And yes, we mounted a 5 cylinder volvo engine that is normally naturally aspirated in it.. But of course we turbocharged it and ethanol converted it too :)

Looking forward to do a bigger review with this car in the future where i show you all the mods on it because it is a lot!
Plan is to make in road legal and then I will of course bring the camera out for a drive or two. :D

Got a message from the tuner 5min after i posted this video..
Final power output was 465 whp at 1,4 bar boost. Missed that in the video. 😅

So I'm going out on a limb to guess that the internals are all the same across these RN motors? Because if your taking a B5244S engine and tossing on a turbo on with that high compression and running it stock at upwards of 500bhp thats crazy.

Stock NA? is that the low power 2.4 liter? the ones with like 130hp or something? or the more powerful one with somewhere around 200? I never remember the exact numbers on these engines.
Or as it says T5, did the T5 come with a 2.4 NA? I thought those were 2.0 turbo using the same engine as the 180hp one?
I'm finding out I don't know much about the 5cyl Volvo engines.
The engine (b5244s) is naturally aspirated, 2.4 liter and have 142-168hp depending on if the engine has VVT or not.
This type of modular volvo engines comes in a bunch of different variants (check wikipedia for "volvo modular engine"), but people usually call them T4, T5 or T6.

One of my favorite projects. I am also looking for a rwd T5 project. Just can‘t decide between E30, E36 or making a 850 (and use a AWD rear axle). There was also the option of a 960, wich I already bought for this case. But this car will be sold again.
It would be interesting to know the cars weight and this from the engine alone. Just to know what it makes balancewise.
My e36 weight was 1390kg with full interior when i regeistrated with t5 engine 😁

Did you use a connector-plate to mount the engine to the gearbox? Turbo spec?
We used a bmw gearbox with a volvo flange welded to the bellhouse.
It is a Garrett TA34, don't remember the full spec on it though. Hope that helps a bit 👍
Quick question, did you use original thermostat housing the part which bolts to the head? It is fouling on the v50 manifold I bought 🤦♂️

1:01 I have a question: Is it possible to push engine even more into the car/front window? So only one (or none) cylinders will be before struts, which gives better handling/balance to the car.

1. Yes, correct. Fullt stock internals on this one. Crazy price/performance as you say. I think we bought this engine for 400 dollars or something similar. 👍
2. Not without bringing out the angle grinder.
But if you do you could of course get the enginer further back. But that would also increase working time when you want to do some basic service and maintenance.
Getting the engine far back is cool, but when you have to work with it at the race track it sucks 😅
@@dynochannel Many thanks for reply! Also I'm shocked that this engine can handle that much power, I always thought that only the 2.3 T5 or 2.5 T5 version is able to do 400+ HP. Also I got one last thing to ask about engine, was the deck closed? Or it is open deck like in stock block?

@@NieJestemzPolskiPL not sure what you mean by closed/open deck, but the engine is completely stock internals. 👍
@@dynochannel Right I didn't explained my self well. I meant something like "Elevate Performance Engine Sleeves" or a plate that is beetween sleeves and engine block. Both of those methods helps maintain reability of engine at high boost aplication/high engine power. I heard that sleeves in 2.5's T5 like to crack at high boost (most likely around 400hp), and those two methods above help to get rid of that.

I think I've just found what engine I'm putting in my e36!! Any chance could you tell me did the engine originally have a plastic intake going over the engine? Also what flywheel and clutch did you use? Volvo flywheel and pressure plate with bmw disc perhaps? Thanks!
The intake is from another 5-cyl volvo. If I remember correctly it is from a v50. We used standard flywheel but with a audi pressure plate (Sachs 707 i believe it was).
What about the electronic throttle body?

What is the height, width and length of this engine? Thinking about doing a similar swap but can't find dimensions to check before getting the engine

The width and length was no issue since we changed from a bigger 6 cylinder engine.
But i think the volvo engine was taller.

We used a modified 960 oil pan. We saved us some time and bought one that was already modified 👍
