Thank you!!! I went to two different mechanics who informed me that fixing my oil leak would be too expensive for the value of the bike. They told me to just pay attention to the oil levels and live with it. I didn't like that answer, and luckily found your video because other oring replacements I did didn't fox the leak. This one ring was in pretty bad shape. I did the fix myself. Wish me luck.
This is exactly where mine is leaking, Idk what that little silver cap is called.. I've searched what your description says, but nothing comes up... :(
The little cap I removed is #30 on this diagram www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2006/v-star-650-silverado-xvs65atv/cylinder-head The gasket to replace is #31 on that parts list if that is your problem
@@robertkernisant8158 did you have to drain your oil or anything before doing this? Also did you apply any sealant to the gasket, or just replaced the gasket and reinstalled the tappet? I know some gaskets come with some sort of sealant for extra protection against leaks.
@@sirenz_ No, I had to do an oil change anyway, so I did it all as part of the same maintenance. Normally this should only require a gasket replacement. At most you may want to check how much oil you've lost and either top off or do your regular oil maintenance as needed. In terms of sealant all I did was finger coat the gasket with some oil same as you would with the oil filter gasket.
At the 5:16 mark into the video I showed the long 10mm offset wrench that I bought for this job. It made removal and installation much easier than it would have been otherwise. You don't need to lift the gas tank or anything else on the bike.

The part # I read in the video happened to be the O-ring for the oil filter. Same size, slightly thicker. So although I accidentally swapped the O-rings, they both worked fine. no issues.

@@cjdial92 there was a small leak...it dripped on the engine enough for me to smell it then I saw smoke. A new gasket resolved the issue.
...No oil was lost when I removed the piece that houses the gasket.
Remove the tool box way easier
