I just found this channel so I'm trying to just get the basic card counting down I'm not doing so well but it helps when he has the running count for the next round
As someone who is just learning the basically strategy, I liked being able to guess when the next move should be. I was going to try counting too but gave up early.
You really should do more videos like this. Now that you might not have any more ideas of guides on how to play Blackjack, this is a good way to get videos out.
I very much liked this format. I've been with you for quite some time and this was very entertaining. Having the dynamics of different experience and playstyles was fun to watch without needing to be more concerned with my own hand and count.
This is one of the best vids you’ve done so far. Just getting into blackjack and all about your page. Please more real-time vids like this! Thank you 🙏
Colin I love your content BUT it would be cool to see this with a ploppy playing perfect basic strategy and not doing things like splitting 5s of the jump. I know the counters would likely still prevail but the ploppy could have a positive variance streak that would make it interesting. I just think it'd be a better comparison, anyways thanks again for the great content!
So I tried to count this today. I was off by 1 two separate times, and off by a lot (6,) in one hand when I forgot I was counting. I got distracted. Watching this again taught me a lot about what you were doing and when and why. I think I need to learn strategy now and keep practicing counting and see if i can do both at once. rofl.
I wish the dealers at a casino kept asking if we want them to deal another hand at the end of the shoe xD Nice video, good fun. If you do more, make sure to have the discard tray in the shot
I love this kind of content, I hope you guys continue to make more like it! Thank you! I do not count cards, I just enjoy playing basic strategy. Some day I'll learn to count, for me specifically it's just a lot to comprehend.
When I started reading and memorizing the basic strategy chart of yours last week and played yesterday a 1 card deck here in my local casino in just almost 30mins my $150 bankroll went up to $710.. Though my card counting still messing a bit but hopefully I get there soon thank you Sir!
This was so entertaining! I'm not necessarily asking for anything, but it would be nice if you make those type of videos every once in a while (like few times a year) 🙂 also, I was looking for a not that aggressive bet spread, I guess I already found a 1-6 one 😅 also, since I started learning basic strategy and counting about a month ago (I don't spend that much time training a day, like 15/20 minutes) I decided to try keeping the running count on my own from the 2nd hand (I got the idea after the 1st one): I messed up twice, which is obviously very bad, but at least it was right on the 2nd hand because I got distracted and another very chaotic one. But yeah, all of that too say that it was very entertaining and also super useful, this is the first time I'm actually able to see the speed of an IRL game (I know it can vary a lot, but still), great video! 💪
Remember guys, card counting does work you need a good bank roll, and you will lose hands but that’s where you need to place the appropriate bet. It’s all about generating positive EV and it’s a long term game. I won my last few sessions of blackjack but the time is just as much as a pro poker game. I play poker most of the time now. I every once in awhile play blackjack. But when I do I go with a solid bank roll and play strictly with counting. Lastly stay humble and stay focused no matter how fun it is if you lose the count please get off the table!!
Been playing since 2019. Logged in 650 hours that first year, then about 100 hours the following years. Break even player even after all this time. It is what it is. The forces are strong when I am about to have a chance to get ahead!! My 2 card 20s are fun to see on the high count until…dun dun dun….hello Dealer backdoor blackjack (4) times in a row to my pocket 20s. The funniness of the casinos!
Great video. Oh man when she spilt the queens, I couldn’t believe it 😂 and then went bigger size on the next play. Yikes. Crazy to think some people actually play like this. Great illustration of the gambler mindset! Cheers!
Echoing the sentiment that this was a great format. I'd like to see this more frequently. Some suggestions for improvement: A better view of the deck/discard so we can play along with estimating true count. Also I like the periodic updates on running count but it could be a cool way to use the annotations or a special closed caption in the video so that the count is always available updated to the most recent hand.
I lost last time I went to the casino and I was very discouraged and I started questioning if somehow I was counting the cards wrong. After being able to keep up with the count all the way through this video, it gave me my confidence back that I am at least not messing up the running count. I find it kind of hard to tell how many decks are left though and even how many are discarded at casinos. Maybe I'm messing up the true count idk. Great video though! Will come back to practice before next trip to casino.
The fluctuation in just one shoe of play was very mild. I have run simulations for given rules and conditions and the sims show that you need a very large bankroll into the many thousands to achieve a certain risk of ruin. This is because losing streaks can go on for months where you lose and lose and it can make you wonder if you are doing everything right. It’s interesting to note that the two card counting players had outcomes where one lost and the other won, and this demonstrates that anything can happen in the short term. It’s quite possible that if more shoes were dealt, one could go on having winning hands while the other loses big time and yet each player played correctly, apart from having different bet sizing. It can take hundreds of rounds of play before your results get close to the EV of the game.
Last time I was in Vegas I busted on every 12 If i had over 18 dealer pulls a 20 or 21. Any time i doubled an 11 it was always less than 4. Dealer never busted once So rigged
I’m getting it and I barely started looking into this I love it I’m right on the count and the running count after each hand played so far will keep learning more thank you.
It was pretty entertaining watching the two counters play perfectly and your wife just play according to her whims and sometimes things just wouldn't work out for the counters while she would get lucky. It goes to show that card counting is playing the odds, but odds are just that - odds. You can profit over a career of counting if you're good, but you WILL have sessions where you lose hand after hand after hand despite playing perfectly and you *will* inevitably feel the tilt when someone who's drunk, doesn't know what they're doing and is just there to have a good time wins big lol.
Great episode! Post more! At least once a week. These are helpfull. Watching others, that are at a lot closer to our levels, practicing. Would be great as well if you put thr card's sums and the count on the screen the entire time.
This was really good to see how far I have gone learning how to count and convert true count, watching them bet the amount I am guessing they should was so fun I'd love to see more of these, and possibly with a view of the discard tray as that is probably the only part I am not too comfortable with ;D Love this channel, been watching for a while now and is probably the best for learning all you need to get started and I bought some of the books mentioned in some videos, really good reads ;D
I learned to play blackjack on The World Is Not enough PS1 game. Ever since then I play it blackjack when I'm not too busy. My win rate is pretty high despite not learning to count cards in the traditional sense.
I was just at the casino counting cards. Had my first losing session in about 2 months. No matter how many times I lose, it totally sucks. I was in a great winning streak from Vegas to the near by casinos. But it's too to know how the pros do it. I'm a little off on my wager. It's good to know the value you put on the hands. Thanks
I would love to see more content like this. Videos of people not following basic strategy juxtaposed to top notch advantage play to everything in between. That would get Stephen Bridges numbers. Please give it some thought regardless of whether you already have.
Never seen it like this before (well, except for “Telly Savalas’ ABC’s of Blackjack” players). Nicely well done, Colin and all of Blackjack Apprenticeship.
SUPER helpful on how do to the betting spread and when. Also was able to keep the count along with the vid in a "live" play scenario, even with distractions. Thanks for this one!
That was great thanks Colin. I use the KO system and counted along with you guys and had the same deviations etc. as Loudon did. My max bet would have been out a little sooner based on the KO, but other than that, it was very similar, so that was good to see
I've realised that is much easier than I thought. I noticed that when you are not counting every card individually, it's so much easier. In addition, by just thinking of the number, not the calculation itself. You have enough time for the rest.
Never played competitive black jack. Gkad i fell upon your video. High five 4s 3s n 2s on anyting make it a rush for myself. Sometime we are own demise.
Interesting to count halves while you count hi-lo. There were lots of 5's and 7's at the beginning of the shoe making for a wide disparity--but I came to zero at the end with the rest of you.
Amazing video, but I must say the no-insurance call at 9:14 was questionable. The count did drop at the end of the deal but the dealer’s face down card was dealt when the true count was still 3, so when I saw that I called insurance. But tougher to catch in the heat of the moment
I just enjoy blackjack and card counting for fun. Hence my questions: 1. Is the playing speed "in real life" ususally similar to the speed here? 2. How do you execute the count - card by card or the first four cards (players and dealer) and then the second three cards (players) together?
I liked this video the best - I like to see blackjack being played but with how much is being bet and why - and the result of pro vs amateurs. As well as card counting. Please do more of such videos. There are so many blackjack videos on UA-cam that actually show people playing incorrectly. Thanks
I use Uston advanced point count. The true count is almost twice as high into the mid game. For example at 9:15 it is 28 divided by remaining half deck number and is greater than 2.5. Hi lo is a little less than 3 not high enough to take insurance.
@@jasonlongsworth4036 I was referring to the pace of what was being dealt. It just doesn't remind me of any blackjack I've played at the casino, but this was an excellent video for those who may want to get their feet wet.
Hey Colin. Loved the video. Big fan here. My only question about the video is when do you guys consider a good idea to surrender 8,8? In your charts it doesn't say and SD1 surrendered one of those and you approved so I guess it is suggested to treat it as a 16 Index or is there another index to be considered? Thank you kindly in advance. Still hoping to see more long videos from you guys and hopefully you can do one about the math behind playing 2 spots in our spread.
This is probably one of the most satisfying videos to watch on this channel
The most satisfying and helpful videos you could ever see.
Yeah this is legit
Why did I feel the exact same way
i couldn’t stop. ok now sleeping
And its because of Colins lovely vest
I liked that. There should have been a video window showing the discard tray so we could practice estimating the decks.
good suggestion

You can't beat the game with a 1-6 spread if the penetration is 1.5 decks. You need around a 1-20 spread (2 spots) to have good EV and a lower N0.
If it's a single or double deck then yeah for sure, but for 6 decks you need bigger spread
