Any smaller company and that piss poor designed 30-50 series 4-wd tractors would have broke em. The idea using the tractor's engine as a main frame stress area for one of the two oscillating axles. Completely asinine. As soon as they put the engine-transmission up on rubber iso mounts, and built a heavy frame underneath it for support (Think Steiger) engine problems vanished. Surprise, surprise! I hope they gave that engineer in charge of the 30-50 series the boot without severance or retirement pay..
Yes indeed, that was the problem - can't believe that a Company with a reputation like Deere & Co would commit such a major howler, not on just one tractor range, but several ! I guess some people never learn. Such a fundamental engineering error - where have all the experienced engineers with brains gone - as you said, any other Company would be on the rails because of an error like that. Guess John Deere don't give a rats ass about quality and longevity anymore ! Living on a long ago reputation - that's all that's keeping them afloat !
955 John Deere V8 . I don’t know people are talking about Detroit’s, Cummins or Cats the engine sounds nothing like Detroit’s or Cats and Deere has used Cummins but only in-line 6 Cummins .

we have an 8850. no clue on hours, but runs 600 acres 4 times over every year. since 1998. no issues at all. ours pushes 415 hp, that motor has so much potential it isn't even funny
fat guy Mgtow you are spot on, it was the fact that the engine had to support the front end of the tractor that let them down. In the loaders and excavators they were good for tens of thousands of hours. If Deere had carried them over to the 60 and 70 series tractors with fixed frame they would have solved their own problems.
@@RJ1999x You're free to believe whatever you want, but JD doesn't give a shit what engine is in the equipment that they're selling - as long as you're buying it, not to mention getting it serviced by/purchasing maintenance & replacement parts from them. What these brands care about is market share and money; they could give a shit about dumb ego-driven bullshit like the brand of parts that they're painting company colors - JD's large square balers = green modified Kuhns, JD's newer swathers = green MacDons, JD's W330/440 'bines for Europe = green Sampo Rosenlews. Thats the product makeup of a company that's REALLY "upset" about selling you equipment under their brand that's from other manufacturers, huh? That's the product makeup of a company that's more concerned with making money and taking that much more market share in that many more product segments than is concerned with stroking their own ego...

Cats 3408 also has about 3 liters displacement on this engine

Also 455HP (Nearest rating I could find) 3408 doesn't make as much torque....Close, but it also burns more fuel by 3GPH!
