You should play River City ransom off the Nintendo LOVED that beat em up game! You can upgrade your characters abilities as well which is really cool for the time.
I think they make the Women faster to push the run away while fighting narrative & maybe didn't make her weaker so you subconsciously think your wifi is safe
*cries about not having a couple hundred pounds while standing in front of 10 grands worth of video games* LOL
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man. How about you do a retrospective on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game in a future video?
The absolute best and most technical beat em up ever created, there i said it.
Sequel please.
Please PLEASE
Amen. This game deserves more light and love.
I would rather have an added online mode.
Rivaled only by Sengoku 3.
I've been telling people about this game for yrs & feel ignored. I'm glad THGM is helping more people to wake up to this fantastic game.
Trying to put people on game (pun) is damn right jarring!
Well I'm going to check out this game tomorrow..Fight Rage Cool will try to recommend it to a friend if I find it.
I have this game fight Rage this game is awesome I played
I played this game a lot when I was younger, so nostalgic.
Yessss, this game deserves more love. It's so well designed, and even more mind-blowing knowing one guy did the music and another handled everything else. Also love the fact that this game has Third Strike parries and each character has their own unique movesets and combos.
Glad you gave this a spotlight. Yeah, one guy on the gameplay, another on the music. But you wouldn't think so when playing. The gameplay is fantastic and so is the soundtrack. I took a chance on this, knowing nothing about it and have probably played it more than sor4, or Shredder Revenge. Fantastic game ❤
Don't what's better, recruiting enemies to fight with you or having an A.I. act as a second player. This game needs a sequel.
If it gets a sequel, then they SERIOUSLY need to change the direction of the story. The whole "Yiff In Hell, Fur!@#s!" angle, plus the idea that humanity should never be held accountable for its wrongdoings idea are both things that need to be chucked into the pits of hell. If they DO make a sequel, I'd honestly want to hear the furries side of the story: how they struggle in a human-filled world, WHY they need to fight against humanity, why humanity SHOULD be held accountable for its destruction, but still show a sympathetic side to both parties. ...Instead of basically Humans=Good/Fur@#$s=Bad" with the one furry playable being a puppet for human cowardice.
I know I say a lot of negative things about stuff, but this game infuriates me on so many levels. I thought I could at LEAST stomach the horrible story as long as I played as Ricardo, but even he ended up pissing me off. Maybe if it had one more furry playable (that wasn't just an unlockable skin of the Maki knock-off) and had a COMPLETELY different story that didn't basically boil down to "We're humanity! Fuck you!" I'd be more inclined to play the game, but it's story and lore honestly infuriates me.
Ediit: Sorry for the anger. I'll be honest, I like the idea of recruiting furries to fight with you and maybe play as (eventually), but the story was a gamebreaker for me. really do hope, if they make a sequel, they take a different approach.
The problem with CPU Assist Mode is the CPU ally will often move ahead of you during crucial moments in Arcade Mode. Such as in Death Island where you gotta take it slow or when you fight the last 3 Dobermen. The CPU Assist will just move forward with the worst plan of attack. On areas like that I have to exit out and switch into Solitaire Multiplayer.
@@baalfgames5318 there is no "they" ( unless that's his pronoun) it's made by one person alone
@@baalfgames5318 Furries aren't real. Please get help for your issue.
@@baalfgames5318 it's never that serious
The graphics in Fight'N Rage are gorgeous. The developers even went out of their way to make it look like it's on an arcade cabinet's monitor.
Awesome game, somewhere between Streets of Rage 3 and Street fighter 2 mechanics wise (since you have a couple of input command and even hidden moves)
It has a bunch of unlocks, characters (including playing as any enemy character) and you can unlock CPU team mates.
The first few playthroughs will feel tough and the game is refreshingly difficult.
I often play this game with my teenage son and we love it.
It also has a great soundtrack.
Would really recommend this to any fan of beat'em ups.
I honestly found this to be a better spiritual sequel to Streets of Rage than Streets of Rage 4 was.
"When video games shifted from 2D to 3D, this is one of the genres that just didn't successfully make the jump."
God Hand and The Warriors: "Are we a joke to you?"
Yakuza, Sifu and Urban reign too. But I guess when it jumped to 3d first, it was shit.
Yeah, it’s crazy how little I see this game mentioned. With the resurgence of the genre I fully expected it to get its dues.
Glad to see a video signing its parises because I still play it regularly on a system where there I’m spoiled for choice with bangers in the genere.
The raft sequence is brutal. x.x Glad to see you take on the occasional obscurity in your retrospectives.
The raft was difficult at first but it has a really easy pattern even on Hardest & Insane. Once you figure out how and when to toss enemies The Raft is almost deathless. The stages before such as The Cave & the uneven terrain are deadiler, more so if you pick the route that has all 3. Stages like The Ocean & Death Island are really difficult on almost any setting. The Muay Thai Tsung Doo's are absurdly dangerous & faster than they appear. The fact that Death Island begins with no health pick ups is really unfair to me. On Hardest onward the Tsung Doo's and pigs will take a life or two out of you even before you get to the long haul of Death Island.
You can unlock the enemies for story mode too because there is a free mode. It's an interesting challenge to beat the game with some characters. Just thought I'd let you know since you seem to enjoy this game. I do agree this game is severely underrated and is incredibly fun. Definitely a game that is well worth it.
Glad you finally reviewed this one. This is definitely a great modern beat ‘em up, and one of the best ones
Fight'N Rage is the best beat'em up ever made. The pinnacle of the genre. The perfect culmination, built on foundation of innumerable great elements from things that came before.
If there's any bad thing about the game - it is the sad fact, that there's almost no chance I'll see anything even remotely this great again in my lifetime.
Glad to know that so many amazing BeatEmUps have to take a second place to an offensive furryphobic pile of garbage with a narcissistic story about how great humans are and how they should never be heald accountable for their actions.
@@baalfgames5318 You are also a human, no matter what your back-alley unlicensed "psychologist" tell you before he gives you the pills that make you black out for twelve hours and wake up with mysterious butt pains.

GAL will always be my favorite character.
From the opening character select screen, she shows us "the goods" ;)
Always played her every time I play this game.
Me too. Me too.
We need her complete game play
Really? Ah.i live stuff like that.
I'm still surprised how much she's showing down there while also not showing everything.😅
Glad to see you give this game a shoutout. This masterpiece of a game is easily my favourite beat em up of all time.
The combo system, the insane amount of content, the desire to wipe that smile off the Boss’ face on the continue screen. (And the time I foolishly simped for Diane shortly before she beat the living hell out of me.)
I wouldn’t say the game is underrated so much as simply overlooked. It’s flat out incredible.
Bought it for the Gal picture in steam. Play it for dozens of hours for the extremely refined gameplay. Awesome game!
Another great underrated gem of a beat'em up IMO is Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds Overdrive. I feel like it doesn't get much talk about.
I was just looking at this game for the Xbox yesterday, after this vid, I decided to go for it.
I love seeing games like this get more attention it warms my heart.
The more attention a game, like this can get the better.
Fight N Rage is maybe my favorite Beat Em Up ever. Its a fantastic game and deserves alot more love.
I think the logic behind female characters being the fastest is just that they're usually the smallest in the roster and being lighter and skinnier = more quick and agile, while likewise the bigger a character is, the slower but stronger they are.
talking about peak perfomance when all the female characters in beat em ups do backflips like a gimnast, and often are some kind of ninja
I got this game on sale for my oled switch, it’s clear this game loves cps1-2 games. I love playing it. It’s still a dam shame we don’t have final fight 2-3 on switch or other modern consoles
As an extra point, this is the only retro style game I've seen that has made an actually quite cool accurate CRT filter.
I was advocating this game for years. It is easily the best modern beat''em up out there and yes that includes Streets of rage 4. The design is simply sublime. The enemies make sense, the fighting engine is just right and beating shit up just feels great. Awesome music, great humour with all these references and greatly animated. The only thing the game needs is an add on "true" ending with a true boss. I wouldn't say no to a DLC adding a few things including a few new characters and enemies.
Jiggle physics?... SOLD! :D
🙄😒
@@druryhunter127 You won't recognize hyperbolic statement even if it'll hit you the head.😏
Definitely one of the BEST side-scrolling Beat Em Ups i've ever played.. for sure the most underrated as well, with surprisingly interesting lore.. it's just so good !!
Oh and the music in this game is a total banger !! :D
Didn't seen a lot discussion on this game, but it was one of the first game I've ever purchased on steam
This game is really overlooked seriously
😮 thumbnail is quite the view 😮
Another gem of the beat em up genre is phantom breaker battlegrounds overdrive
I'm just a minute in and 100% agree. More people need to play Fight'N Rage!
Definitely a gem that needs more love! Wonderful sprite work, great music and tons of love poured into it.
2:10 I would argue that rather than disappearing the genre just evolve into the hack and slash genre and the dinasty warriors formula which are still popular today.
This physical for this game came out around so many different physical beat em ups, it was hard to pick the best one, and I passed on Fight n Rage. The Takeover, Final Vendetta, and others were all coming out and I couldn't figure out which one I'd like best.
Luckily, I was able to get it on the yearly 2nd chance sale, and did not miss my chance that time.
It's so much more fun than Final Vendetta, and exactly what you want/expect when getting a beat em up.
Even when u look up gameplay for these games, it's hard to know if the control and feel of them are gonna be for you.
But just like I think that River City Girls is a better version of the Scott Pilgrim game, Fight n Rage is like the ultimate fan service game for 90's beat em up fans.
I picked this up a few years back and totally forgot about it after a few attempts and getting demolished. Really have to put more time in, very much a cool throw back and tons of love went into it's creation.
I got this in late 2022 and I can barely play at Insane and started to parry. Trying to beat Insane so I can try Unfair Mode. However, S Ranking Score Attack & Time Attack were some of most tediously brutal things I ever done in a game. I still need Gal S Rank Score ATK & her Black Belt.
My mother at 65 recently got into video games and honestly enjoys the beaten up games. I try to get them when ever I find them.
For her you don't need to mess with a camera and the game play is as simple to complicated as you want to make it.
your mom is awesome!
I am going to make a note to get this. That's a promise.
This channel's thumbnail game is spot on!
Absolute fire of a game. Got it on PS4 around release and thought it was so good that I later doubled down on the PC. Nice to see it being covered!
"While gameplay may be based on classic Konami Ninja Turtles games"
I don't think so. How you grapple, the strike grabs, the down up move, the desperate attack... all these lead to a Capcom pedigree. He also mentionned being a Final Fight fan during his interview with TheElectricUnderground. My best bait: Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is what he first based his game on, because of how close both gameplays are, but also the amount of easter eggs to Cadillacs is very important, more so than the Turtles (just one boss, no gameplay influence to speak of), or other Konami titles (the bar scene is an exact replica of the bar scene in Violent Storm).
There's also an undeniable inspiration from the Streets of Rage (levels, mechanics, enemy design) and Street Fighter 2 as well (moves, enemy design).
I just got this game for PS5. Weird fighting against animals but the fun factor is through the roof! I wish Final Fight gets this treatment. I love the art style. :)
thx THGM for bringing some shine to this game! I love this game its amazing
Excellent game. I bought on PS5 on SALE. Its a must buy for beat em up fans.
I love this game, I spent so much time trying to unlock the catgirl/foxgirl skins for Gal.
You finally covered it. I kept suggesting this for like a year lol well done 🎩
Thanks for finally covering this, I’ve been on this since it came out
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I LOVE this game! It's even on sale right now for PS plus members!
I love this game! Sometimes is a bit frustrating but I can’t stay mad at it.
I hope Seba will make a sequel someday to expand the story and the cliffhanger!
I forget how far in the game it is, but I’m stuck at this point where you’re on like a floating platform and you have to fight a ton of flying enemies.
Always play as Gal. I like what I like.
If you mean The Raft, you have to memorize the pattern of the landing enemies. With Gal you either run up to them & throw them off the raft or use your standing special. The kick of that attack will launch enemies clean off the platform. When it comes to flying enemies you have to get used to not leaping to your doom and wait for them to come to you. You could also defend yourself with your antiair or specials when they get close. The idea is ti grab the invincibility and save it when the swarm of bugs show up. Afterward it's the same process of memorization, throwing and punching the remaining enemies.
I feel like the most loved feature of this game is the fan service.
It’s a nice bonus at least.
This game is solid from beginning to the end, definitely underrated and glad its getting some attention on it.
Another wonderfully made video! The best em up genre is truly one of the best there is!
Man, that looks like a good game. One of those game you can just tell by looking at it.
Got it at its original launch, still enjoy it to this day.
Nice, started playing this game about a week ago. Haven't gotten al that far yet, but been loving it non the less.
Love that at the start you can choose which way to go, happens a few more times, hope it continues throughout the game.
the game has several endings, and each ending comes from a series of branches in the gameplay. some obvious, others less so.
@kageyame Yeah thanks! I discovered this myself yesterday, finished 1st play through. (Yes, on easy) will be trying to get some other endings, different routes with different characters.
You should review more Indie beat em up games
I have this on PC. This game is absolutely fucking fantastic. This is how a beat em should be. Great music, great graphics, great gameplay. Nice story too. Its bit brutal in concept, but considering the context, what would you expect in retaliation? 10/10.
I absolutely love this game. It’s my most played fighting game on my switch.
I never put much thought into the 3D equivalents of beat 'em ups. If I had to describe beat 'em ups, I would call them 2D fighting action adventurers with a high concentration of enemies, and even that's arguable depending on the game and how you wish to define those categories. One major difference when entering 3D is you can make bigger worlds with less time and memory, allowing for more physical space between enemies, which is probably why hack n' slashers differ from being labeled 3D beat 'em ups, obviously also ignoring the use of weapons in this case. In terms of game mechanics, there are plenty of 3D action games that are like beat 'em ups, but they all seem to be missing that 80s action movie vibe that these games had. It's so strange now that I have to reflect on it, because it's like first-person shooters replaced the beat 'em up when it comes to enemy concentration. You do have superhero games, but it's not the same.
I love Shredder's Revenge, and I was overjoyed by being rewarded with Casey Jones upon beating the game. But then they had to go and make two very cool characters DLC. They were worth it, but cost half the price of the game itself. Now this game on the other hand... I commend for going straight-up in-game rewarding. The currency reminds me of Marvel VS Capcom 2, where you earned points to buy characters and color skins. Even recolors are paid DLC in today's fighting games! But it goes to show that regardless of the type of game, if it's solid, unafraid to have any "class"😏and roots its reward and unlocks within itself... it's gonna sell. Just gotta get the word of mouth out, because no mainline publishers are gonna touch those jiggleys these days.
Thank you! I'm so glad someone is talking about this game! I played it a few years back and got so addicted. The combat is probably the most fun combo system of any beatemup. And so much replayability with so many paths and 50 endings! I couldn't believe how so few even knew this existed. It deserves WAY more spotlight!
I really wish more Beat 'Em Ups played like this. It's weird how TMNT SR made the specials way too strong and you spend time having to build meter for your specials. Meanwhile SOR4 characters moves so stiff that it became a big learning curve to me. I had to unlock SOR3 characters to recreate that FNR feel.
Great game, great soundtrack. I still need to pick up the platinum trophy on this one, maybe I'll put some work on that soon.
Be ready to put on work, it's not a walk in the park, "the get s with all characters in survival, score attack and time trial" will take you months do complete.
can you review Gekido?
long time fan here, love your vids :)
Streets of rage 4 ? River City Girls? TMNT? Fight n Rage is the best Beat em Ups in the last decade and noone has played it wich is a total shame
Probably because it's an offensive pile of garbage with a plot that boils down to "Yiff in hell, fur@#$s! Humans should destroy and wipeout whatever they want and lie and "offer peace" their way out of any punishment for their crimes." I'd take a game with less-polished gameplay but a harmless story over "amazing" gameplay, but an insufferable story.
Speak for yourself.
I have 2 copies...
@@Blit-X-TVLive Hiperbole, silly
I'm putting that game on my wish list. Thank you for reminding me.
The parry system in this game is awesome.
Glad you’re bringing more attention to this gem i absolutely loved this game
Played through this game so, so many times. Got so into it I even did a little bit of modding in order to make Gal look like my pfp. Absolutely awesome game and I always recommend it to anyone looking for a fast paced beat-em-up. I do sincerely hope a sequel comes out one day, as all endings seem to hint at one.
Blaze has a runners build and both Adam and Blonde dude have brawler builds, a man being strong isn't automatically making him run faster than a woman. The logic is women who move fast on games move fast because they're lithe and usually not a mass of muscles like their male counterparts.
I 100% this game recently. Absolutely the best Beat em up of all time!
Probably because there are more "really bulk men" than "really bulk woman". And as far as game balance goes. More bulk means "Slow but tankier and has higher dmg"
This leaves the woman to take the AGI role I guess.
Best beat-em-up on the market, no doubt. The only game that rivals Fight n Rage is Legend of the Double Dragon / Ultimate Double Dragon on the OpenBOR engine. None of the other beat-em-ups come close to these 2.
Fight N Rage: Made by 1 dude
Ultimate Double Dragon: Made by 1 dude
Proof that too many cooks spoil a broth.
Brilliance!! Perhaps someone can explain something that has been bothering me. I absolutely LOVE the soundtrack and have every track unlocked except the very last one in the song list. Does ANYONE know how to unlock it? I’ve done all the paths!
I am a beatemup fan since the 80s. I have had my eye on this for years but wasnt sure. This video and all the comments has convinced me to pick it up.
100% agree I give this game ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great couch play experience.
Top Hat Gaming Man, you should definitely do a video on The TakeOver! This beat 'em up was developed by Pelikan13. Also, Megan in this game is sexy.
We've been recommending this for the longest time!!!
I played this game long time ago. Looks like it's time to go back.
Let's not forget IMO.. alien vs predator beat em up. God that game kicked so much ass
Praying that AVP gets rereleased somehow some way. The last time I played it was at an arcade in the late 90s. Shame.
My man, the "basic bitch" shade thrown at the last of us 2 really got me 😂😂
Throwing shade to tlou2 was completely unnecesary, but ey, thank you for putting this game in my radar. Awesome.
Unnecesary but always welcomed!
Very surprised you or many people for that have not mentioned jitsu squad which is what people who were born in the early '80s have always dreamed of but no holds. Barred HD hand drawn side scrolling brawler I love the pixel graphics but there's nothing like HD hand drawn graphics
Do you know any fighting game characters with a dominatrix theme other than Ivy, Juri Han, Anna Williams, Whip, Sindel, Uranus, Elisabeth Blanctorche and Morrigan, Poison, Valentine, B. Jenet, I-no, Sadira and Nyotengu?
Never heard of this game, really enjoyed these old school beat ‘em ups a lot so I’ll definitely be looking to get a physical copy of this❤ thanks for the video
Great video Champ!!! Thanks for shedding light on this underrated classic!!! The Bull dude looks dope! Cheerio 🔥🥸👍
The implication of realism mattering in a genre defined by absurd physical feats is fucking hilarious.
Realistically speaking, men and women have equal odds of ever being able to fist fight their way through entire angry mobs of hardened fighters and weapon-wielding loons. That is to say, none whatsoever.
Dragons Crown. Is the best fantasy beat em up game
9:45 finally someone acknowledges what ive been feeling about most games these days.
Thank you lads for doing a review on this game. I seriously hate that its been sitting in my wish-list for way to long. Now, I can buy the game & not feel like I've been cheated. I know I could of went off of the reviews alone. Still, I've been burned too many times & the visuals didn't help the argument of the game as a whole when I first laid eyes on it. Cheers lads

14:38 I wonder if Chad Bonin also co-wrote the shout-out to Chad Bonin.
Wow i cant believe only 1 Man made this Game
Something like the big pulse was the premise for thunder cats universe inheriting the Earth from mankind
whe efectivnes of atack change when were running
COOL! that make a lot of sense, i will miss this feature in other games after playing this
Like ive said in the Steam disscusion page of the game, i would love to have a more fleshed out VS mode in this game.
Amazing game. I bought the game for the jiggle factor, but learning the hidden moves and parrying (like in 3rd Strike) at the higher difficulties really showed me a depth that I didnt expect the game to have. Very satisfying combat.
The classic Street Fighter references (Tiger Uppercut and Dudleys Cross-Counter etc) were really nice touches.
This game is way better than shredders revenge and streets of rage 4, and people talk about it way less . Thanks for making a video on it.
I never really interpreted the genre as having died out, I thought it just evolved. "Beat-em-ups" became "hack-n-slash" like the Warriors series is so definitive of. I would regard even Diablo a part of this, where all the common enemies are just fodder for you to have fun with. Old arcade games had no room for customization or deeper campaigns, so it was natural that the genre was getting loaded up with that as gaming moved along on home consoles. But I see in your excitement here that the simplicity was a big value of the classics.
