    I've had the 709 for a year. From Brownell"s it was only $170 and free shipping. With various ammo, mixed together in the mag sometimes, not one failure yet.
    10000 rounds? That's a lot of shooting. You must be rich.

    The 709 slim as well as the other taurus pistols with the safety key hole can be put into double action mode and carried that way. All you do is "lock the gun" with the key, press the trigger and then unlock it. I've been carrying mine this way for a long time. In conclusion it would be considered single/double action. ;-)

    Very thorough video...It was obvious the slim wasn't gonna take gold bc of your love for the shield but that didn't take away from the vid... wonder how yours could be so far off on zero?...first shots from mine out of the box were dead nuts at 10-12 yards and I dont shoot pistols much at all... I put 8 of them in circle the size of w tangerine...I fell in love with it after first mag...but it is a little quirky on the trigger pull but I've learned to like it alot actually... feels less likely to pull a shot bc how far back it is for me

    I dont know why you just contradicted yourself but being a ammorer I can answer your debate. Any gun than can be shot in double and single action makes it a double/single action gun. Since you do not have a de cocker on the 709, means it is double strike capable only and can't be carried in double action. But it still does both actions making it d/s action.

  • @jameslong4929

    I bought this when it first came out and had multiple problems with it. Traded it quick. Loved the feel and design. It gave me issues with light primer strikes and trigger reset. It was real buggy. Same problems with accuracy as yours, all over the place. I chalked that up to a problem of consistency in the firing mechanism given the frequency of light primer strikes. I've been debating picking up one of the 2017 models since I liked the gun otherwise so much.

    Good to see someone on UA-cam under stand that the 709 is a single action gun. I got into a big argument with another channel about it. I've argued with a couple channels about it. The problem is people watch these videos and the Believe it, that's Dangerous. The guy I got into the big argument with actually said. This gun doesn't need a safety because it's double action.

    • @Theywaswrong
      @Theywaswrong 4 роки тому

      Double action if a round fails. If the second trigger pull also fails, rack and eject. So I guess it can be argued either way. I consider it double action.

      @barryfields2964 4 роки тому

      Rick Jones I’m talking about normal operation. If you ran out of ammo and you threw it at somebody I guess you could call it a rock. But it’s not a rock, it’s a single action pistol.

    i have to go with the 709 slim . This fire arm is amazing great gun. I have the 2017 model also have own it for a year now not one issue at all . I agree with Moriver1 on what he said about the 709 slim making the test and the shield did not make it . So to anyone that is looking on getting the 709 slim get it you all would be happy with the buy . I also know a buddy who has the shield . His shield has jammed a couple times my 709 no jams at all .

    "Combat Accuracy" is unacceptable when you're shooting with no time limit and no stress. Simply because under stress those hits will no longer be "combat accurate" and become liabilities instead. Are those low hits just with one type of ammunition?

    The slim is very picky in terms of ammo brand and range in terms of accuracy. I find that the Golden Sabres are the most accurate IN MY PT-709 slim. Fiocchi is good for the shooting range. I will note that on the draw from IWB CCW holster, once you’re shooting beyond 21’ or 7 yards, your accuracy will begin to diminish. Yesterday I fired 100 rounds- 3yds, 5yds, 7yds, 9yds. I did my final two mags at 9yds, and missed every shot on the quick draw under the shirt with a double tap. For ME, 21’ is my maximum effective range for IWB CCW holster quick draw double tap. Of course, your mileage may vary. Other than that. I have zero issues- I DID notice when I first bought it that the shots pulled left because the spring needs to break in a little. It improves after that. Good video, sorry about the hang-ups you had- just loose up the spring & you’ll be fine.

      Only problem with my 709 is steel case stuff like the cheap Russian made ammo. No matter how much I cleaned and oiled it just didnt like it. But have used several brands of brass and no issues. I have been told anyway that steel is hard on barrels and loaders...others say its not an issue but I just dont buy it anymore. The last I had I used in my Hi Point 995TS carbine with eats anything you got.

    I have one of the older Taurus PT709s. I didn't even realize that there was a newer model with an upgrade to the extractor until I saw your video. Even so, my 709 has been completely reliable and don't ever recall a failure of any kind. The same is true with my Taurus PT111 G2... totally reliable. I'm trying to decide whether to add one of the newer 709s or a 9mm Shield to my personal inventory. I fondled a Shield in a gun store not long ago and really liked the trigger a lot.
    Also, I was wondering if you had experience with the Ruger LC9s Pro and what you thought?

    I have the ss version of the 709, I also have the shield. As much as I play with the sights on the 709, my shot placement is much like yours. It's a bit frustrating cause I want to like the gun. Until I saw your video, I wrote off the 709's shot placement as my fault. Perhaps anticipating the slightly snappier recoil. However, (lol) I found an expensive cure. It's my recent purchase of the walther p99c as. OMG ... talk about an accurate shooter!! And 10 rounds to boot! Best handgun I own. Smooth, amazing shooter. Now the only gun I care to shoot. I'll keep the 709, but only cause I wouldn't get anything for it used. I stuck a hoage rubber grip on the 709 and it helped a little. I think it's cause it helped move the trigger spacing a bit. As for the shield, I'm going to install the apex trigger kit with the stock s&w return spring as I was told by apex, it is lighter than their spring and would result in an even lighter trigger pull. Ahh... but that walther.... a dream to shoot!!!

      You gotta get over that thinking. No one is going to buy the Taurus solely on price. If they arent dependable they wouldnt sell like they are selling now. The price is justification and a consideration like anything else but most folks will still buy on reliability. I own 7 and trust them all, no problems and I can afford a Glock...but why.
