I visited Alaska for the first time and went solely to watch the northern lights in Fairbanks. It was in late February and the temperature dropped to -20F when I was outside taking the photos, we had two feet of snow but it was well worth it. Amazing landscapes and the lights are truly a thing to experience at least once in your life. You can see pictures of them but you need to see them in person.
I lived in rural Alaska for 16 wonderful years, until I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer and had to come to the lower 48 for 1 of the five doctors that was familiar with the cancer.
Alaska is very beautiful. There are no pictures or movies can portray how beautiful it really is. Only a visit will do. Winters are only boring in Alaska for people that shouldn't be living there. ;-)
I wish you will be better for enjoying alaska again :)

Thank you soooo much! I'm hoping to make it up there this summer!
Is that you climbing? Where are you at?
ya,,,there's great wall at siung beach...you wanna try??? :D
Would Love to! :-)
*****
Thanks so much....
I so appreciate it!
I've been free of the cancer for 7 yrs...Yay!
However unfortunate, since , along with other health thst have arisen, Brain Tumor, RA....
I had a botched, what was supposed to be a short, minor surgery last june 2013. The Dr. left me with multiple BiLateral Pulmonary Embolisms and a Pulmonary Infarction in the lower quadrant of my right lung...unbelievably painful and deadly. I count my Blessings I'm still here. I was in Critical for 5 days. Then, this year in the beginning of April, I developed another Pulmonary Infarction in the other lung on the left, after the heartache from having to bury my big brother two weeks earlier. I'm not healing up so well this time. It's going to take some patience. It takes awhile for that lung tissue to regrow after it has died. I can't do much, and it can be extremely painful. Nevertheless, I am grateful, in that I am comforted by Faith in Christ Jesus...
My family has been Great...
I also have an incredible team of Doctors...
So I'm just not going to worry about it. ;-)
Life is so sweet, why waste the short time we have here on earth, worrying about the Flesh, when it is the Joy of the Spirit that enriches, :-)
If you feel the pull of Alaska, you should definitely go. You will never be the same after being there!
Alaskans are generally very laid back. They are very individualistic and live life on their own terms. You kinda have to be rugged to live in most places. But there are certain appeals to Alaska that draw a lot of people: the fresh water/air; the outdoors; wildlife; hunting; fishing; boating; relaxing, etc. Basically, if you love the outdoors, Alaska is for you. If not, it's probably not the best mix. Even Anchorage has some pretty crazy winters, moose walking the streets, etc. Alaska rocks.
Outstanding Presentation. Living here in AK I learned something new regarding the Pebble Mine. Get Involved if you can. Protect what was here first. Let nature do its thing. We as a society need to start voting with our dollar, and begin to consume less, and waste little. Excellent words spoken by the speaker. Amazing shots of the best place on earth -
I had no idea about this proposed mine, so thanks for sharing. I signed the petition. We, as humans, have to realize that quality of life is more important than money.
My friend and I are planning a trip to Alska next year! Im excited! I must see the Northern Lights 😍😍
Priscilla Olmos Alaska is just so awesome
So did you and your friend see the Northern Lights?
I love these long videos, Nat Geo!!! thumbs up to you!
I live here in Alaska. I've lived throughout the lower 48 and being prior military i've been all over the world. This place(country) is a hidden treasure. It's amazing!!!!!!!
There is no hustle and busle per say....... This is life that's pure and free. Really, you can actually walk into Walmart or Fred Myer with mud all over you and people don't look at you like "What the h--l. Just amazing.................
Wow! that was very informative and educational!!! Thanks!
Very well done video with great pictures and narrative. Also got his facts right.
When he said "slow down the lens speed" I was like "man, i don't shit about cameras" lol
Excellent information...as an amateur photographer i can appreciate the work involved...beautiful photography ....Thanks !!!!
It really depends on where you live. I lived for 5 years in a village of 200 people named Port Lions which is on Kodiak Island. There were 5 miles of unpaved roads, no stores, no roads in or out. It's a hunter and fisher's paradise. It's gorgeous. But then the weather is also a factor, raining about 100 inches a year. But then there are places in Alaska like Anchorage with 300,000 people, universities, and everything a big city has.
wunderschöne Photos, möchte auch so fotografieren können! Super
Northern Alaska is the best. Going on Dalton Highway above the Arctic circle is where the landscape really shows its self. I am planning on visiting the most deserted areas in the northernmost part of Alaska.
Thanks for the video! We can't wait to go this summer!
Thanks for the vidéo ! I want to go there !
Beautiful photography and a good oration
i lived there for like 7 months. 5 months in winter. and it was really fun. I liked to go snowmobiling in really crappy weather because its so dangerous and exciting. it did get boring after a while. thats when you just walk in the wilderness and discover something new. or be a daredevil and take your quad through some snow. scary stuff!
There's been no dislike for this great talk so far :)

thumbs up to keep this.
I would love to go to Alaska
The Pebble Mine is the worst idea ever. It will destroy the area and do nothing for anyone in the area.
Awesome, you should come visit!
This is my dream: National Geographic master photographer in ALASKA!
Fantastic!!!!!!!!
Beautiful
Hermosisimo gracias Dios por tu creacion
thank u NG!
Thanks for helping to prove my point.
Beautiful video.
Yes we would. You should start working with some hunting lodges, bush pilots, guides etc. to put together some hunting and fishing packages for soldiers as well as sight seeing packages. I'm sure you can get local businesses to offer discounted prices for military.
Wow, cool! It was loaded today and look how many views it got. Good to know that people like nature. :))
Beautiful!!! :)
I'm so jealous of this guy lol
nice pictures.
sooou mindblowing
Awesome, i want to go there! :)
@MaladaptiveCatalyst Natural Geographic isn't just about pictures and videos. This one in particular was also about that major mining operation going on over there.
Man This place is gorgeous, hows life there?
i wanna go to alaska!
Alaska is a place everyone should see but its not a good place for everyone too live some just dont have the heart to be an alaskan
Alaska its the most beautiful place to live, I want to be photographer, dutch Harbor .... Its nice!!

wow! Alaska
@AlbinoGiraffe123 I'm planing to go next year too, I'm from Scotland but Alaska has always been no1 on my places to go list, what an amazing place! So jealous of all the people who get to live there ;)
you know what I dont understand, Nat Geo? is why do you reupload things over and over? I mean why would you remove the first one?
lmao "i didnt ask her to do this she just picked up this fish and kissed it " :')
Another vote for Nature
I live in B.C. and eat Alaska salmon because we've destroyed our salmon streams with logging and mining. What happens when Alaska does the same thing? Bottom line: you can't eat copper and you can't eat money. Food and water come from nature and we must preserve it!
@chmellen Alaska has some of the most frequent earthquakes in the United States. One of the biggest to ever hit the US was there and destroyed Anchorage.
I'm going to alaska in December :)
where can i download nat geo video for free?
@triickpixie And no it's not every month, it's once a year. Sometimes it's a bit more than that, one year it was around $3,200.
@TheAKGrizz10 dude i really want to visit alaska! i looks amazing. i spent a month in the canadian rockies last year, but apparently alaska blows it out of the water.
right i have a question. my friend phil said to me to not go, as i have coloured skin, and apparently it is not safe. is this true? or is he just talking out of his be-hind
Would like to reside over there.
Sigh....I miss Alaskan State Troopers, BRING IT BACK!!
Epicmealtime brought me here.
Jesus! national geographic is a dream company..
where R U from??
all the countries have beautiful parts.
@Byers333 Well, living in a desert state for my entire life, all my friends, dreams and memories are here. Alaska is just a HUGE step away from all of that. I'm just nervous and scared to be honest. lol I'll FREEZE.
@RAINBOWMATRIXS1 maybe, but it hasn't been so long since they've posted the original! and I don't think that's a smart move on their part because people really get sick of having tons of videos in their subscription feed and this might make them unsubscribe!
I really wish I could and I have thought about it, but I think I'm too much of a city slicker.
No. I don't think I will. But your quite welcome to do it yourself Ivan.
@MissComi The first video was uploaded containing a small error. It was up for less than 24 hours before the replacement video was uploaded. Sorry for the inconvenience. We try to provide only new content. Thanks for subscribing.
NOT BLOCKED FROM AUSTRALIA
YAY :D
@kiddhitta lol. Some people still believe that the earth is 6000 years old.
another mine, big surprise. make it a world salmon heritage site.
I will live in Alaska in the future. I have only one question - is it true that US government pays you 1000$ a month just because you are living there? P.s. Is it easy to get US citizenship if you decide to live ina Alaska?
How can a mine be worth more than this place?
Thank you for the tour and the thought of protecting balanced nature. I have no faith in dams. Look what happened in Japan. Can they promise no earthquakes?
18:10 M'kay
this video inspired me to support Sarah Palin. thanks NG
@Yobidefy Yes, Alaska was purchased from Russia in 1867
