I placed my order on Amazon immediately after finishing seeing this review. I’d rather buy comics than Nike air Jordan shoes. Thanks for reviewing Kull, I was worried about double dipping. I have just finished this.I enjoyed it but if you already have or plan to buy the Kull the Destroyer Omnibus ( which is better) be aware that there is a lot of double dipping ( about 170 pages) between the two volumes.

Ah, its been a spell since I picked up a Robert E Howard Omnibus. Which is good, because I needed a break from barbarian stories, but it will be nice to get back into things. And I will definitely be looking for the standard edition tiger cover.
Also, Omar, you should check out Xenozoic if you haven't already done so. A company called Flesk just released a hardcover collection of it, so it should fit right in with your channel. Plus, its all in black and white, to fit in with all the Savage Sword books you've reviewed.

Although I have all this material already, I'm picking this up day one. I just wish DC would pay attention to how fantasy sells and release Warlord, Arion and Arak omnis.

Hey Omar thanks for the overview. Would it be possible to mention to David to discontinue or reconsider the use of the Turkish printer Imak Offset? They’re responsible for these omnis with thin paper that results in the bleed through. I know this doesn’t bother some people but many people who would’ve otherwise purchased this omni are skipping it. Lately marvel has been using some cheap printers and I don’t know if they’ve calculated that people will buy regardless so who cares and just keep using some cheap printer to reduce costs who knows. DC quality of construction has surpassed marvel these days unfortunately. There will still be some good marvel bindings here and there like Excalibur but for the most part it’s gone downhill. It would be nice if you could bring this up to David because I really don’t know why marvel went from being the gold standard of build quality to lagging behind DC of all things.

Totally getting this! You mention Mark Pacella mimicking Liefeld. Always wondered if artists were ordered to by editorial because other artists, like Mike Manley and the great Herb Trimpe had issues where they drew like Liefeld.

Kull is an exile from Atlantis, but rules Valusia. Also, Brule did not meet Kull until he was already king. He's a Pictish ambassador. The movie's underrated.

For any Barry Smith (pre-Windsor) fans out there the few pages in this volume showing Kull of Atlantis were I think culled from a longer 20 page sequence which you can find online although I'm fairly sure they remain unlettered - there was a fair bit of nudity which would have been too much for the early years of the b/w mags but the artwork itself is amazing - you can see Barry starting to shake off the Kirby-isms and developing his own style.

I'm interested in this omni, having only read some of the King Kull issues. I'd love omnis or OHCs of the magazines in chronological order but I understand why it's broken up. Also lets people focus on only the characters they're interested in. I assume there isn't a way to read Red Sonja's early appearances short of buying single issues? I know Dynamite owns the rights to the character but I don't think they're reprinted that material?
I am much more interested in the second and third Kull book but I will get this one too.

I think is was a mistake to release the magazine material first. I feel like this is weaker than the color monthly series by the severins.

That's a matter of opinion. Speaking for myself, I actually prefer the b&w art AND SHORTER stories. They're fine if you want a quick read and don't have time to read a standard longer comic. It doesnt matter which order they come out in because I'm buying all three as soon as they drop.
man, the artwork looks absolutely *incredible* and a real mixture of styles. Some of those pin ups look nuts!
Shame about the thinner paper, the Jonathan Cape printing of Barry Windsor-Smith's 'Monsters' has paper far too thin, with lots of 'show through'. I have wondered if the Fantagraphics edition is on a heavier stock. Disappointing on an omni like this with such a high retail price.

Kinda confused. Is Kull a complete different character to Conan? I don't understand why it collects majority of random Savage Sword of Conan issues?

E. R. Cruz was a Filipino master . Guess you could tell by the beautiful line work . He did some issues of the Shadow for DC. Tony DeZuniga was his boss for a while.
Conan was more adventure . Kull was more Game of Thrones . Lots of intrigue. Conan`s first appearance was in a story called The Phoenix On The Sword which was a re-write of a Kull Story called By This Axe I Rule. Kull came first.

@@KingHador They are `70s comics & are very wordy . I was a teenager when they came out but enjoyed them, especially the late John Severin`s art. If at all possible read a digital sample some place first before investing a large sum in the Omnis. I look at these books through rose colored glasses . They were part of My youth. They may strike you differently.
Thinking about it but I have most of the material either in the originals and / or dark horse volumes. If the price drops a little bit more in the UK then I will probably get it (it is a bit steep at the moment). Bought too many omnis of late and I think I need to stop before the house collapses
It's a gorgeous book.. I'm not sure about the quality of the DH books since I don't have those to compare.
@@NearMintCondition They are definitely not as good ... truly hope that the Kull becomes a little more affordable. Not all the stories in the omni seem to be in the DH volumes 2. Loved the Conan / SK ones, so I really hope to get the Kull set. Enjoyed them when they first came out. Great video as ever
So, bought this omnibus and thus far loving it. But I see Kull has two more being released this year and I have no idea if it relates to one another. Kull the Conqueror and Kull the Destroyer. Do they have any connection (story continuity) with this omnibus?
holy crap berni wrightson early howard chaykin i was thinking of skipping this one. i read the kull stories from howard as a kid so i was thinking do i need to read the comics ? yes, yes i do. Ernie chan is terrific. is mike ploog one of the artists? btw humblebundle has 2 bundles currently a heavy metal bundle and an IDW D&D . folks that like kull might like those.
I was thinking of skipping too, then Wrightson’s name came and then Chaykin, and then Windsor-Smith!? I’m only human. I will check what those humble bundles are about. Good tip!

I assume the next kull omnis are going to be in colour. My question is, is this black and white Omni a self contained book? Because I don't know if I'm going to collect the remaining two. Omar just became my newspaper ahah
lol they are more adult oriented than the color ones. So yes, this is all the mature content and self contained.

After I saw the bleed through caused by the thin paper stock, I descided to skip this omnibus. This would annoy me a lot and for that amount of money, I expect something better. If they put our a better second printing, I will buy it in an instant

@@SAFFRONINFERNO Both series ran for 20 issues, although I don't recall if there were giant size issues or annuals, so they'll be thinner omnis so they should be a bit cheaper. I know one series came out in the 70s and the second series came out in the 80s.
Edit. One series ran for 30 issues, with a name change, and the second series ran for ten issues.

They're going too far with the paper quality with those printed in Turkey omnis (like Kurt Busiek Conan as mentionned, also Defenders...)
Now I'm hesitant at getting this, it must stop !
There should be a minimal quality level under wich omnibuses are not authorized to go and that limit has been crossed !
I want to pick this one up. So far I have the Savage Sword of Conan omnis 1,2 and 3. I want to get Savage Sword 4 also and then 5 and 6 later this year. I have passed on Solomon Kane and the Chronicles of Conan omnis. I didn't really like the Chronicles of Conan. Timothy Truman on Conan from Dark Horse was the best. I haven't looked at the new marvel Conan runs. I have nothing but contempt for disgusting SJW marvel and assume everything they put out now sucks.
