I’ve started drawing since watching your tutorials and yes I make so many mistakes but... I’m improving and wanted to thank you as I’m loving doing something I never considered I could do (if that makes sense) you are so down to earth and full of common sense and you nurture your watchers. Anyway thank you
I'd love to see you varnish some of your paintings when they are ready! It's always so satisfying to watch, especially when the varnish goes over dark colors.
I joined patreon today and I'm so excited to see everything you are offering. I love the way you teach. And you have helped me so much. Just wanted to say thank you for all you do
Lisa, I have been a fan of your paintings and your UA-cam channel for a while. I am new to art in general and only began painting a couple of years ago. I have yet to try one of your paintings but I recently became a patron and am still working up my confidence to try your stuff out. I have always thought your work, especially your paintings, to be stunning. I have been trying to put into words what I see in your style that is lacking in others. I think what I like so much in your art , other than your amazing talent, is the richness in your colors. They are bright and bold with out being neon. Do you attribute this to your color choice or is it more about the tonal contrast as I so often hear you say, or perhaps it's a combo of both??? Thank you for sharing your talent and I sight with us. I have learned so much just by watching you and because of your advise I have really stepped up my practicing and am getting better everyday.
When I watch your videos, I can really see where I underworked my painting and called it finished, but thinking it's bad. Though I do have a problem of overworking, and I think that's the cause of me underwork a painting. AH so complicated. Also, I better write it down somewhere about the white. My mom always tell me titanium white is better but I just don't like the opaqueness it creates... now I see, so thank you, Lisa!
I actually like slow drying of oil. It allows me to sit back and think before I rush into the next layer. It also allows me to look at the painting as it is new. Sometimes I will photo each layer and review the photo during the drying time to see the differences. :D
Hi Lisa I love all your videos you are fabulous and so talented. I'm going to try and use oil paint as I have previously only used watercolour pencils and polychromos. I have been watching a lot of videos about techniques and I like the idea from Jason Morgan who recommends Alkyd paints and the liquin to make a glaze. I just wondered if you have used the alkyd paints. I have just realised having watched this tutorial that by adding the liquin it makes basic oil paints dry quicker. So I'm wondering now if I should have got the Alkyd paint. I'm so confused with all the types of paints and things to add. Some videos I watched said oil paints take up to 6 months to dry which is why I thought I would go with Jason Morgan's idea as he has used them for 20 years.
Another great video Lisa, I love the way you make everything look so simple, when I know it's not. I would love to try the fredericks canvases, but they don't seem to stock them over here in Ireland. Are there any other brands you can recommend for fine detail work?
Lisa, it is so good to see your work. You did great with this, but you do great with all you do. Now, Lisa, I know you are still coming back from some major medical challenges SO PLEASE - please pace yourself. Don't try to get back to three to four videos, pod cast, live stream, and more each week. Go slow and make painting a joy and not a job. Great to see your work.; Have a great weekend.
I don't plan to do that many a week again. It was just too much editing! I'm completely changing my schedule so that I can make the videos I do make better :D
That is so great. I was a little worried before when you pushed it so much. I like the hew approach and your new videos. Great work, Lisa. Enjoy the warmer weather for the next few days. It will not be as cold.
Hi Lisa, been following your channel for several months now..learning to paint acrylics! Quick question, I noticed your using a glass pallet in your chikidee painting with oils. I’m using one with my acrylics and keep them from drying out by misting them with a small spray bottle. Seems to work ok. Wondered if I’m on the right track or if you might have any other suggestions. Thx! Learning a lot. Keep up the great art. 🙂
I use the same set up for my acrylics. I just scrape away dry paint when needed. When I want to keep the paint wet overnight when I'm not painting, I put a wet paper towel in the palette box then put the lid on that :)
Completely different topic but... I have a pad of canson pastel paper... when I was first starting out I really liked it but now it feels like I"m fighting it rather than getting anywhere with it, even knowing color theory, how to layer etc. I've kind of given up on it but at the same time... I still have all this paper. What's the best way to use tinted colored pencil paper effectively?
You are amazing 😍 How do get the paintings surface so smooth. When i do an acrylic painting the paint always comes off the canvas in like noticeable bumps. I dont mind it for some painting but the ones i want to be photo realistic i dont want that becasue i feel that it takes away from the realism.
Lovely painting. you are my favourite artist on UA-cam.............is it possible to join Patreon here from the UK ? Also have you ever painted a Mountain lion (Cougar) in oils or Acrylic on here ? as would love to see. hugs.
Yes, I'm using the same set up for acrylics. With acrylics when I want to save the paint for the next day, I put a wet paper towel in the palette then close the lid :)
I don't find that it gets overwhelming with fumes honestly. I generally keep the door closed so the fumes don't get to my bird, but in the winter I don't open windows or anything. It isn't that strong, but I do keep the lid on my palette and lid on the paint thinner when I'm not using them. There are some brands of oil paint and paint thinner that smell so strong that I would never be able to use them in this space without getting headaches.
Bob Ross oils are good for wet into wet painting (which is his style) but not for glazing as I paint. They have a tendency to lift even after dry for a week when adding glazes over them.
That is true. They take a long time to fully dry even though you use thin layers. But I love Bob Ross and I love his paint. One day I'll be that good. Lol
Hey, I have bad news!! I didn't get to go to the art studio to talk to the artist about me selling my artworks for his art studio. Because the art studio was closed :( any ideas how can I share my artworks?
I'm supposed to have a call with them to get some questions answered before I make the video but I've not heard from them so I'm not sure. I may just publish it without that info.
Lisa I truly love your art. When I started painting I would watch your time lapse painting videos for inspiration.
Hello! I’m a big fan of your videos and you’ve inspired me to really push myself with my realism. Thanks for all you do!
That's great! :D

Oh my god I absolutely love the new video format! This is so amazing!
Thanks :D
I'd love to see you varnish some of your paintings when they are ready! It's always so satisfying to watch, especially when the varnish goes over dark colors.
I know what you mean! I do need to record that, at least for instagram or FB!
Wonderful composition and beautiful outcome! Thank you for your insights and tips too. 😎👍🏿

Such great content and tips 👌, thank you.

There's no reason you can't be, just practice :)

I missed the violin in the background from the speed painting. Awesome painting.

awesome ! good job 👍
Thanks!
Acrylic brushes that have become too fanned out make great mop brushes for oils. I use an oil paint fan brush too
I don't have any THAT fanned out lol. :D
Mine are smaller brushes. I thought about trimming a large round acrylic brush down and using that
Like always your paintings are beautiful. ;)
Thank you :D
wonderful
Thank you :D

I thin the paint with either water (for acrylics) or mixing medium (for oils). I don't apply it straight as it is out of the tube :)
You must try Rosemary and Co ... You may actually want to remove your old brushes and replace all by these... They really last and maintain shape
Hello Lisa your work is amazing. Do you have a vidéo « fold in fabric painting demo « ?
lovely
Thank you :D
Lovely painting. you are my favourite artist on UA-cam.............is it possible to join Patreon here from the UK ? Also have you ever painted a Mountain lion (Cougar) in oils or Acrylic on here ? as would love to see. hugs.
Thanks! Yes, you can join from the UK. :D I don't have any mountain lion paintings but I recently took some photos so I might do one this year :)
do you use this same palette or same type of palette for acrylics?
Yes, I'm using the same set up for acrylics. With acrylics when I want to save the paint for the next day, I put a wet paper towel in the palette then close the lid :)
So good we can see your palette work. :) Check out Rosemary & Co for brushes Lisa.
:D
Hey Lisa, how do you keep your studio ventilated when you oil paint?
I don't find that it gets overwhelming with fumes honestly. I generally keep the door closed so the fumes don't get to my bird, but in the winter I don't open windows or anything. It isn't that strong, but I do keep the lid on my palette and lid on the paint thinner when I'm not using them. I was actually watching one of your older videos when you posted this one! 😂😂
:D Well here's a new one! :P
I like using Bob Ross oil paint and I never use any mixing medium. Should I?
Bob Ross oils are good for wet into wet painting (which is his style) but not for glazing as I paint. They have a tendency to lift even after dry for a week when adding glazes over them.
That is true. They take a long time to fully dry even though you use thin layers. But I love Bob Ross and I love his paint. One day I'll be that good. Lol

ua-cam.com/video/AU6-9y_42rM/v-deo.html
kool! Thanks your just a wealth of info. Ive never missed a video! From the very beginning!
What is in the middle of your pallet?
Arlene Shermam Liquin Original by Winsor and Newton - its her mixing medium.
Wonder from where an Indian can get supplies that u mentioned...
Do wood burnings
Hey Lisa, wheres the marco renoir video
I'm supposed to have a call with them to get some questions answered before I make the video but I've not heard from them so I'm not sure. I may just publish it without that info.
thats pretty rude of them, lol omg u have no idea how much i love ur artwork! it may sound crazy but i watch at least 7 videos from u a day
It always bugs me when I can see the edges of the wood pressing against the back of the canvas. It's too bad it's not beveled enough.
Yeah I prefer the beveled ones too. The convexo canvases are beveled :D
hey!
hi!
