The Acolyte was the SW show I was most excited for, and I've just found it really sloppily written and convoluted with characters that aren't captivating. I fear that all the genuine criticism about the show (for which there is plenty out there) is getting roped in with the awful hate speech, and thus any criticism is being dismissed by Lucasfilm.
Regarding CaptainAmerica 1) It literally says "Official TEASER." That's why it feels like a teaser. Lol. 2) Monday, February 16, 2025, is President's Day. So it's coming out for President's Day Weekend. It's just coincidence that the 2 holidays are so close together.
The temperature around everything is so hot right now. I don't know how people maintain this level of rage about everything. I'm exhausted just watching from the side lines.
The Acolyte was an interesting idea, but I don't think it is working. The pacing and character development have not been successful. Too many new characters for such a short series
Hopefully we can all agree the acolyte is neither the worst nor best show ever created. There’s a lot I like about the show but I struggle at times as well. I find listening to ppl who only criticize or only praise it both exhausting. I really appreciate what Dj and Roxy had to say and their push back against the unwarranted hate. But for me that would have landed harder if at a point in this episode they talked about some of the things they don’t like about this show. Unless they don’t have anything to criticize. In which case I guess talking about why you have no notes for the show would be an interesting topic to explore as well
Agatha All Along looks pretty decent to me, but those Disney+ MCU shows can be a gamble. Even if it's a bad show, it should still be a fun watch for the Halloween season. What shouldn't be a gamble is the release date for Cap 4. Marvel typically does quite well on those Valentine's Day weekends, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. I'm excited as hell for that one. It feels like old school Marvel, especially with the Winter Soldier vibes. As far as The Acolyte, I haven't seen it yet, but all the controversy around it makes me want to watch it even more lol. I don't know if that's the intended effect, but it's working for me lol.
I don't think it will ever be dead because there is a certain percentage of Star Wars fans that like "being fans" of it more than they cared about what was actually going on within the universe itself. They liked Star Wars because of lunch boxes and Funko Pops. But Disney fundamentally broke the story of Star Wars with the sequels, and their shows are becoming less and less viewed. The Acolyte got roughly 1/5th the views of Season One of the Mandalorian in it's first few days. Mandalorian grew in viewership and the Acolyte has shrunk. There are also FAR more D+ subscribers now then there were when Mando Season 1 premiered. Star Wars won't die. But it is going to become a niche brand.
Whoa whoa I don’t think Star Wars is that dead yet mostly because well we still have are video games and comics right over there and you can ignore this show even exists.
Yes star wars is ruined. Leslye has quite literally broken lore in every major aspect from the original 6 movies. We can say it's not canon but they'll argue.
I respect where you guys are coming from, honestly, and sensibly. But from a logical/sensical point of view this show is very poorly written. Character motivations, massive gaps in logic, and basic point A to point B to C are fragmented and simply arent written well. Has nothing to do with people of color, gender, inclusion- simply basic storytelling and script writing is supermessy.
You're trying to present a subjective opinion as if its an objective fact. I disagree with your assertion that the writing is messy. It's ok you don't like the show, but that doesn't necessarily make that the show's fault. It may just not be for you.
@@djtalkstrash I love the themes, exploration of deeper aspects, hubris of the jedi, new witches incorporation. All of that, great ideas. However the execution of said ideas as well as storytelling/writing aspect to present in a narrative in a detailed way is messy. I suppose every opinion is subjective at the end. But I have watched hundreds of shows and know good writing when I see it. I suppose its not for me. But dont think its written very well.... Keep up the good work guys
@@djtalkstrash With all due respect I'd disagree. Yes the writing is super messy. Like for example, how did the Jedi let Quimir go while they knew, he admitted it, he was the one who gave the poison. Makes no sense. The part with Sol leaving the planet with Mae without seeing the giant symbol on her forehead, how not to laugh. And each episode is full of that kind of things, that's the problem.
I'm pretty disappointed in Acolyte. It has some interesting ideas but the execution is poor. The show feels like a rough draft. As for Star Wars, people have been saying that it's ruined for a long time. Remember when Lucas did the remasters of the OT and added all the CGI? Remember how he made Greedo shoot first? Remember how he added Vader yelling "no!" when he threw Palpatine down the shaft? Remember how much asshole fans bullied Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best because they didn't like young Anakin and Jar Jar?
You basically spent this whole podcast focusing on the hateful worst takes while saying you weren't implying anything about people who didn't like it. You never addressed one legit criticism from valid people like kristian harloff or the other hosts of jedi council.
When the only part of this show trending on SM and tiktok is how how the murderous hot guy, is the show really good? And for a show designed to be so progressive, a good goal, and the only thing coming out of is hot shirtless dude thirst traps, hows that helping
My issue with witches manipulating a seasoned Jedi, is wild to me…so basically anyone can just walk up and be powerful enough to manipulate any Jedi Master? That to me is wild, but I am glad to know there are people who enjoy this show , it isn’t for me…I am curious how the series paints itself out of the corner they are in …
Why would Jedi Sol, need to explain everything to Mae when she was present the whole time of the past events? That doesn’t make sense …How would witches with the capability to manipulate seasoned Jedi , would honestly think that the Jedi Council wouldn’t have to come down hard on them after discovering their existence…you don’t allow some group who can easily manipulate you out in the universe to be successful and multiply
If I recall it's not framed as Sol explaining the situation to Mae. It's just a flashback episode. Also, Mae would only be around for the scenes she's in, not when the Jedi are on their own. And I think the witches are trying to avoid the Jedi for that reason, that they'll be forced to abandon their practices. It also takes the entire coven to control a seasoned Jedi, the one the Mother controls earlier is specifically an apprentice. It's not presented as though they can control any Jedi at any time.
I retract my dissing Roxy's take on the first couple episodes and I'll watch it just to see what is up. Kinda don't wanna drive the numbers up and will say I will be more so bitter to star wars stuff cause I just want Ahsoka season 2 and we won't get it for like 3 years
When the complaint was “I’m not like this. You know? But when they killed off the two white characters” … I knew what the discourse was going to be about and stopped watching/listening to those platforms on the show
I do watch and enjoy the show but enjoy it like it’s a bad sitcom or b movie or fan movie. It doesn’t feel like its characters are set up and are wishy-washy. They’re way less everything is shades of gray, not black or white. Fights are fun and the only intriguing part is Qimir so far. Well acted & building mystery with fun lightsaber moves, despite not being the main character. For the record I also liked Mrs. Marvel, the Marvels & She-Hulk, though, but not all fans are monsters guys.
I'm sorry this show sucks. The writing is awful. It breaks lore in so many ways. I'm so sick of people saying it's just the "grifters" hating on the show. I give two craps about the political bs. This is not a good show. But hey its easier to blame griffters, sexy and racist. It's just not a good show.
This discussion is so important. And thank you both for not yelling. I know you wouldn’t have but I think that’s the point. There’s no attack on fandom but it does need to be dissected and re-assessed.
@@Malc230692 yeah not evil. Imo his judgment is totally clouded. I’m super interested in seeing why he’s prioritizing the twins’ safety over common sense. He’s so hell bent on keeping these kids close to him, kids who he barely knows. Does he sense a connection to them? Hopefully it’ll be addressed in the final episode
@@ioncewasmikey yes and no. He initially wanted to keep the girls close as proof that there was a vergence but grew to care for them. Not that deep of an answer but I accept it. I think it's so important to call out the haters of shows like this. Please don't be afraid of getting hate from them, the star wars to right wing pipeline is so dangerous and fan culture needs more spaces that aren't bringing them down that road. Live OSA. I support on patreon. Keep it up gang ❤
Even Grace Randolph, a staunch supporter of the acolyte, has turned in her opinion of the show based on this episode
Not Grace Randolph! I guess my opinion needs to change because hers did.

"If you don't like it don't watch it" or "not everything has to be for everybody" is very good advice that has clearly fallen on deaf ears.

The fandom has ruined Star Wars. The online reaction to The Acolyte shows that Star Wars fans only want simple stories that show the Jedi as perfect.
The Acolyte is a hard meh. Has some fun scenes, and some stuff that makes you head slap, but overall I enjoy start wars so...meh.
