  • The Escape has been the goto for people who want a compact SUV from Ford. For 2022 there is a trim for people who want to maximize their fuel savings. On the outside of the Escape PHEV Titanium you will find a unique grill, optional wheels, and panoramic sunroof. On the inside you will be greeted by an 8in infotainment system, digital dash and comfortable seating. Under the hood is a 2.5L inline-4 paired with (2) electric motors to produce 221HP & mated to a CVT. Is the 2022 Ford Escape a BETTER plug-in hybrid than a Toyota RAV4 Prime?

$48k for an Escape!! Madre de Dios. These were once consumer budget friendly vehicles, now the manufactures are just pulling MSRPs out the rear these days.

I got the base version (SE trim) of the plug-in Escape. Last year I found a dealer that willing to offer MSRP if placing factory order with them. So I placed the order in Aug 2021, wait patiently for 6 months, got the vehicle delivered and got 2k below MSRP (about 35k with CA rebate, Ford rebate and affiliate pricing); to-date drove 1k+ miles, always charged at workplace, haven’t filled single tank since the purchase, Avg 130 mpg (because 90% of the time I just use EV-Only mode). Waiting to get 6800 back next year for the tax credit. It’s a good commuter car, only downsides are crappy interior and mediocre build quality. Overall pretty happy with the purchase and effectively running it as 40 mile range EV and 400+ mile range hybrid if needed.

If you order the Titanium Premium package it comes with the heads up display. Mine came in at just under $43K msrp and I opted to not have the panoramic roof. And I’m 6’3” 290#. I ordered a Toyota RAV4 Prime in January 2020 and I waited 16 months and decided to get a refund of my deposit. Then I decided to order a Ford Escape PHEV. I was given a delivery date and VIN. Then Ford canceled my order. I think it was due to the European version called the Kuga catching fire. I finally found a RAV4 Prime XSE for sale in San Diego at $5,000 over MSRP. I'm happy that I waited so long for what I really wanted. I'm getting 50-52-miles per charge.

so many responses are out of touch with why you even buy a plugin hybrid. first, I have been a very loyal Toyota buyer. second all who say things about the power or the speed up to 60 miles probably don't own one. so, lets talk about why I bought the ford escape. It has awesome fuel efficiency. plus you plug it into a level 2 charger and it charges in 3 hours. the guy doing the review failed to mention that the charger that comes with it takes 11 hours. some of you say rav4 prime where are you getting it? When you do find it its at thousands over Toyota's list price. I did buy the titanium trim, but I paid less than 42,000. I wasn't willing to pay 15,000 dollars more for a Rav 4 prime. just so you know I traded in a Toyota Highlander 2022 for the Ford Escape and I couldn't be happier. Dont believe me you can watch my video about doing it.

We did have a HUD option and it works pretty good. We also paid $150 extra for the spare tire option so the battery is not in the back like in this video.
It is expensive but don’t forget about all the rebates you get. $7500 federal tax rebate and almost $3500 rebates in California.

***not a CVT. Ford call it an "eCVT," but they're completely different. It's actually a planetary gearbox, so for people who have compared the sequential gearbox in the Hyundai Tucson with the CVT in the RAV4, the eCVT isn't comparable to either. It's a good transmission though, in equal conditions the Escape does 0-60 about a second faster than the Tucson even though the Tucson has 40 more horsepower.

So I think that both are decent rides, however, I don’t love the RAV4. I think that the finishes and paint are sub par. The power plant is decent on the Toyota, but Ford has come a long ways.

My father in law has the mitsushitty outlander PHEV. He loves it as he got it at a steal from his former boss before he retired. Sadly the condo corporation and the company that owns the building where I work won’t install charging stations, so EVs and PHEVs are a no go.

Hey Joe and Lori, and also the Raiti's Rides family, how are y'all doing today? 😅
Thanks about this review about the Aston Martin DBX *cough* sorry I mean Ford Escape (or did I 🤨).
Anyways Ford had a habit of copying Aston Martin (because Ford used to own Aston Martin), but anyways the Ford Escape is a good looking compact crossover SUV.
Now this compact crossover SUV have good technology and have been on this "new" fourth generation (2020-present), plus it have 200hp (average) and gets around 32 mpg.
Now main question is would you get the Ford Bronco sport or this Ford Escape. Or what compact crossover SUV would you choose?

Taking overall reliability completely out of the equation, I seriously doubt Ford will build a hybrid powertrain that will last as long as a Toyota on the original battery. That’s something to seriously consider if you’re going to keep this for a long time.

Thanks for the great video; we're contemplating buying an Escape plugin hybrid next year and you provided great insights to help us.
Do you know if the front sensor affects the speed when in cruise control? It would be nice if it slows the car down when needed :-)
Also, regarding the brake coach, what it's really doing is telling you how much you *didn't* use the traditional breaks. It's amazing how long brake pads/disc last when you primarily use regen breaking. We have a 2013 plugin Ford Cmax with over 110,000 miles on it, and still plenty of life on the pads/discs! We'll probably never have to change them.

It really depends on what interests you most. Toyota made the Rav-4 to feel like a small 4Runner. Ford made the Escape to feel like a car. Do you want to feel like your in a car or a small 4-Runner? That really decides the issue.
