  • Job started and i show u my idea how to extend shaft for hoverboard wheel for easy mounting in front of my electric scooter, as u can see the bolt screws in but not perfectly straight but i dont care as the shaft is not moving at all :) In next video will show u how i mount the wheel to scooter. Thanks for watching :)

When i saw the name of this video I was expecting to see a new shaft turned on a lathe pressing the single sided shaft out and pressing the new one in... Instead I saw something I didn't expect at all, a kitten ! well done. Without a shop full of tools you did a good job breaking every rule in the book and accomplishing your mission. well done.

I've spent ages thinking about how to do this and this looks like the perfect solution. Those motors are cheap and plentiful on the secondhand market, but having a shaft on only one side really limits what can be done with them from a hobbyist perspective. I think I'll machine a shaft properly, but use your technique to screw it onto the motor. Thanks for the great tip!

when tapping a threaded hole turn tap back 1/4 turn for every 1/2 turn forwards to clear swarf, its a lot easier!

When you tap a hole you want to turn back a quarter of a turn for every full rotation, it breaks the chip off and stops it jamming up, also lowers risk you will break the tap off in the hole :)

Cat was the best part, the rest was pure awful to watch, lack of drill bit sizes, taps thread inside a magnetic motor hub (shards all over).
Mounting a shaft is very easy even at home:
    1. drill hole in center of stub end for centering
    2. Drill hole into center of your new extension
    3. Thread the two pieces into each other
    4. Grind a small channel at the joint section
    5. Weld a solid circle all around
    6. Shave the excess weld for a smooth shaft transition
All of the above are done OUTSIDE OF THE HUB, clean everything off then re-assemble.
At the end of the day if you have a free hoverboard motor maybe its worth doing this, otherwise the scooter motors with shaft on both sides are 60-80$ on ali express.

  • @oeriel

The way you do it is so unprofessional... Better is to weld a part instead of making hole for bolt, but... not everyone can weld. The way you done it can be done in home, without magic tools. And... the way it's shown can be improved a lot, but... it's a good one. So thank you for this job.
And... this kitten... I didn't see what you are doing, I was looking at him ;)
