To car manufacturers and some high end builders: THIS is Hot Rodding! No need for 1,000+hp and bunch of turbos. THIS is real!! I need 30 minutes of driving and no talking. Music and enjoyment. Thank you sir for building this amazing Stang.
Guys who don’t know how to drive or only want to own a car to show off can’t understand how fun a naturally aspirated little sport car really is. People only care about numbers, not the actual experience of driving. I would much rather drive an rx2 with around 100 horsepower than a modern turbo’d 1000hp car all these people lust over these days. These carbuerated stangs can really only hope for around 400hp NA with an upgrade block and every possible race upgrade to the motor, and they are still way more simple and fun than a hellcat or a Supra. Then there’s also how much power is actually usable… if you’re breaking traction in every gear and giving 1/10th of the throttle needed to go everywhere, it’s not as fun of a driving experience as a car with power bands, that you can wind out and go through the gears in to make fast. Straight line racing is over rated. I want a canyon carver.
@@AutotopiaLA sounds awesome. Funny when I pictured canyons in the description, I pictured New Zealand tight roads.-These are almost superhighways where I come from.!
Jay Leno talks about that all the time. When a car is set up right with the right power and weight balance, it's more fun to drive than something with too much power.
I REALLY like this man's attitude, and how the car clearly looks like he drives the absolute snot out of it. Props to him for actually enjoying his car!
@@AutotopiaLA Amen to that, man! I aspire to one day have my own version of my dream car, and essentially be pretty much like him with it lol. Take it on a spirited back road drive or a road trip every once in a while! To her, that’s just a show car. Oh well!
This reminds me of my first true build I ever did in 1976. I started with a 1965 Mustang coupe. Paid $400.00 for the car. 289 4sp. Took an article from Hot Rod magazine on a strip/street 289 build to my local engine builder and said built that exact motor. HR claimed the motor as built would produce 425hp+- on premium fuel. Had the T&C top loader completely rebuilt and upgraded the clutch and shifter. Added a 9" with 4.11 gears. Pistons were 12.5/1 comp, roller cam, Holley 750cfm dbl pump on an Edlebrock hi-rise. Gutted everything I could out of the car to save weight. Added a roll bar, upgraded the brakes and suspinsion. Painted it Candy Apple Red. Only got one ticket over the next two years. Best 1/4 time slip was around 11.8 on Super Stock M50/15's smoking the tires the whole way. The car looked great and sounded better. So much fun to drive. Actually met my future wife at the drag strip while racing it one weekend in 1976. Still have the wife. Car is long gone but what great memories. I put my headphones on and listened to Daves car pulling gears, close my eyes and am transported back in time. THANK YOU
Being a classic car fan, the mustang is impeccable and sounds great. The exhaust sound is way different from anything ive heard. Sounds like a racecar.
Carroll Shelby would be proud... love the original look, rough, and road ready....straight up street machine. car is badass, not a ford guy either.. but this exact combo is perfect. this is what people fell in love with back in the day

I love this guy, he would have been my best friend back in the sixties. I've had several small block fords including a 65 mustang hardtop. Great fun. The young guys have missed so much in the past 50 years.
This is the way to build a classic car. I love cars like this that are not show cars and you don't mind taking it out and having fun with it. My wife's uncle has a 70' mustang with a 302 that he put a modern 5 speed in. It's nothing fancy and he daily drives it, no concern for getting it dirty.

By far the best car/owner duo. That car is an extension of that owners personality and character. Love that fact that he drives it like beast because thats what they are for, show cars are cool but this man his making life-long memories
The idea that this car is driven for fun and not to be pampered in anyway is the best......I wish there were more cars out there like this one.....this car wants to be driven hard......what a gem!

I love the fact he drives it like a sports car and makes it work. His attitude is like ehhh.. if it breaks I'll fix it and drive it some more. Awesome. Just awesome.
What a unique, high strung beastly sound that car makes. I love the fact he builds his cars to drive the piss out of them as intended. Whether it's all motor or boosted, small or big block, 500 or 1000 HP +, owners that truly understand how to drive their cars is a treat our senses as viewers.
The exhaust note of the last engine was beyond amazing....this engine and exhaust note is beyond words.......sooooooo cool... I could listen to his forever!
Actually your hearing ability stop after about 30 mins in a car like this without hearing protection, wear ear plugs because you can still enjoy the sound but you won't damage your ears
There have been some amazing cars on this channel over the years. This is hands down my favorite one. The guy is just enjoying this machine. I love what he does with it. This car deserves to be driven this way. There are enough restored garage queens out there already.
there should be an ASMR video or something of the sound of this car, i almost cried listening to how intoxicating and addictive this car sounds, i own a 16 Shelby GT350 and fell in love with how it sounds and i cant drive it like a normal human because of how intoxicating and addictive it is, until i heard this, and now i feel like this is the best sounding V8 i have ever heard, i am a proper gear head and been around all sorts of muscle cars, exotics and owned quite a few of them, this single handedly took the win for me, much respect to the owner and Autopia for showing us this car
Technically it's a 302 because 302's and 289's are the same block(4.00in bore) The pistons/rods/crankshaft are what separate them cubic inch wise. This guy just put a 302 rotating assembly in this block so now it's a 302.
Didn't he say that it's a 360? That the builders dynod other 360s and made 550 to 600hp. They're not revving high enough for the math on a 4.8l, but 5.8l at 560 to 600hp with that kind of RPM makes more sense.
This is by far my favorite car you have ever shot. Super cool dude and the car is freakin bad ass. If I could pick one guy to take me for a ride it would be him. It’s just a simple beast
You were right, this car is wicked, it's bold, it's raw, it's wild... It cannot be more Mustang than this one, it's a reference. Haven't really seen many vids I felt the need to comment on, but this one rocks! I'm building up a first gen supercharged Mini Cooper I bought from my best friend and just hearing things like, "it's not a showcar" and seeing the wear and evidence of actually being driven really inspires me! Cars like this deserve to be featured like this, and keep the motivation up for guys like me who have a bit of an older car, and are trying their best to make it their own. It's not just about smiles per mile, rather, its personal worth to you and how you best connect with the beast you've built!
Since the first reveal ive been a fan. All the cars and truck on here are superb, but this mustang has to be my favorite. You can literally see the soul of that car. And the owner drives it the way the car wants it to.
I’ve always loved Dave’s personality. Seen him being interviewed before. Dave drives the balls off the car and brings the sound of hell coming down the road!
Absolutely one of my favorite cars you’ve ever shot, and just in general, building a 65’ 350R clone, that I’m drawing so much inspiration from Dave’s car, I’ve got a 67’ cougar with a tunnel port 427 side oiler and a 4spd that would be good company for Dave’s car.
Turned on notifications because of this video , love your videos but this was well done. Real car guy no smoke and mirrors here is my car, I did it myself , trial and error , big ford fan and great Q & A in his own garage. No crazy editing just simple and raw. And great questions lined up for him you can tell they both know their car knowledge and they both care for cars heavily!
Holy crap that resonant sound at 6K and up is just a gorgeous harmony of automotive accomplishment. Gives me goose bumps over and over again just hearing it. I'm a GM guy but have to admit that this Ford is probably just about the best sounding V8 I've ever heard.
I absolutely love this car and the cool drive it like you stole it owner. I've got a 65 fastback 302, top loader and 9". If I can get it to sound like that it would be perfect. I'm curious about the solid roller cam and lifters. What brand and does it require any mods to the block or heads other than the obvious beefed up valve train?
rewatched cant help it!! The sound of a proper high compression solid lifter cammed engine is unmistakeable. One hell of an audio sountrack, grew up with guys 10-15 yrs older and you saw builds similar with serious st racers. This never gets old! High strung idling, peaky snappy engines makes for the best fun factor. Sean what kind of law does he practice?
The 13 to one compression is the secret to the sound. You need to hear a 427 dual quads with 12.5 or 13 to one and high lift cam at 7,000 RPM. Worst mistake of my life, selling that car; it would wake up people a half mile away.
That gt 350 just sounds ........ Words can,t really describe it . Howls then screams. Stunning for sure , like it's turning 12 grand. love it for sure.
I would love to live near him. The sound of that engine would never get old. The only thing better would be to go to four Webber 2 barrel carbs, what a sweet sound!
Show of hands . How many guys out there writing down all the info of the build , and started your mustang search . Thank god i clicked this vid . Great car great sound great everything . Love the owners attitude and the fact it’s not a trailer queen.
I love seeing a high reving 289 instead of someone else swapping in something massive, and I love seeing a dude who doesn't care that the car doesn't look perfectly pristine. Bro just wants to drive the car and have fun.
Sounds absolutely amazing and I love how he doesn’t give a crap about the paint. It’s all about enjoying the ride! Too many people get wrapped up in perfection, this right here is what it’s all about for me.
Remember the exhaust sound from that electric cobra ….me neither, this is the experience I want to have driving in the canyons, raw and visceral. This is it !!!
Love this guy.....he's truly certifiable......thanks for giving Fords some love. Small block Fords are so neat.....been rodding them for years. You can wind a 289 or 302 until only dogs can hear them. Carroll Shelby knew what he was doing. LOL The sound of this baby sorta reminds one of a Porsche 917 at full song in a way. Shaun.....you cracked me up having the cigarette...Mustangs are better than LOVE!
Exactly!! Current build is same way. Plenty of compression nasty solid roller, manual trans deep gears. Fun just cruising along at 40 listening to that cam that still isnt smoothing out yet
I raced a 283 in my 37 Chevy Coupe years ago, it revved and sounded like this. I shifted it at 7000 RPM, believe me it is all you need for pure enjoyment. I have had blown stroked Hemis etc., but that little Revver was most Fun !
Okay Shawn, you've heard me say before that I'm not a Ford guy or a Mustang guy...HOWEVER! The Shelby cars are pretty damn cool. This happens to be my favorite Mustang to date on your channel. It's real, it's driven, it's perfect yet not perfect. Dave has a real gem here! I absolutely love this car!!!! So badass!!!

I can't stop listening. It's like heaven
I'm a Ford guy... And I really love this car..😊
Since the first reveal ive been a fan. All the cars and truck on here are superb, but this mustang has to be my favorite. You can literally see the soul of that car. And the owner drives it the way the car wants it to.
Couldn’t agree more plus Dave is about the coolest person you could ever know
@@AutotopiaLA I Can tell from way he carries himself. I can see how u 2 r friends. Good people are becoming more precious by the day.
I’ve always loved Dave’s personality. Seen him being interviewed before. Dave drives the balls off the car and brings the sound of hell coming down the road!
Dave’s the coolest
Absolutely one of my favorite cars you’ve ever shot, and just in general, building a 65’ 350R clone, that I’m drawing so much inspiration from Dave’s car, I’ve got a 67’ cougar with a tunnel port 427 side oiler and a 4spd that would be good company for Dave’s car.
This is by far my favorite car you’ve filmed. I’ve lost count how many times I have watched the original video.
Thanks for the comment here. Dave is such a cool person and this car is just a perfect pound it put it away driver!
That car is everything I want my fastback to be! That car, your guys attitudes, and love for drive are fantastic!
Holy crap that resonant sound at 6K and up is just a gorgeous harmony of automotive accomplishment. Gives me goose bumps over and over again just hearing it. I'm a GM guy but have to admit that this Ford is probably just about the best sounding V8 I've ever heard.
It’s got me smiling and I’m not even driving the car 😂
Dude. I wanna know how much it is to build that.
@@Jay-rq8wb the whole car or engine?
I absolutely love this car and the cool drive it like you stole it owner. I've got a 65 fastback 302, top loader and 9". If I can get it to sound like that it would be perfect. I'm curious about the solid roller cam and lifters. What brand and does it require any mods to the block or heads other than the obvious beefed up valve train?
@@jonpowell5860simply just a x pipe setup
rewatched cant help it!!
The X exhaust pipe! This is the secret to beautiful sound.
Yes. H pipes kill sound. So do flowmasters lol. H pipe and flowmasters is the worst combo
The 13 to one compression is the secret to the sound. You need to hear a 427 dual quads with 12.5 or 13 to one and high lift cam at 7,000 RPM. Worst mistake of my life, selling that car; it would wake up people a half mile away.
A true gearhead! Dave's a stud. This mustang looks like FUN
That gt 350 just sounds ........ Words can,t really describe it . Howls then screams. Stunning for sure , like it's turning 12 grand. love it for sure.
He said 8000 rpm
X-pipe, as well as a really drastic state of tune, is what you want if you’re after the *F.O.R.D. Sound.*
i love how even though it is cared for and in amazing condition it is still very clearly used consistently
I found myself shouting at the computer screen , my god that gorgeous sounding small block , that sound will be sadly missed one day .
Fuck these goose stepping, sieg heiling Nazis that want to take real cars away from us.
It already kind of is. To my ear, modern engines, including n/a V8s, sound a bit synthetic, if that makes sense.
lol why the hell are you yelling at your screen? Go do some pushups
@@accord_aero_rnew v8s don't sound as beefy as these small blocks.
Just love the sound and the old school build and look...no computer daily in just simple raw sound and horse power 💪😀. All the best from Denmark 🇩🇰
The sound of this thing gives me fucking chills. Hell yah brother! 🤙🏼
could imagine living next to this guy. there goes dave goin' for coffee at 2 in the morning....everyone's awake.
lol!
I would love to live near him. The sound of that engine would never get old. The only thing better would be to go to four Webber 2 barrel carbs, what a sweet sound!
The best sounding car ever shown on the channel and build pure intoxication
Show of hands . How many guys out there writing down all the info of the build , and started your mustang search . Thank god i clicked this vid . Great car great sound great everything . Love the owners attitude and the fact it’s not a trailer queen.
HELL to the YES ! ! ! ! Just got home from work, grabbed a cold snack and now THIS !
Best sounding SBF I've ever heard.
This might be my favorite car you've done yet. This dude rules
I love seeing a high reving 289 instead of someone else swapping in something massive, and I love seeing a dude who doesn't care that the car doesn't look perfectly pristine. Bro just wants to drive the car and have fun.
Love this car. It’s Raw. Screaming power. Love it
Sounds absolutely amazing and I love how he doesn’t give a crap about the paint. It’s all about enjoying the ride! Too many people get wrapped up in perfection, this right here is what it’s all about for me.
Remember the exhaust sound from that electric cobra ….me neither, this is the experience I want to have driving in the canyons, raw and visceral. This is it !!!
Best sound ever of this channel...period
Love this guy.....he's truly certifiable......thanks for giving Fords some love. Small block Fords are so neat.....been rodding them for years. You can wind a 289 or 302 until only dogs can hear them. Carroll Shelby knew what he was doing. LOL The sound of this baby sorta reminds one of a Porsche 917 at full song in a way. Shaun.....you cracked me up having the cigarette...Mustangs are better than LOVE!
gen1 chevys can do that also .At a certain rpm they get kinda quiet....ish .
That was thoroughly enjoyable. I love that sound. I love Dave's attitude. This is definitely one of your best episodes! Thank you
Thanks. Daves the coolest and his car is a special ride
Best sounding Mustang out there…yes, I’ll be that guy, and mean every word of it!!! Right on Dave, Right On!!! 🤘🏼😎
Dave’s awesome and there’s nothing like his GT350
We need more Daves in the car community. Here for good vibes, hard driving and most importantly pure fun!
Smiling,, I l love that beautiful sound and best mustang smiling
Easily the best sounding mustang I've ever heard. Never get tired of that sound. Almost sounds like a formula one racer when he's got the rpm's up.
It’s an amazing sound up in the r’s
Built small blocks remind me of two stroke motorcycles. Love the high RPM sound.
Exactly!! Current build is same way. Plenty of compression nasty solid roller, manual trans deep gears. Fun just cruising along at 40 listening to that cam that still isnt smoothing out yet
I loved the way it sounds. It sounds even better than it did before And how he hammers on it.
Dave is the absolute man! 🤟
This is what car building is truly about at it's core,it's building YOUR car out,to YOUR specifications. Sidenote: your mustang sounds incredible!!
Just a perfect car i think. Looks awesome and sounds amazing. I love the rooster walking around. Lol😂.
I raced a 283 in my 37 Chevy Coupe years ago, it revved and sounded like this. I shifted it at 7000 RPM, believe me it is all you need for pure enjoyment. I have had blown stroked Hemis etc., but that little Revver was most Fun !
The cigarette killed me! 🤣
So glad to see this car return to the channel. Such an awesome gt350 👌
Good getting to reshoot it with that new engine
Okay Shawn, you've heard me say before that I'm not a Ford guy or a Mustang guy...HOWEVER! The Shelby cars are pretty damn cool. This happens to be my favorite Mustang to date on your channel. It's real, it's driven, it's perfect yet not perfect. Dave has a real gem here! I absolutely love this car!!!! So badass!!!
Love it! Hard to not love this car and how Dave enjoys it
Absolutely my favorite car of all time. When I was a paperboy my neighbor had one brand new and I've loved it since then.
This old dude clutch kicking 2nd gear burnouts should be an aspiration for any of us.
He's not old dude! 😂
Grey hair dont mean old. I was going grey in my 20s
I'm 72 and still love hearing a high pro 289 at full RPM.
Hands down my favorite car ever, just an absolute raw example of a gt350 nothing like it
With an engine that sounds that good, who needs a audio system.
