will cover this... The black header pipe kit from Harley is only $180... I need to learn how to weld..."
Yo blockhead, thats why I like your videos HONEST !....the channel isn't all sponsored out and full of shit. This is content that as a rider I can draw on in real life use. Keep it coming meow 👍🏻
Nope... Auto tune is kinda weird. I've performed several autotune and rode aggressively for a full tank and tried riding easy for a full tank. I ended up reverting back to can map which so far, runs the best. I'll try again in the spring.
BLOCKHEAD hell yea brother I feel you. It looks awesome on the black. Also loving this auto tune series. I'm about to start going through the whole thing myself. I have the fp3 and V02 cleaner, just trying to decide if I want a 2 into 1 exhaust or the short shots. Anyway big fan of your channel bro. Keep up the badass work.
Will the fp3 automatically setup for stock at block 1 or do I have to enter stock info at block 1 manually first, and then enter my stage 1 info manually at block 2?
I was told if I use an aftermarket air cleaner or exhaust and this tuner…my warranty will be void. So I ordered the screaming eagle product they offer but don’t like their exhaust. So won’t be upgrading that.
I don't have the pipes yet. I do have a high flow air intake installed. Do I need to tune the bike with that setup or do I wait until I install the new pipes?
I'm new to vlogging. How do you get your voice on the camera with no wind noise ? Also, can you delete the maps that you know you don't wan't? like the one that you duplicated ?
nice info...I just got my Harley street bob. I will be doing all the typical upgrades.and I'm looking at the fp3 but 1 question. why do you select a tune then do and auto tune. from what I understand the fp3 has pretty selected tunes. and auto tune is a custom tune.. so if the preloaded tunes don't work quite the way you want then you auto tune. right
Grats on the new bike! I selected a tune b/c my bike isn't stock, as it has a high flow intake and aftermarket less restrictive exhaust on it. As the stock map isn't going to match up with these, that's why I select a canned V&H tune. While using a canned V&H tune, I've found that my gas mileage is significantly lower than what it should be, averaging 30-35mpg, instead of what most people get (even with the FP3) of about 50mpg. Since my gas mileage was so low, I figured it would be worth it to try and use the Auto Tune feature so that the Fuelpak picks up my riding habits and 'learns' a tune to potentially increase my fuel economy. It's been a long process, but at least it's finally running as shown in this vid. Follow up vid coming tomorrow riding around town while auto tuning.
Hey there blockhead I enjoy all your videos just installed this fuelpak on my scooter and I need all the advice I can get thanks a lot keep on making you videos I'll keep on watching catch you later brother.
bought a set of short shots for my 883 (2019) with stock intake not sure if i need to do the retune. I've read that if you're not touching the intake it's not critical (just dont have cash for it on hand). Any thoughts on that? Also, do you know if adding the a fuel tuner like the FP3 does anything to the warranty, etc.?
Already have a high performance air intake installed on the bike, as was shown in vid. Coincidentally enough, V&H's FP3 already bases their tunes on having a high flow intake, so all good there.
why do you need gloves to ride an 883? The weather looks good to me. other than that , video appears correct. i did stage one on my Harley 48 with a similar set-up. Only had some minor problems.
Because hand injuries suck. Sliced a tendon on my pinky years ago. Needed surgery to get it fixed. Works pretty good (not perfect) but it rather ugly. I’d rather that the rest of my fingers not look like that and remain as functional as they are now.
I just got my FP3 and before I done anything to my bike I called V&H and they told me which map to download into my scoot and run a tank of fuel through it before I did the autotune.... just some FYI. I have the 09 Ultra Classic
Blockhead. Or anyone else. Would yall say that a tuner would maximize a all around stock bike? On auto tune? I keep thinking maybe yes. But wisdom comes from many advisers.
blockhead, that's a great start ! so glad you've not given up on fp3. that night/day feeling is good ain't it. looking forward to next instalment. We have freezing temps here in UK so watching UA-cam videos is next best thing at the moment ! Get those miles in
+funguseater40 Thanks man! Yeah good seeing it actually work, I was amazed! Finally working. Next installment tomorrow :) Glad to help you get through the cold season with the vids man! Hope weather clears up there soon for ya
When in autotune it will run bad especially when not in operating temperatures. I have mine set to start autotune at around 175 degrees which you can setup in advance settings in autotune
Very good job on this important task. I subscribed. We have an iron 883 as well. V&H Short shots on the way. Stock air intake. Can we run it without fuel pack tuning...with just exhaust installed? Thanks for your help.
I was told by Harley that you don't need to tune your bike until you change out the air filter, they also noted that the exhaust rilly doesn't have an effect on the engines performance, if you change your exhaust it's more of sound preference by the owner. They told me that the factory air filter is very restrictive and if you put on another more breathable filter that it would run very lean and it could do damage to your engine if you don't re-turn the engine for the new filter. But just putting pipes on your bike will work just fine. I did the same thing with my 2021 iron 1200, and it ran the same with the new pipe as it it did with the stock, but it is much louder and it now sounds like a harley davidson👍 Hope that helps. Happy trails.
Once you outgrow the engine, you can do a 1200 conversion ( or 1275) and it’ll have more power then a stock 1200. A small bike like that with the conversion will fly.
Vid is here - ua-cam.com/video/pJX3tqikN28/v-deo.html No reason for the relocation besides personal preference and aesthetics. Cleans up the lines / profile of the bike
It’s easier to not auto tune. Best to install. Ride. Send map to V&H and they adjust it. Can’t really auto tune with factory narrow band sensors anyway.
Broooo....I have an 09 Iron. Bassani radial sweepers and a SE heavy breather intake. Didnt have a tune, so I purchased the FP3. I flashed it for that specific setup, and still had a good amount of decel pop. Ran autotune and day by day it ran better and better. 5 days of riding, trying to hit every gear, all through the rev ranges and every ride had awesome results with multiple new green cells. Today decided to "Finish" the tune, and once I did, it didnt want to idle at all. Fuck! What bullshit. 400 bucks. I went back to the bassani tune and it idles fine. Imagine I'll be back to dealing with decel pop. Maybe just run autotune every day. Just keep applying new learned cells and never "finish" the tune??? What a bummer.
I've had issues with autotune as well. Runs great - auto tune...and then runs like shit. I am using 3" slip on slash cut map canned map. also the bike runs really hot! yesterday after an autotune session temp was close to 325 when i got off the bike!
Its a NARROW BAND tuner which means it may get you in the ball park of a good tune but its nothing like a wide band tune as in a real dyno tune with either O2 sensors or a tail pipe sniffer. Not to mention with this unit your driving it around while its tuning, which means as you ride it could be lean, or rich etc... on a dyno if you see it running rich or lean you stop immediately , make adjustments and try again. With this its possibly going to cause engine damage while it drives down the road popping, missing and not running right as it "learns" the fuel curve. Cool idea and concept but NOT IDEAL... Not to mention watching these videos it looks like it takes hundreds of miles or more.. silly really
People giving you grief because you don't know something are probably idiots not worth worrying about. Everything in life that I've learned of value was learned by either asking someone smarter than me or from painful experienced doing it incorrectly. This video is pretty old so no idea what your experience with V&H has been. But in Spring, 2023 V&H support has been essentially MIA. As in useless. I ask questions that are completely ignored. V&H *MIGHT* be great if your mods are 100% V&H products but if you have something different, as I do, you are told to use some generic V&H exhaust map. So in y case I am starting out with a map that is supposedly "close". I was also told multiple times to NOT use autotune as doing so will "confuse" the ECM. I've asked for tutorials on how the learning process works with autotune turned off... ignored. So if you buy a V&H product you are definitely on your own.
Am the biggest Harley Noob ever 😄 I managed to strip the air cleaner bolt and also broke one other bolt thinking it would make my life easier. But nope! Harley and their cheap a$$ bolts! Also managed to slightly scratch my tank a few times :/
Not alone there man, I ended up stripping a bolt for the AC, too. Had to notch it out w/ a dremel to remove it on one of my AC installs. Also when you're working, try putting a towel over the tank, helps to protect it!
Jocreative Iron man i stripped a hole in the primary . had to install a time sert. harley are made out of swiss cheese. i dont use strong locktite ate it snaps stuff. and use a torque wrench. go slow and take your time.
the top right bolt in the AC is a doozer! Had to use a bigger torque tool and hammer it in to get that stubborn bolt out. Worked in the end. Weekend project, Finishing off my rear LEDs and Turn Signals, 12" Apes, longer cables install, and other upgrades. Hope I can finish before NYE.
Hey man, that's how you learn. Imo working on your own bike is what it's about owning a Harley. Even though you broke shit still more respect then having someone else work on it. Don't give up on wrenching on your stuff. It gets easier as time goes on .
3 munites into the video, and I have to turn it off. those video edit/jumps are driving me crazy. The video looks interesting, but I just can't watch it.
old video but still spot on how the fp3 works... I got rinehart pipes and intake and the fp3, emailed V&H customer service to ask what to use, got an informative reply within 2 minutes. great product, great service.
Anyone remember when we did this with a screwdriver and a good ear?
Kenneth Hildebrand no :(
Kenneth Hildebrand you bet. I still use that tried and true method on any vehicles with carburetors
I still do that with my current fat boy.
I fucken want those days back. this computer crap sucks.
Funny my bike still has the damn stuff for that at least I don’t gotta pay 399 for a auto tune but then again I may have to buy a new carb XD
These days we need a notebook or a smartphone to tune our bikes.. thanks for all your videos! All very helpful! Did the wire tuck following your steps! Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!! 👊🏻
From FP3 to gangster dyno in house, leggo! 💪
Do I need the fuelpak if I’m just doing the exhaust for now? Or just wait to do the FP3 whenever I do the air cleaner?
Where did you get your chin spoiler ? I just had a deer hit mine and shattered it. I also don’t have $350 from Harley Davidson thank you for your time and I love your channel.

great video just got DCBob an FP3 for his sportster 883 took 10 mins to be running Auto Tune, great work V&H

Yeah same here, ended up reverting back in Auto Tune Session 03 video! Prob try again as well in the future, but for now, meh
Can you just run a exhaust and hi-flow map and unhook the fuel pak afterwards?
Thinking on changing the cams on my rocker-c and using the fp3 to tune it in. thanks
We need to know how,,,,from start to end,,,good work brother,,,👌😎🇦🇺
Did you get any oxygen sensor codes after the exhaust install? Cant get rid of my p0154 and p0051 after installing my exhaust
LOL dang dude I just realized your Imperial Symbol on the side. I just put a silver on my silver 883 iron. Great taste brother.
Imperial army sir! Haha, I had a silver one on mine for like a day, was too bright, so had to go black :)
Keep up the badass work.
im getting a 2013 iron today and my goal was to put a white Imperial logo on mine. now i see that you already did that. lol
Probably won’t get a response for this since it’s an old video but, does anyone know what seat he’s got on his motor?
Will the fp3 automatically setup for stock at block 1 or do I have to enter stock info at block 1 manually first, and then enter my stage 1 info manually at block 2?

+Derrick Durden With the high flow air intake, yes it does need to be tuned. If you had *only* the exhaust, then no.
I just installed the FP3 on my 2017 HD Tri Glide 107. Completely stock everything, and the tuner made it run like a champ.
I'm new to vlogging. How do you get your voice on the camera with no wind noise ? Also, can you delete the maps that you know you don't wan't? like the one that you duplicated ?
Let's say I install an exhaust that's not on the map tuning list, what do I do?
Chose something similar
nice info...I just got my Harley street bob. those mirrors are the stock ones but flipped out? because I flipped out my mirrors and the right one feels weird. did you put it between the cables?
Antaros yes

+Omar López Thanks man! Part two coming tomorrow :)
If you still have problem a high performance air intake has a bigger effect than exhaust run autotune based on a intake tune.
Already have a high performance air intake installed on the bike, as was shown in vid. Coincidentally enough, V&H's FP3 already bases their tunes on having a high flow intake, so all good there.

Randolph Scott Gloves to keep your skin on your hands in the event you slide....
Because hand injuries suck. Sliced a tendon on my pinky years ago. Needed surgery to get it fixed. Works pretty good (not perfect) but it rather ugly. I’d rather that the rest of my fingers not look like that and remain as functional as they are now.
Have you ever hit a rock or road debris with your bare knuckles? Yeah after that I started using gloves
What seat is that?
what kind of shocks do you have on your bike?
And what if I don't use a high flow air filter?
I just got my FP3 and before I done anything to my bike I called V&H and they told me which map to download into my scoot and run a tank of fuel through it before I did the autotune.... just some FYI. I have the 09 Ultra Classic

bollocks, link blocked at work...i will check it out when i get home...thanks!
Cool. My next investment.... slip on V&H with high flow. ‘14, 1200.
It’s easier to not auto tune. Best to install. Ride. Send map to V&H and they adjust it. Can’t really auto tune with factory narrow band sensors anyway.
Yo Blockhead, was it yours first bike?
i'm planning to buy a Vance & Hines short shot...do i need FP3 too???pls..help..thanks a lot
You don't have to but the FP3 will give your bike the best performance.
subbed after what you said the first 2 min. of your video. 👍
Thanks Francisco! Gotta keep that integrity :)
Francisco Delgadillo I was about to subscribe but apparently I already did.. probably when I was drinking lol

are you gonna get t bars?
Got them on order! Should be in within the week. Zero drags, 32" dimpled w/ 4.5" pullback, w00t
nice! cant wait for the video
Hey bro install the siren II on the iron 883
awesome. I'm guna try it on my bike later. I hope I can finally autotune mine.
+memo CASTANEDA Hope it works out for you! Keep me posted! :)
I didnt try it. but I did just finish talking to v&h about it.
+memo CASTANEDA What did they say? Any recommended fixes?
BLOCKHEAD you just got a subscriber with you integrity comment 😁😁😁😁
blockhead knows the deal
So how did removing baffle help exactly?
No idea, it just ran better for some reason. That's a question for Vance & Hines!
App?
Nice lil bike n video! Thanks for sharing.
Daily videos please!!
I've had issues with autotune as well. Runs great - auto tune...and then runs like shit. I am using 3" slip on slash cut map canned map. also the bike runs really hot! yesterday after an autotune session temp was close to 325 when i got off the bike!
Crazy! Has been such a mixed bag of experiences with auto tune I've noticed. With some it's great, others, not so much.
u r a wiz, just thinking how much money we can all save instead of paying a fortune going to the dealership to have it tuned
I love that intro
When I saw Autotune I expected to hear some singing...
I’m the same way, love figuring thing out my self.
Exist that in Portuguese??
I respect you nooby 🔥🔥
what i read it will take 150-200 miles to get auto tune to the fullest
Keep it up great videos!
Thanks Jared!
Stop explaining shit to fucking haters. Good channel, keep it up and ride safe!
It's not supposed to run perfect when in autotune mode....inly after you flash the learned maps.
Hey Siri, tune my bike!
What could possibly go wrong?
😎
i want to be sponsored by Duncan Hines
Take it to the shop your phone cannot do anything to help your bike seriously . Get it dyno tuned your bike will run better and last years longer .
cool
be real .. nice video sounded good
Thanks Tex!
You keep it real bro.
Big helps blockhead
auto tune? still jetting carbs.
I wish I could put em pipes on my iron 883 but California be on some b.s lol
It runs like shit in auto tune its sapose too. When you click finish it will run good again.
+G Buxton Except that it didn't.
Youre turning into a regular T-Pain
+Downgr4de lol! It took me a second to get this joke. Well done sir 👌🏼

not sure if you have done a face reveal but if you do wear a Minecraft helmet. would be very funny.
That's a great idea, haha

I wish I could somehow carburate my sportster so I can tune it without spending $400 and just use anything that's flat.
Just buy a pre 2004 sportster? Or spend the 2k to swap out all the fuel injection and replace with carb
