Thanks for show this absolutely masterpiece compilation from the one of greatest Howard characters. For those who haven't read it yet, I highly recommend reading the original stories of the character by the brilliant Robert Howard. Best wishes for all, from Brazil.

This is a late comment, 'cause I wasn't going to watch this video until I had read the whole book. No spoilers of any sort for me...I was disappointed that the collection ended the way it did: just sort of petering out. There were so many Kane stories in the early issues of Savage Sword, then they just sort of stopped after they adapted all of the original stories. There was so much more potential to this character. More spooky adventures in the Black Forest. Tales of piracy on the high seas in the 1500's--the Golden Age of Piracy! The hinted at travels in the near and far-east. The never-explored days of Kane leading an army on the continent... All that potential, and yet Savage Sword just kinda forgot about him...
...Given that rant, it shouldn't come as any surprise that Kane is my favorite of R.E. Howard's characters. He was the first character I ran into in prose form, and well, the first is always kind of special. Plus, a puritan action hero, especially in that setting, is just so unique.
This cover is amazing and if not for this video I would have forgotten this was even coming out.

All the colored comics are redone by Dan Jackson specifically for this omnibus. He didn't do the original issues, so that's where the more modern palette comes from.

So glad that it will soon be out, been looking forward to that omni for ages. Always enjoyed Solomon Kane, RE Howard's version as well as Marvel's. Only ever bought one comic of DH though I got the saga volume, I think this volume looks a lot better (though I never got the Chronicles one which reprinted the colour material). The artwork looks amazing in the omnibus. Thanks for the review.

Btw Omar I owned those original issues and from what I saw those pages do look redone or touched up.
Sigh, I noticed that too, I didn't have the original artwork, but someone pointed out that it was the DC recoloring.

i had no intention of getting this till i saw this video and that art. and heard pat zircher, mike zeck, bernie wrightson, and ernie chan. ihad no idea it was mostly in black and white.

Eager to see new series with R.E.H. characters at Marvel. Kull and Slomon Kane miniseries at Dark Horse were published +10 years ago. These characters deserve the same respect as the ones from Star Wars

This looks great - will be my first time catching up on some of the backstories I read in Savage Sword back in the day. Slightly disappointed it's not got the larger eye binding - this is the first Omnibus I will buy with this different style so will be my chance to see how I get on with it.
It's the same binding as the other Conan books.
@@NearMintCondition Same as Savage Sword - but Conan the Barbarian has the older style large eye bindings so far and that's the series I'm collecting. I'm sticking with my Dark Horse trade paperbacks for the Savage Sword stuff.
Although is this an RR Donnely omnibus? I just read as much in a forum - the eye looks smaller than their usual style.

Hi Omar. As far as memory goes, Dark Horse released only 3 Solomon Kane mini series. I think that Marvel could easily incorporate those on this omnibus as bonus material. But in case they release in epic, that would be only one volume. 😎✌️
Gonna look great on the shelf next to my growing Conan collection! I don’t remember the issue number but the only S Kane book I ever had as a kid was the one in the top right corner.

I tend to get the direct edition/regular covers for these because they were the original art that belongs with the series. I did the same for all the Conan ones too and have this one on order. It looks fantastic, and I'm pleased with the quality of this one.

Marvel are sure making it difficult to choose between some of these beautiful DM and mass market covers. Think I’d opt for the Zircher cover for this release. Kinda wish they would have the final covers available when we need to place our pre-orders as some of those late tweaks swing my choices.

Gonna try to put money aside in August for the Green Arrow & Wolverine omnis coming September 2nd... But I think I spare the 50-60 bucks this'll cost me to get this bad boy.

@@NearMintCondition I was about to recommend it for "Was it Really that Bad?", but it has actually has a 6/10 on IMDB so I don't know if that qualifies.
The colors of Marvel Premiere #33-34 and for Solomon Kane #1-6 is from the Dark Horse edition, not the original issues published by Marvel. It's a strange decision that Marvel not restored this issues for this Omni.
This is correct. I prefer the new colors but it's very unusual for Marvel since they always (until now) stick with the original colors.

OMAR- regarding COLIN MACNEIL that is an interior artist you will see a lot in JUDGE DREDD, also lot of interior art by BRYAN BOLLAND ( created JUDGE DEATH, ANDERSON and HERSHY) , GLENN FABRY ( does interior by did alot more interior on SLAINE), CARLOS EZQUERRA ( main artist on most DREDD epics ( 2000ad version of major events) atleast the classic ones), CAM KENNEDY ( STAR WARS DARK EMPIRE), MIKE MCMAHON ( classic DREDD and SLAINE artist), KEVIN ONEIL ( MARSHAL LAW and LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMAN), STEVE DILLION ( at that time his art was apeing BOLLAND and RON SMITH), BRYAN TALBOT ( worked on SANDMAN comics), RON SMITH ( my personal favorite) and HENRY FLINT ( doing great job in recent DREDD epics).

@@NearMintCondition Yes the Anderson books, Restricted files, Chopper, daily Dredd and Deadman ( absolutely has to be read before case files 14 !!) are important.
My best advise is follow the Dredd reckoning blog reading list up Dredd case files 14 .
That should cover almost all the DREDD and DREDD verse related stories from 1977-1990 except:
HELLTREKKERS ( never read it but heard was bad).
And i think a single page story set in DREDD verse.

It looks like a very nice omni. I bet it needed huge work on the restoration side, but I find it hard to justify a 100 USD price.

How does it compare to "The Saga of Solomon Kane"? Because for what I've seen in the video, the order of the stories appear to be the same.
It has more of the extras than those trades did.

I know they borrowed heavily from Berserk.
It was definitely the inspiration for Vampire Hunter D, which in turn later became the inspiration for Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

Omar - quick question and late one - I see alot of this Omnibus has stuff from Savage Sword of Conan - is all of that collected in the Savage Sword of Conan Volumes such that a lot of this will be a double dip? Also - any idea when the Kull Omnibus is coming out and is that also a double dip?
The stories in here are not in the SSoC omnibus. They are just Solomon Kane stories.

The Dark Horse stuff is coming out in omnibus format later in the year, I think.

There is a lot of Savage Sword material in there. How about double dipping if you also collect the Savage omnis?
In the Savage Sword of Conan Omnis, as well the Kull stories, are not included. They only collect the Conan stuff.

(I made it into tonight's Omnibros chat late so I missed this part of the discussion:) WRT your IST shipping woes, if you can afford the extra $4 to upgrade to UPS, wherever possible I just wouldn't mess around with media mail or USPS shipping for comic orders for the rest of the foreseeable future. USPS needs all the financial support it can get right now and is fortunately only being kept afloat by the increased number of packages they've been flooded with circa the pandemic, but b/c of how badly they've been hit with recent budgetary cutbacks (resulting in shortstaffing, package delivery delays and consolidation, etc.) combined with the corrupt and anti-labor new Trumpkin Postmaster General (Louis DeJoy) who was just appointed and will almost certainly move to kneecap if not outright kill the agency per the administration's Nov. election voter suppression campaign, USPS and all of their extensions to other services are only going to be thrown into further chaos until Trump is out of office.
PS I just recently experimented with the UPS upgrade myself for all of my orders this month and these have been the results so far: The first two orders (the first with four books several years old, the second with a combo of one new release and three older titles 2/+ years old) placed on 7/3 and 7/7 only just got fulfilled as of today (17 and 13 days later, respectively), and are estimated to arrive on the 7/27. Last month my three orders shipped via media mail/USPS (one a single recent release, the second a new and older release, the third a single older release) each took two days, four days, and eight days to be processed and then each b/w 2-3 weeks to actually arrive once handed off to delivery. All this says to me that the newer the items and smaller the order the greater the likelihood of it being processed that much faster but that the actual media mail delivery times will vary wildly relative to media mail backup levels, and where one can otherwise expect UPS to deliver within a week if you live in the contiguous U.S. and within an historically efficient local distribution network.

@@NearMintCondition You're welcome, and I would plan to definitely transition to UPS for all packages within 2-3 more months because that's when USPS will start truly unraveling at the seams at least in certain parts of the country. I have no inside information but have been a diligent Trump crisis observer since the beginning of his presidential run and have been right in a lot of my predictions (including a major crisis like the pandemic occurring before the end of his term, which will be compounded by further agitations and, for example, possibly still a war declaration with Iran), and that's what the tea leaves indicate right now.
