@@JBxxfreeride5 is a good number. Depending on tank size I say more if it’s a really large tank, I have 5 large ones about 8-9 inches with 2 large deamons, 5 large Severums, a medium sized flag tail and a school of 8 Boeseman’s rainbows in a 120 and the Sveni do great 👍🏼
It's really neat to see videos from so long ago to see growth progression in fish, esp with slow growing ones. Great video! Another bucket list fish of mine.
I have a pair of Red Humps in my 55. Community tank. They have spawned and I got two babies out of the spawning. Great fish and despite what I’ve heard no aggression toward other community fish in the aquarium. The cool thing I found out about red humps is that they are Mouth Brooders. When they breed they never established a territory as the female holds the eggs. 🎉😊
Great to see the progress on them. I have two sveni, two winemilleri and 4 red head tapajo. They are growing in a 20g. For a few months pending a 90 gal set up. Now set up. They are beginning to color up nicely. Beautiful fish thanks for sharing
I got a group of 5 a little over a year ago and unfortunately lost one as well. What a great fish absolutely stunning. Can't wait for the plywood tank update!
I got my group of 5 when they were maybe half an inch long fry. I've had them for 1.5 years now and they are finally getting close to 5 inches. I can't wait until they are as big as yours
Loved the video! The Geo's look amazing. Thinking of starting a tank. Like to get a 180. In Tucson and the water is very hard. I used to be able to buy already mixed salt water when I had a marine tank back in Boston. Are you able to buy fresh water bottles for the tank?
Thank you! I also have hard water/higher ph, and I’ve never had issues with geos or other South American cichlids. I’d recommend keeping things consistent and not chasing parameters
Wow! They are slow growing. I bought 7 of them in July last year. They were about 1.5" long. Now the biggest is about 7". They are in a 300 gallon tank though :)
The coloration difference between your fish probably comes down to variations between individuals. based on their size at the time of purchase and the external characteristics (not 100% reliable, only give hints) and collection activities in Brazil, they are likely a captive bred population initially from the Rio Araguaia. wild caught G sveni usually come in at 4-6 inch, and there are more collections in the Rio Araguaia compared to the Rio Parana. the two populations are the same species according to a morphological and genetic study by Benitez et al. in 2018, but apparently the Rio Parana population grows larger and show better colors. Typically it takes 1.5-2 years for eartheaters to reach their full size, while sexual maturity can be reached sooner, depending on the species 9 months to 2 years. You can attempt breeding, for some reasons they are quite popular but still not very easy to find in the US
Yep, good information here. To clarify though, I wasn’t saying mine were wild caught - they definitely are CB. Just saying that they were likely descended from geos coming from different areas
Very interesting information! I have a pair of Sveni that are also not as brightly colored, they look exactly like these Geos in the video, and I thought they were not Sveni but Abalios. they have grown to almost 10" and have started breeding, I love them, they have become the "king and queen" of my aquarium
This is crazy, mine grows super fast, from 2inch in November 2023 to 8-9 inches now in August 2024 like weeds! Only difference is mine have been living in 330 gallons since day 1.
My biggest tank is 375g. Have a few fish that I've had for years, and once they went into the 375g, they grew more. Just makes me want and need a bigger tank 🤣
Do you find with all the sand sifting, that it gets into the FX6 canisters a lot? Planning on doing a group with Sunset Gold sand mixed in with Peace Gravel sand, to try combat the sand getting into the filters too much.
I have 2 tapajos in my 75 community tank and they are the biggest problem fish I have. They destroy my plants and are insanely aggressive towards my 2 electric blue acara and my albino hecklii. When I say destroy plants they don’t just sift the roots…they grab leaves and pull it down the the veins completely shredding them. I constantly have plant matter floating in my tank.
Ok- buddy- Trying to help you and your fish out alright? What I'm saying is if you're willing to complain about your fish' behavior, you may as well attempt to understand their behavior. Why are your fish acting like that? It sounds like they are stressed and struggling to be comfortable. If you research the behavior you've stated you can come to a better understanding. Are they on gravel, are you feeding them the proper diet, is their water biologically sound? If you're unhappy with your fish, these are questions you have to ask yourself in my opinion.
My geo sveni is much darker and not showing any red shades on belly. Here is the link ua-cam.com/users/shortsKUg0TP-4Bik?si=DBetAfSmOd9teF1N Any tips you can give? Thanks!
one of my favorite cichlids
Same!
My favorite fish specie. You will always find sveni in my tanks. My advice, Get More 🤩🤩🤩
Great advice! Lol
How many would you recommend for a school

Small perk of being on UA-cam - having footage of your fish over the years! Thanks for watching 👊🏻

I’ve had two for about 1.5 years and they are the most beautiful fish that I own. I got them at 2” and they are about 5.5” now.
Very nice!

Awesome video!

Got one coming today to give geophagus a shot in my 125 sev tank.
Awesome!
Mine will hopefully be here Thursday

This is the most colourful and beautiful geophagus species. Mine are massive now. Male is almost a foot long from head to tail.
Agreed, they are beautiful!

Great looking fish. What brand is your 75 gallon tank?
Eu tenho um casal de geophagus svenii é eles acabaram de se reproduzirem. Estou muito feliz com meus bebês de svenii ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
Piękne ryby.
Jakie wymiary akwarium.?
I miss my sveni. Have a group of tapajos now though
Tapajos are great too!
Hello, is there any problem with the geophagus oscar cichlid?
Love it.
I currently have CaribSea Super Naturals Carolina Creek gravel in my 55 gallon. Will this gravel work for Geophagus Sveni? Thank you.

You said sand substrate. I have a slag substrate, and it's pretty fine. Would that work for them?
How thick is your acrylic tank ?
Yoooooo plywood aquarium !!!!!!!

Haven’t had that issue really. I did cut the intake a bit shorter so it’s not very close to the substrate, which may have helped

Weird - my group of 7 never caused any issues. Cichlids for ya I guess
Sounds like you've failed at giving them an environment to thrive. That's unfortunate, but it's not the fish's fault.
@@Uathankicks I think u don’t know what u are talking about but it’s not your parents fault they spawned u

Yep, definitely
How is the plywood tank going?
Update coming soon

Моя любимая рыба 🇷🇺
Have you checked to see if that redder one might be winemilleri? It may have been a happy accident
It’s definitely sveni

Best of luck with the new geos!
I've been watching yours for 2 years and when I started a tank they were one I had to have and the the red spot sevrums
