The Bene Gesserit predicted that at the appointed time during the round three playthrough that this would be your new favorite series…which means the Bene Gesserit win by prediction.
Didn't expect it when I watched the first one, but now I just fistbump and insta-click when another Dune round shows up. And the music is a great touch, brings a lot of flair!
That's great news! I'm just now watching ep 3. I ordered the board game as soon as I heard from MCDM that it would be available 'next month', which meant November. Sadly there were no Black Friday sales for it.
Thing is, its so great, 1st part was so genuine i bought so into this being real , i fanboyed out like Matt . :-D but somehow a new start fest wrong then, its like a RPG after all. :-D worst was when people changed, because i created lore where just those people where the factions. ( agree on typecast harkonnen and atreides , also all knowing scheming from behind benennen matt). So Yeah, i am spoil. Watched the 1st part many times then, even if my superficial sexist me says, hey look that new lady is really cuute. :-D
I'm loving this series of videos. Of course Dune is clearly an awesome game, though my main reasons for being addicted: 1) The screen layout and effects (fabulous) 2) O'D (hilarious London geezer legend) 3) Matt C (he's soooo besotted with Dune and it's great to see) 4) Anna's giggle (lovely) More please.
Aw yeah round 3! I ended up buying this game because of your playthroughs. Being able to watch someone play through it like this makes me much more confident in being able to play correctly with my friends :)
The new version is slightly different, they are playing the original version, but really only like 3 things that are different I think and you could probably still play the same way they do and be fine.
The Algorithm brought me here from Shut up & Sit Down's review of the re-release of Dune... so for those keeping track, the algorithm works? somewhat? I'd totally be down to watching y'all play another game of Dune, btw.
I would like to add my voice to the crowd and say that I'd love to more see playthrough sessions of this. I thoroughly enjoyed every video. More please.
Normally when I watch something like this on UA-cam, I kind of just let it play in the background whilst I do other things. These Dune games are some of the only ones I've ever bothered to pause and/or rewind to make sure I see what's going on. Table of clever people playing a clever game! Very fun to watch, and I really want this game for my own table. I wouldn't complain at all if this game made semi-regular re-appearances!
I was in the process of trying to find a complete copy of the original when GF9 dropped their version. Absolutely worth the 40-50 bucks. Even with the two expansions, you'll be spending only about 100 bucks. The large rolled map they put out as well is also totally worth it.
I was thinking the same thing throughout the series. I feel like he might be going easy so the game isn’t over in round 1 or 2. To be fair, he has played the two slowest starting factions in the game. The BG and Fremin are both slow burn factions.
Matt new how far the strom was moving and still placed his dudes in that sector. He must have been really tired to miss that. And O'D payed his 13 spice to the bank instead of Anna
I like to believe Matt was actually offended as a firmen when anna thought they were sprouting from the sand lmao 🤣 the cut after the exchange was too funny 😁
Yeah, I'm a little late to the party but these videos are a blast to watch, really wished I could've catch you guys live. We played a LOT of Avalon Hill's "Frank Herbert’s Dune" way back when with my favourite people, and I'll say this is pure nostalgia at it's finest! It's so much fun to play this game when you know the other players well, and it shows here! I'll positively give the Gale Force 9 reprint a try! Cheers from Canada!
I would really love to see you all play Dune again on stream. I love Dune and I love watching you play it. I rewatched the videos throughout the years, I would like to see more after 4 years.
I think given maybe 2 games to get into it she'd be absolutely great as the Bene Gesserit, she definitely picks up and runs with the mechanics of the game very well, and the esoteric nature of that faction lends itself to someone that can blindside people with a better understanding of the mechanics.
I got a thumbs up so the notification brought me back here. So I'll continue. Matt's problem is he loves the Dune franchise so much that he plays the Bene Gesserit as they are depicted in the books and doesn't bare his teeth and play to win. The best way to win as the Bene Gesserit its to absolutely not play them as a passive faction. Get some weapons and start swinging... He says they have no income, I just sell my future alliance. Per worm.
@@ashleyhoughton8592 I have only played a couple of games and never with the BG, but looking at their rules (especially their advanced ones) they seem like a hilariously powerful faction if played by an experienced player who goes in deceptively and agressively. Matt is excellent at being the game's master and commentator, but I absolutely agree with you that his passive play doesn't do the witches any justice.
I think Anna (The Guild) wins every time because you've house ruled it to seven rounds, and made the Guild optional victory condition OP. Food for thought.
29:01 - I believe Matt can't send the worm to the rock territory. At least the Gale Force Nine version says "all additional sandworms that appear after the first sandworm can be placed by you in any *sand* territory you wish". Which is in line with the Dune lore.
Popping in to say that I’ve been binge consuming these games while shopping and cooking and doing pleasant activities and it’s been wonderful background noise, but the comment Lars makes at 1:53:42 felt really rude and unnecessary. Props to Anna for the quick, clean, above the belt clap back. Love this content. Very impressed at the quality of these videos.
These Dune playthroughs have been the perfect entertainment during a couple of days of illness. Vegetating in bed to longform videos is the best. I'm desperate to have and play this game - I feel I've learned so much which will make the first playthrough less intimidating. As a sidebar, Tom reminds me of young Deadmau5
I did not expect to watch any of these Dune videos. I typically don't have time to watch long form videos and rarely if ever have the attention span or interest. I've been glued to the screen for all three of these and would be delighted to see you guys do more. I'm generally just a fan of your group and any content you put out, but this was incredibly good and I ended up picking up the game from Gale Force Nine.
I am dying to get together with my family for Thanksgiving to play Dune. The game is just sitting on a shelf staring at me, but I love watching you guys play.
Dude, just got my copy of Dune after watching this and the other three, along with Shut Up & Sit Down's review of Dune, this game looks super fun, can't wait to play with my friends and family in the next week or two... Hope you guys do another Dune game eventually!
I cannot describe how much I enjoy these. I only found your channel because of the first Dune game you played (reading the books for the first time so i guess the searches I've been doing have lead me here), but I look forward to every one that you post.
Watched all three of your games so far :) Love it absolutely love it! Please record another round. I'm Dutch but buying the game as soon as possible and really looking forward to introducing this to my friends. Keep up the videos!
Daniel Wolf I disagree - if the question specifies a number one (unless saying one or more) the yes or no question is do you have x traitors of mine where x = 1. If I hold x=2 or more traitors I can honestly answer no. It’s not a hard trap to avoid with a bit more care in your question and it only applies to the Hark player as they are the only one who can have more than one traitor. I only brought it up as that was how the question was phrased in this video and was really hoping the hark player had multiple traitors.
I am LOVING these play-throughs. I just read Dune in anticipation of playing the game with my game group for the first time, and these videos are helping me understand how the game is played on a much higher level. Great work!!
Epic Series, nice seeing the factions being switched up. Also Lars seems like one of the most chill guys at the table, contrary to everyone saying Harkonnen fits him. Thought Jason fitted that role way better then Lars but hey I only watch Dune videos so who am I to judge
Love this game simply because no two games are ever even close to each other. For instance, I've never seen so many BG sisters in one place as this game featured. Also, Alia got las'ed in the *face* and that makes me smile.
Another great episode! And nice of you to add some tunes. I listened to the soundtrack of Emperor: Battle for Dune the two previous episodes, just to have some ambience, but your playlist fits just as well for me.
Hey what a great game!!! I have two questions on this: 1. where do you have your player aids from? There are some at bgg for the GF9-Version, but yours seem to be more comfortable with all the necessary information included? 2. Do I see it right, that Lars could have won the game with Tom if he had transferred his 3 troops to Tueks siege instead of Siege Tabr? It would have been possible to win that battle against Tom and his alliance partner (Tom-Harkonnen) could have won against Anna in Carthag. I was just wondering - Seems that Lars had been too curious about taking the lasgun-shield combo instead of seeing the victory possibility. Thank you very much - I hope to see way more videos of this epic great game!
would it be too difficult to put everyone's spice total in their little box with them? I know the players can hide that number but it would be helpful for the audience to keep track of things, I think. Kind of like the hp updates in robo rally
Watched the first two and only got this one left and I love every second of it! I hope you keep going! And this series is a huge contributing factor to me having ordered the game and eagerly awaiting its arrival!
The Empire should have a condition to win with are large amount of Spice horde, the whole monopolizing the spice market condition. Love these videos, I can't stop watching them. The game captures the whole Machiavelli aspect of the books too, I would love to buy the new addition but I've not enough friends to play it. It made me reread the first three books on top of this.
but the empire having a stockpile of spice isn't representative of them monopolizing the spice market. because tehy don't control the production of spice. they just have it. that being said, i respectfully disagree, such a rule would mean that the emperor's optimal strategy would be to just...chill. essentially not play the game besides collecting money during bidding.
Great group of players making awesome videos of an awesome game. Thanks guys, you really made my week. I do hope you'll make more of Dune videos :) Cheers !
Idea, after turn 7, you could do something to either revive a larger number of dead troops, or give each player another 10-20 troops, so that the game didn’t become just beaming 3 troops at a time and would make the later game more interesting and violent
Thanks guys, good video. I've watched three now, and since the first one I've all the time thought the Guild is too strong with just 7 rounds. And the Guild won 2 out of 3. There seems to be a one climax in the game within 7 rounds and if that doesn't do it, it will become really hard to achieve an actual victory. I really hope you could play for a couple of rounds more.
I kinda wish more people used the truth trance card to ask players if they were going to attack them - that is such a huge game changer, and can shape the entire strategy.
(I had to store this on my watch list since it's a three-hour video, but finally getting around to it.) You know, I could never get this game to the table - a bit too much to teach up-front for the first game, and needing six players is what spikes it. We can get five people reasonably invested in a game like this, but six is one person too far. Luckily, I can watch MCDM board-game and enjoy it. Also getting the idea to pick up Codenames since one "side" of the group likes light games and yet Taboo was *painful*.
If anyone is looking for an alternative Player Aid sheet that is updated for the Gale Force Nine version of the game, I've spent a bit of time on making this: drive.google.com/open?id=1trCwtOQ-tSceDfa8wSwYwTj_2xOyXGmq The folder includes the original player aid pad, along with my new design in color, black & white, and printer-friendly versions. I've also included the Microsoft Publisher File I used to create it. Thanks to MCDM for inspiring me to buy one of the best board games I've ever played.
Already watched the first 2 rounds. I'd love to see more. I just got the new print from GF9 as a birthday present and i'd love to see you guys play that version. Please keep this up :D
When a space covers multiple sectors, you can always claim to be in the non storm sector. Fremen could have attacked teuk's siech. from false wall south on turn 3.
29:00 I'm afraid you can't do that. Sandworms can only appear and be placed in sand territories. It's explicitly stated in the rules. Also the sandworm ride happens only upon the conclusion of the Nexus.
Pretty sure this is a discrepancy between the Avalon Hill rules and the Gale Force 9 printing, or at least the Player Aid Pad pdf online. For the AH rules it doesn't specify a sand territory, just any territory you wish, but that the worm cannot devour tokens if the Fremen player decides to place it not in a desert/sand territory.
Came here after Shut Up and Sit Down, watched it and the previous rounds. Round 4? Also great advertisement for the gale force 9 game xD Now to get it and 5 friends who will play it...
This is rapidly becoming my new favourite series. Who knew such a thing would be so but a month ago?
I kinda want to watch a full game instead of this speed version. Mostly because of the ability to come back.
Let’s bring it back!

Insert that one anime meme "people die when they are killed!"
I had a version of that during my own game of Dune that one time
- "If you kill a leader, do they die?"
- "...yes"

Thanks guys, good video. I've watched three now, and since the first one I've all the time thought the Guild is too strong with just 7 rounds. And the Guild won 2 out of 3. There seems to be a one climax in the game within 7 rounds and if that doesn't do it, it will become really hard to achieve an actual victory. I really hope you could play for a couple of rounds more.
Such a great channel, I really enjoy these games.
I kinda wish more people used the truth trance card to ask players if they were going to attack them - that is such a huge game changer, and can shape the entire strategy.
After having seen round 1 and 2 yesterday, I've order the game. Yes, years later, but still ... :)
Music really, really helps. Love the atmosphere.
(I had to store this on my watch list since it's a three-hour video, but finally getting around to it.)
You know, I could never get this game to the table - a bit too much to teach up-front for the first game, and needing six players is what spikes it. We can get five people reasonably invested in a game like this, but six is one person too far. Luckily, I can watch MCDM board-game and enjoy it. Also getting the idea to pick up Codenames since one "side" of the group likes light games and yet Taboo was *painful*.
I hope we'll get to see more /Dune/ play sessions in future.
I love these people. Would give anything to have a chance to play...
Straight up pissing myself over Switchblade Häagen Dazs
If anyone is looking for an alternative Player Aid sheet that is updated for the Gale Force Nine version of the game, I've spent a bit of time on making this:
drive.google.com/open?id=1trCwtOQ-tSceDfa8wSwYwTj_2xOyXGmq
The folder includes the original player aid pad, along with my new design in color, black & white, and printer-friendly versions.
Awesome game, I've just got my gaming group into it!
Yesssssss!!!!! More Dune!!!
