It’s amazing at how different pipes can sound depending on the bike the style of pipe and how much air the engine can push through it depending on the air filter type. This bike at idle sounds louder then my VStar 1100, but at throttle? Mine is crazy loud, so much so that you can’t ride at highway speed without hearing protection and I’m running a hyper charger , rejetted and V an H pipes. But at idle, a quiet pleasant lope.
Im sure you had lots of fun with it. Looking forward to check out any content you have on this and the current bike. (I have a 650 as well, still learning and getting all my paperwork to hit the road before the summer ends!)
So I went on craigslist, looking for my first bike since I was 17 and had a Kawi SR 650 with a custom pipes and a paint job that made me feel like fucking Easy Rider and got me laid more times than I can say. Fast forward 40 years and I buy my 2nd bike (traded in the Kawi for it ..... just kidding), a 2010 Vstar 650. I took off the tank and fenders and had a guy outside of Chicago do a boss custom paint on it. Ordered and put on the Cobra pipes (anyone of you fools who say it's better stock is just a stock type individual, and some nice leather saddle bags. Guys, I bought the bike for $2200 bucks with 9k miles on it and in great condition. The custom paint ran me $750 and pipes not much less than that. BUT! In two years I have put on a back tire and changed the oil twice. You will find a few things in common with Harleys and one thing not in common. With the custom paint, you get a lot of people who say Nice Harley, and it has the sound even with the stock pipes but especially wit the Cobras. The main thing that separates the two, other than huge price difference, is your Vstar will spend very little time in the shop. Also, as a novice, after watching a few videos, I was stripping the bike down and doing things to it myself and not having to call the shop. This Vstar is the best all around cruiser on the asphalt
Nice edits and awesome bike! Found the vid now cuz I was looking at Dragstar 650 exhaust videos I currently have a Yamaha Virago 250 which I started on and now I wanna change it and get this

with short pipes you lose airflow excavation from the piston on the exhaust stroke, and you lose horsepower check your plugs, with stock jets your bike is running rich now
@@REDGINGY Awesome man! I do like how it looks with the bars tilt downwards. The way you have it setup, it reminds me of the Cafe Style Look! I'll adjust mines and try not to slam the tank or effect the turn radius. Thanks Allot!
You may want to adjust the levers a little and when you lower the bar check for turning radius, I had to play with it a bit to be able to turn it without hitting the gas tank
I have a 2000 Yamaha v-star custom and it has all the emissions bullcrap on it was wondering what slip ons sound the best, I know I'm gonna have to re-jet
Cut 'em right after before muffler and no, did not need to secure them to the bike. Had to plug "H" connector and I wrapped the pipes with exhaust wrap!
if he drops that bike he will lose more than a finger the largest organ in your body is your SKIN, the way he is dressed he will lose most of his, from the neck down
regular exhaust sounds like weed eater, straight pipes sound horrible, get this get that, do this do that. it was all for fun bud. Not to show off or be fast just for the fun of it.
@@REDGINGY I just bought a 2008 Yamaha V Star 650 custom gloss black with the dragon tail flames & it has less the 4000 miles on it everything is stock from the factory and in excellent shape and it sounds almost like a Harley it has a sweet soft rumble to it so don't know what your talking about yours sounds like somebody is using a tomato soup can for a exhaust
I got cobra exhaust sounds just like this I love every second of it makes me feel like I’m going 150 when I’m only going 45 lol
What did you pay for the pipes. Put them on yourself?
Idk they came on there when I bought the bike
Did anyone else notice all of the grass is weedless?! This looks like Edward scissor hands neighborhood.

the engine sound at the beginning was marvelous, the fortunate son is too overused

The 650 was an overall great bike. Only problem I had with it was interstate/highway travel. It is a 5 speed so your not gonna get the best mpg.
Sane thing but have a virago 125
I have been looking to this bikes for a while and they seam really nice
Might get one next summer
Haha came back to this vid now after 8 months XD
Loving my Dragstar and yup sounds kinda the same haha
@@brianfarinha1720 its next summer, where's the bike!!!!!
bike sounds and looks great love my v star have a great day ride safe
HAHAHA the way he holds the throttle makes me everytime
Am I not suppose to hold the throttle ?
I think he means the rider doesn't roll the throttle, more pulls/twist.
Or the index and thumb hold of the throttle.
It's how Italians hold the throttle xD

Its stock exhaust without "guts"? Right? Sounds really nice.. Buying a vstar 650 in 2 months, cannot wait.
It was stock exhaust yes. No cat, just hacked off the muffler with a good ol saw saw, however, dont forget exhaust wrap.
@@REDGINGY Gonna do the same, instantly when i buy it. Sounds more like 1100~~, not 650. :D
Hey Did you adjust your mini ape handle bars down more or your just 1 really tall dude?
I adjusted those handle bars as close to the tank that I could

Thanks I'll do that.
what size jet did you use in the carbs
stock, i haven't done anything but cut the mufflers off and run 93 octane!
Are you gonna jet the carbs
at some point or another yes!
Billy Grenko use mikuni 117.5s mains and leave pilot jet stock and bump your slide needles to the 4th notch
I have a 2000 Yamaha v-star custom and it has all the emissions bullcrap on it was wondering what slip ons sound the best, I know I'm gonna have to re-jet
Hollywood Undead.... Legend.. lmao
Where did you cut the pipes and did you fix them to the side of the bike at all?
Cut 'em right after before muffler and no, did not need to secure them to the bike. Had to plug "H" connector and I wrapped the pipes with exhaust wrap!
have you had any problems with valves etc ?
zero problems with the valves!
So cutting off the mufflers isn’t a bad idea ?
Loud pipes save lives
@@REDGINGY that why I cut the mufflers off all my cars and trucks
What did you do to straight pipe the exhaust?
Sawed it off
If he drops that bike while doing that he’s gonna lose his finger and your not supposed to cover the front brake unless you are using it
if he drops that bike he will lose more than a finger
the largest organ in your body is your SKIN, the way he is dressed he will lose most of his, from the neck down
Did you end up rejetting? If so what size
Chaz Hall I did not have to rejet however I do what to do so in the future.
Did you just cut the baffles out ?
Before I got rid of this bike, it was literally just a pipe and noise
Did u re jet?
Did not need to no
I wasn't impressed by the straight pipes I think it sounds like crap you should have left the regular stock exhaust on it

This sounds exactly like my 650 VStar 😂 I know it's straight piped but idk what manufacture they are
manufacture for the exhaust? its just the regular pipes with mufflers cut off
Holland's Automotive Racing Team did u have to rejet ur carbs
@@DontTreadOnMe-ig3pc At the time of the video he didnt, but he said he had to do it eventually.
What kind of handle bars do you have on this v star?
They were the stock handle bars just tilted down
@@REDGINGY how do you tilt them down

no, thinking back on it now days. No, did not need music. Editing skills: 0/10 haha!
stop resting your fingers on the break jeez

Makes it sound like a 250....
Nahhh
If that's the sound of a 250 then I want a 250;)
Dang that's badass 250 then.
he rides like a noob. the sound is not coherent
