I'm not personally a fan of sidescrollers, but I can tell this is something really well conceptualized and that a lot of people will have a lot of fun with it!

Hah, well it sucks you had to redesign a lot of your game, BUT, you can move forward now with the knowledge that the game will be better! Loved the devlog =)

I watched the same video from GMT, and was also in agreement that at the end of the day, gameplay is the most important thing for a game. I also really liked how he kinda messed around with the various elements of his game and created constraints for the player which increased and/or varied the challenges. Good luck with your game! I haven't got to your level yet but I'm sure I'd also be easily distracted by the art elements ;)

If I remember right I used some animal crossing and the a short hike soundtrack... Idk if they are copyrighted though so I wouldn't recommend it :P

I haven't watched the GMTK video yet, but I'm going to say that's not completely right. Having good gameplay is absolutely important for having a good game. But having good art in the beginning also helps build interest in you game.

    Hi,
I am a final year university student in Music Production. One of my university modules is a collaboration project. I was wondering if you would be interested in some bespoke music to be created for your game? It would be free of charge, all I would need from you is a video of gameplay that is 2 minutes to 8 minutes long and also your cooperation in telling me what kind of music you would like.

    Kind regards,
    Callum

I actually disagree with you and mark on gameplay being the main part of every game. With great a story and atmosphere, games can still be fun and enjoy as a source of entertainment. If that wasn't true, games like To the Moon wouldn't be so popular.

I do somewhat agree, I think for most developers who want to make a successful game it's best to focus on gameplay, and it is going to be much harder to create something successful based primarily on story or art. At the end of the day, art is art and it is up to the consumers to decide if it will be popular or not.
