Boys Don’t Cry; Love Cats; Killing an Arab; Friday Im in Love; Charlotte Sometimes; Play For Today; Just Like Heaven; Lets Go to Bed; Fire in Cairo.. . some of my favorite Cure songs off the top of my head.
Robert Smith “sounds sad.” Yeah, that’s kind of his thing. It’s a beautiful love song. Listen to it again in 30 or 40 years and these simple lyrics will move you deeply. BTW, you’ve probably heard a Muzak version of this in an elevator or department store. Kind of funny as the Cure started out as an underground band, before becoming mega-stars. Many good song suggestions in the other comments
Love Robert Smith’s voice so much ... and they were just inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year. All their songs are my favorite’s .... take your pick. 💯
The Cure, along with Bauhaus and Joy Division, are very influential post-punk bands and all emerged in '78-'79 with incredibly innovative sounds. The Cure: 'A Forest' live 1981 Werchter Festival is a good introduction.
Are you ready to go down The Cure rabbit hole? Pretty much the entire Disintegration album is amazing!! Highly recommend Fascination Street (great bass groove!), Lullaby, Pictures Of You, Burn, Just Like Heaven, A Forest, Push, Disintegration, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Friday I'm In Love. So many others... Welcome to the moody world of Robert Smith & co.!
Love The Cure you should listen to their song “A Forest” it’s an earlier song, they started out as a post punk band and are still touring I saw them live in Hyde Park and Glasgow the past couple of years, one of my favourite bands
Such a beautiful wedding gift to his wife, Mary. If you watch their introduction into music hallof fame, look at her eyes as she watches him. Pure love.
Their entire discography is all over the place. A notable comparison that most fans make is whereas “Disintegration” evokes a sense of sadness, “Pornography” from ‘82 is straight up anguish. That album and “ Seventeen Seconds” is pretty much where their sound took a dark turn. They did have quite a few pop hits but the majority of their catalog lyrically can be very deep and musically very diverse. My top 10: Charlotte Sometimes, A Night Like This, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, The Figurehead, Same Deep Water as You, Just One Kiss, Hot, Hot, Hot!!!, Fascination Street, To Wish Impossible Things, Lullaby. Take your pick. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. :)
Next to the Beatles the Cure are my next all time fave band... They musically do it all, heavy, pop, introspective, dark, sad, happy and also paint musical landscapes like no other band... Singer, songwriter, guitarist Robert Smith is one seriously talented man... 'Lovesong' I love but a terrible reflection of the Cures music, it's an oddity on the album (very poppy) the album is anything but... Songs for future consideration 'Pictures Of You', 'Lullaby', 'Juat Like Heaven'... From the album's 'Head On The Door' & 'Disintegration' every track is very nearly worthy but since their first 1978 to their most recent, I heard that a new album is in the pipeline, everyone of them has gems on it... I will repeat 'Lovesong ' was not the place to start with the Cure, if it was the first thing I heard I would not be tempted to explore further.... Good listening...

If you want to listen to something by them that’s more fun, light and upbeat, try: Friday I’m In Love, one of my personal favorites. Enjoyed your reaction!!

An Alternative Rock band from the 80s called The Church had a song that is now considered a classic called Under The Milky Way that you might find pretty amazing.. Good to see you exploring different styles and eras!
Thank you Daniel! Did you get to see the artist who performs this song, you would NEVER think it is coming out of his mouth! He is so scary looking!( Very punk) And the Adele version is also beautiful!
Rebecca, Adele's cover is so good. I think she said that it was one of her Mom's favorite songs & that's why she covered it. :) I've only heard this original & Adele's. I really like both. :)
I noticed you're wearing a TOOL tshirt. Fun fact involving Maynard: During A Perfect Circle's early touring, APC used to perform a cover of The Cure's "Lovesong" mashed up w/ lyrics from Ozzy Osbourne's "Diary of a Madman. It worked surprisingly well! I remember downloading it from Napster back in the day 😄
Ah, the dark side of the 80s/classic indie music. This is one of those bands you will cherish if you belong to those who like the aesthetics of finding beauty in sadness. The Cure are often truly sad up to depressing, occasionally even suicidal, but they have a canon of classic indie-goth tracks under their belly, and I can only encourage you to listen to some of their singles, if you have a feeling this could be your cup of tea. For a relatively easy start: "Boys Don't Cry", "Jumping Someone Elses Train" or "Close to Me", then "A Forest". "Friday I'm in Love" is one of their happiest and also truly great!
To me and his music is critical...for me I have to paint my sorrow or disappointment so I know what I'm bringing forward to give away. So it can't haunt me.
Welcome to the Cure! Their music is downbeat but the lyrics are often kind of happy! Please keep listening to them as they are really good and are an influence on a lot of alternative music today. I would suggest Friday I’m in Love or Pictures of You.
They started as post-punk, evolved into emo new wave and then more goth sounding. I first got into them when I saw a Hewlett Packard commercial that had 'Pictures of You' in it, give that song a listen please, it's one of their most popular. Another favorite of mine is 'High' which is another love song but more upbeat. For a longer, darker song try the 11 minute 'Watching Me Fall' from their "Bloodflowers" album.
Disintegration is certainly one of their peaks. (Also, you should check out Talk Talk's Happiness is Easy, from one of the great albums of the 80's, The Color of Spring.)
Everyone loves the Cure if they wrer new wavers! My favorite album by them is "Head on the Door". Check out "Push", guaranteed you will turn it up! Also, you need to check out Echo and the Bunnymen. Yes, that's a real band. Their album, Ocean Rain, is a classic. Google it and see...then listen.
For something entirely on the opposite end of the spectrum I'd suggest Burn off the soundtrack of The Crow (IMHO, the absolute best comic-book movie and movie soundtrack EVER). Oh, and on a little bit of a fun note, Robert Smith and The Cure were recurring characters in the early seasons of South Park.
Much as I like this one, I prefer Lullaby from the Disintegration album - really suggest you check that one out. Think you'll enjoy it more and a bit more to look at re the lyrics :-)
This is as close as the Cure come to a "happy" song. It's a good intro to the band. But their most thought provoking moments come with some of their sadder, more desperate songs. A Forest, Let's Go To Bed, Fascination Street.. many more
I told you that you would love this song! I love it! I still want to know if you are interested in those 2 very contraversial videos I told you about you don't even have to put them on your channel but you can watch them with your dad see what you guys think of them they are very interesting and have deep meanings! A must see!
If they have to be categorized, it'd be Post Punk. Try something upbeat like Boys Don't Cry, or Friday I'm In Love, that will get you hooked, then you'll get the deeper stuff. This is my favorite band of all time, then and still now.
I could see where "Close to You" made you think that she was putting them on a pedestal...we all do that at the beginning of love. But you say you almost get the same vibe from this but more real. I think you've never been in true, deep love before, tbh. When you find someone you truly love, this is how they make you feel. It's not putting them on a pedestal, it's being in love. When you love someone, there are many ways they make you feel and often make you feel good about yourself and them. It just comes with the territory and is why people marry and hopefully stay married. No pedestals involved. You would do anything for them. And if you lose them, your world comes crumbling down...at least for a while. I lost my fiancé to a motorcycle accident 13 years ago. When he was alive I ran through every emotion, even some of the darker ones, but he completed me (as cliché as that sounds). When I lost him, I wanted to go after him. It took a lot of support and willpower to stick it out and give it a chance to heal. And even though I'm ok now, I'm still single and probably will remain so. In my heart, I'm married to that man, no matter where he has gone. That is what love can do to you. Or at least that's what it did to me. It's different for everyone, I suppose.
Because they are all 3 from much the same time period, this post reminds me of someone saying in a comment here under your Sweet Dreams post, that they preferred The Fixx to the Eurythmics. Just my two cents: I actually loved the Fixx back then, and had 2 of their albums. (But not loved more than the Eurythmics. Not still listening to them as often.) But if you do want to hear some, you could pull out your metaphorical shovel and examine lyrics for their song One Thing Leads to Another. The song before it, Saved by Zero, I never got the meaning of until the internet came along to hand me the intended meaning. For hearing One Thing Leads to Another, I would pass on the extended version, unless you are going to do a workout. Then it's perfect.
You mentioned you liked the violin. Try Mike Scott and The Waterboys 'Pan Within'. Steve Wickham is one of the best. If you like them and history, you will love 'Red Army Blues'. Watch the live version in Germany 1993. If you were a musician, you'd be Mike Scott. Tee-hee.
Love this song - it’s been in my favorite list for sometime now - glad you enjoyed it too. I actually always thought of them as new wave or almost punk. I love the song Lullaby-very cool and you will see it’s not pop
Daniel, I would recommend listening to Friday I'm In Love, it's a happy pop song and how many Cure songs can you really say that about. There is an acoustic, unplugged version that's on their Greatest Hits that's really good too. Actually there were 2 discs, one with with the original versions and a second with unplugged versions of all 18 songs. The album Disintegration(1989) is really good but kind of dark and depressing. When it was released people joked that if you were feeling kind of down not to listen to it on Mondays or when it was raining.
I always argue that "Friday" is the exact opposite of a happy song. It's a song about someone suffering from deep, crippling depression. The upbeat tone is a deliberate, almost acerbic, contrast to that. Consider the lyrics. I don't care if Monday's blue Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too Thursday, I don't care about you It's Friday, I'm in love Monday you can fall apart Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart Oh, Thursday doesn't even start It's Friday, I'm in love Saturday, wait And Sunday always comes too late But Friday, never hesitate I don't care if Monday's black Tuesday, Wednesday, heart attack Thursday, never looking back It's Friday, I'm in love Monday you can hold your head Tuesday, Wednesday, stay in bed Or Thursday watch the walls instead It's Friday, I'm in love Saturday, wait And Sunday always comes too late But Friday, never hesitate Dressed up to the eyes It's a wonderful surprise To see your shoes and your spirits rise Throw out your frown And just smile at the sound Sleek as a shriek, spinning 'round and 'round Always take a big bite It's such a gorgeous sight To see you eat in the middle of the night You can never get enough Enough of this stuff It's Friday, I'm in love I don't care if Monday's blue Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too Thursday, I don't care about you It's Friday, I'm in love Monday you can fall apart Tuesday, Wednesday, break my heart Thursday doesn't even start It's Friday, I'm in love Do-do, do-do, do-do, do Do-do, do-do, do-do, do (Oh, oh, whoa, whoa)
@@nancyandrews398 I can see why you'd feel that way about this song and I wouldn't try tell you that you're wrong. But to me it says that life is a grind and bad things happen. But after all the monotony of everyday life, if you're lucky enough to have somebody to care about then life is OK. Robert Smith told Spin Magazine that it is a dumb pop song, but it's quite excellent actually because it's so absurd, it's so out of character - very optimistic and really out there in happy land. It's nice to get that counterbalance. I would have to agree, it's a catchy and upbeat pop song that's not your typical Cure song.
I was thinking, "How did I possibly miss this?" 🤔 (Because I have my notifications set to, "All.") So, I went through all of my notifications and sure enough - I was *not* notified! I find that very annoying. I wonder if that is happening to anyone else? SMH 😏
Robert Smith is the pure example of melancholia. In each happy moment he sees a future nostalgia moment in germ. PS. This is absolutely not pop rock, it's more gothic new wave if you want to put it in a genre. They are quite idiosyncrasic.

Tee-hee.
New wave music watch them live at the hall of fame they play 3 or 4 songs
Love this song - it’s been in my favorite list for sometime now - glad you enjoyed it too. I actually always thought of them as new wave or almost punk. I love the song Lullaby-very cool and you will see it’s not pop
I liked their appearance on South Park. Sounds bright. Is this remix?
I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate
I don't care if Monday's black
Tuesday, Wednesday, heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday, stay in bed
Or Thursday watch the walls instead
It's Friday, I'm in love
Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate
Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throw out your frown
And just smile at the sound
Sleek as a shriek, spinning 'round and 'round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love
I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday, break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
Do-do, do-do, do-do, do
Do-do, do-do, do-do, do
(Oh, oh, whoa, whoa)
May I suggest “Just Like Heaven “ ??
Great choice, I love this song. Might i suggest Just Like Heaven. I think it is even a better love song than this one. Its Pop magic.
I was thinking, "How did I possibly miss this?" 🤔 (Because I have my notifications set to, "All.") So, I went through all of my notifications and sure enough - I was *not* notified! I find that very annoying. I wonder if that is happening to anyone else? SMH 😏
Checkout out the cures, disintegration from the disintegration album...
Tori Amos would be an interesting review. Great video, as always. Thanks.
Robert Smith is the pure example of melancholia. In each happy moment he sees a future nostalgia moment in germ. PS. This is absolutely not pop rock, it's more gothic new wave if you want to put it in a genre. They are quite idiosyncrasic.
Fascination Street
Good pick to review
This is the godfathers of Emo Goth father's I should say the cure birthed Goth
The band 311 did a cover to this that I thought was the better version. I'd love to see you do a comparison
He wrote the song for his wife.
You should do a reaction to The Cure - Just Like Heaven.
Three Imaginary Boys is also a great choice.
This is pure goth fiy
Adele did a great cover of this, it was really good 👍
dancing music ty
Agnostic Front and Sick of it All
This is “goth rock”!
It was actually considered punk/new wave IN the 80’s
Great song. But very simple lyrics.
Strange song strange voice, sounds like someone who’s alone in his room not having a good day
Basically the concept of The Cure :-)
@@murdockreviews K I see, I haven’t really got into dark sad type songs yet, at fifteen I’ve never had my heart broken and I’m kinda happy wiv myself and the world I live in but I do get it now 👍
Adele covered Lovesong
Every song…
Not really pop rock....Goth or alternative, maybe new wave.
Robert Smith gets bored too easily to ever stay in one genre.
Please play Punishment by Biohazard
311 does this as a cover and is better in my opinion
The cure pop rock? Are you kidding?
This is the only good song in disintegration album. Lesson to Pornography, 17 seconds, Faith, boys don’t cry
Not my jam.
I'm also doing Master of Puppets tonight if that interests you:)
@@DiconDissectionalReactions I'm good as long as it's not the Smiths. Yuck.
@@DiconDissectionalReactions As much as I love The Cure, also big Metallica fan
James......why even comment then? This song is one that defined the 80's.
@@carlgibbons5777 ...in '89 would more define 90s Cure. Sorry James, you need more jam.
