I went to my first TSP in 1991 and made all but five of them up to 2019, the last being 2018. It is painful to see how bad the light pollution has grown in the last five or so years. I never thought such a remote area would ever have a light pollution problem. I really miss TSP but making the 3060 mile round trip drive from Indiana has become difficult. I hope to return someday and would love to see the sky as dark as it was back in the early 1990s. Your video brought back so many memories of all the TSPs I attended and I saw many people I have become friends with over the years. Thanks for the awesome video!
Tom laskowski thanks for watching!!! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
It's finally here! Were you at the Texas Star Party this year? Do you plan to be there for 2020?
I was there.
yes, and yes.
I wish I had friends that enjoy this stuff like i do!! I am always doing this stuff all by my self.. thank you for posting this I truly love it.
ben dover we would love it if you joined us out there!!
@@DeepSkyDude it sucks because almost half my state is a bortel 1 or 2 sky's... how often do you guys have these
This party is done once a year usually at the end of April or beginning of May. There are a bunch of other parties around the country tho. There’s almost one a month I think in various places.
I am the same 😐
It was amazing to look around the frame when you were capturing satellites and noticing others in the same shot.
Also the night of May 3rd/morning of May 4th... hard to get much better than that. The seeing was AMAZING! You night vision shots then confirm that. Pretty crazy capturing that stuff in a video!
Bob Snyder agreed. Video is so hard to do at night at the NV really takes it to the next level.
When I was young I lived in a fairly rural area and I was obsessed with astronomy! I didn't know any other astronomers so I made up a group of imaginary friends who were astronomers and I would have pretend conversations with them while I observed the planets and Messier objects and so forth. There was "Carl", an elderly man who was the leader of our imaginary astronomy club/group; he was a real veteran and had expertise in almost every facet of the hobby. Carl always wore plaid shirts and had a substantial gray beard. "Nick" was about 40 years old and was the most active member of our group; he was always trying to round up the group for observing sessions and was always involved with one project or another, building telescope and observatories, etc. "James" was about 32 years old and was a really obsessive observer, always staying up later than anybody and amassing observation totals that astounded the rest of us. "Barbara" was Carl's daughter, a nice lady who wasn't all that interested in astronomy (I know, sexist, but I was ten years old, give me a break) but she always kept us supplied with snacks and did a great job with our holiday parties. "Kevin" and "Roy" were two younger guys, best friends who were always laughing about something or other and always helping with the star party stuff. "George" was an African-American gentleman who was an probably our best planetary observer; he had excellent vision and did some fantastic sketches of features on Jupiter and Mars that he created with his 6-inch refractor. "Naomi" was a hot blonde girl a few years older than me who was planning to become a professional astronomer someday. "Yoshi" was a 33-year old Japanese immigrant who was determined to discover a comet someday. There were a few others but I can't remember all of them. Again, none of these people were real, they were just imaginary friends that lived in my mind. But imaginary friends can be good friends.
Thank you very much my friend. This video is the most beautyful srtar party video on youtube. There are beautiful screens in it, example; Star Wars theme, most telescope screens, -constellations, galaksies and nebulas live vievs-, a man's and a telescope's shadow, rain drops
... It is a long and great video and I like it. Waiting your new star party videos. Bye...
N.M. Astronomi hey thanks so much!!! I appreciate the kind words and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Many more to come. Clear skies!
My local Club doesn't do much in the way of star parties, so like a few others here I do most of my viewing by myself. Wonderful video!
Atawahinta thanks so much!
I enjoyed these so much! Thanks for uploading!
Aether52 hey thanks so much!! I really appreciate you checking it out. Glad you enjoy these. I plan on keeping them going. 😀
Thank you for your video montage. I used it to my advantage. At 1:11:49 you moved your view of M13 up to NGC 6297 which is a galaxy which I have seen with many of my scopes as I have progressed through aperture fever. I was watching this with baited breath as I was hoping to study the star field with reference to the space between those two objects. While I was at the 2018 TSP and was attempting to find the small "IC" galaxy between the two (IC 4617), that I could not attempt to resolve from my less than ideal local observing sites but being in West Texas it was now within my grasp. I even asked a neighboring observer with a comparable aperture scope if he had teased it out, but he had not. And you had your camera on NGC 6207 then panned down (passing the parallelogram and barely discernible IC 4617 at 1:11:58), and back to M13! Finally I have an ideal distance to assist me the next time my endeavors under a dark sky have me in Hercules! Thank you!
Frankster Nowatzke hey that’s awesome!!! So glad I could help. My goal there was to see 6297 and at least get a quick shot of it. Worked out well! That’s awesome that it helped you know about where to go. These night vision set ups are worth it when you need to find those dim, elusive objects. 🤘😊
Thank you for taking us along
Roger Presas hey no problem! Thanks for taking the ride! 😎
I have to admit, your videos are more creative than ever.
Good work
Such a wonderful job of documenting the 2019 Texas Sky Party. Loved it Will!
Thanks so much dude! I appreciate you watching! So glad you enjoyed it!
I love this channel their needs to be more content like this on UA-cam
claustrophobic environment hey thanks so much!! I really appreciate that.
Dude I love these types of videos where they show the camps and other astronomers and there equipment, great vid thx 👍
Mighty Poopie hey thanks! That’s always been my goal with these videos was to show the behind the scenes stuff that goes on at these events. It’s a whole community that not many get to see. Thanks for watching!
Well, you've done it again, DSD!!! You've got a second career as a filmmaker if you keep this up! Thanks once again for an in-depth look at a star party most of us will not likely get to see. Makes me feel like I was, in some small way, there. Keeps me warm on these cold winter nights waiting for the star party season to come around again. Wonderful job! Hope you get as much out of making it as we do watching it!
Brian Reynolds dude thanks so much for the kind words! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! I did have a lot of fun making it and it makes me super happy that others are enjoying these. More to come soon! Thanks again!
WOW those views through the nigtht vision at m51 and the others were freaking insane! I need to look through a 24 inch dob somenight.
Nrate1 absolutely!! Join us next year!!
LOVE the "Cantina" music during chow time!!!...hilarious. Looking forward to Okie Tex video!
Keep 'em coming Dude.
Was hoping to see somebody's arm getting chopped off via lightsaber.....
Hahaha awesome. I’m so glad someone noticed it. I tried to throw in a few references to Star Wars here and there. I’m sure I’ll do more of that in the future. Thanks so much for watching! The Okie Tex video is in the works!
I love the type of shot you see at 55:34
Me too!!! When I saw him standing above us I knew I had to capture that!
Thank you so much for the video.
Ricardo Calderon Espejel thanks for watching!
Superb 💖💖💖🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!!!
Backyard astronomer here in longbeach MS, I'd absolutely love to be able to attend this.
It’s a must do event!! At least once. It’ll make your astronomy obsession even worse. At least that’s what it did for me. Hahah.
Omg that’s beyond amazing 🔥🔥🔥
kevin hey thanks so much!
Great video, learned a lot....felt like I was there on a cold winter's day in N.H., thanks
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! You gotta spend more time slumming on the lower field with the laid back bunch!
Rank Thomas you’re right. I usually spend so much time up there due to my setup being up there. I’ll make a point to move around more next year. 🤘😎
Will,
I’m moving from a 10” Dob to a larger one...perhaps the XX16G you used to have.
What are your thoughts on that scope? Did it hold collimation thru the night? Optical quality?
Love your videos and music...keep em coming!
Thanks
Mike
phelpsimagery hey Mike! You know I have to say that old 16” was a great scope. The optical quality was actually pretty darn good. It held collimation very well and was pretty easy to use. I only ever had to do a few minor modifications to it. At that price point, for what it does, I’d say it’s a decent choice. I’ve been meaning to make a video on that scope too I just haven’t found the right time. Maybe I’ll do that one soon! Good to hear from ya!
Would LOVE to see a video on that scope...and I’m sure many others would too.
Thank you Deep Sky Dude.
😂😂😂😂 wonderful start, awesome video, i really enjoyed ,thanks for sharing 🥰🥰.
Nikki Foster thanks so much! And thanks for watching!!
Deep Sky Dude i love that messier 51 video 😳🥰 was soooooo beautifulllllll
Me too!! I couldn’t believe the detail!
@@DeepSkyDude sorry, can i ask you something? if i want to spend 10000$ to 15000$ to buy a telescope, which one is your suggest to me? dobsonian telescope or compound telescope like (celestron cge pro 1400 hd computerized telescope)?
if dobsonian, which brand should i buy?
thank you ;)
Nikki Foster that’s a pretty hard question to answer actually. It really depends on what you want to do with it, how much weight you can move around and stuff like that. With that budget there are tons of options tho.
I see my stuff at 53:12. :) Why is my cover still on. lol
Bob Snyder hahaha. Maybe you were having second thoughts? 😂
Nice video! I made all but one TSP from 1991 to 2007. I have the 1991-1994 TSP slide show on my UA-cam page. I'm hoping to get the rest done to 2007 but my internet access has dropouts the past 2 years and any uploads to UA-cam gets cut off. I managed to scan about 300 film astro-images from the past and I will have some more of these in the upcoming TSP video slide shows. I hope to make some star parties in 2021 as the two I was going to got canceled. Perhaps TSP 2021? I usually make and setup crew the Okie-Tex star parties.
I can’t wait to see your photo montage! Those are always fantastic. I’ll see you in 2021 for sure!!
Do you use a special app on your phone to take the videos and pictures? Loved the M13 pics.
Andy Miller hey thanks! Nah, I don’t use anything but the stock iPhone video and picture software built in. I’ve played with other stuff but I always just go back to the stock software.
Did you really not setup your telescope? I don't know if I could go to TSP and not setup a scope.
I loved the daytime cloud shot and the falling rain around the 1:15:40 mark.
I did learn something this year. No more tent camping for me. It is too hot during the day to nap, unless your tent is under and shaded by a tree. But as you know, shade trees are scarce at the Prude Ranch. Next year I will be back in the Bunkhouse.
I did enjoy being on the lower field. Lots of room and you can park and leave your car next to your equipment.
#TSP2020
LanceMan good advice here. Tent camping can be pretty rough during the day. Thanks dude!! I’ll see ya in 2020!!
And yeah unfortunately I didn’t get around to setting up my scope. Between prepping for my talk, volunteering and shooting video it just never happened. lol. Luckily I have some awesome friends who let me light leach every night. 😂
I think you might get sued by George Lucas 😂 but a very clever intro.
jory odom hahaha. He should hire me!
Not George, Disney.
LanceMan lol, true
Nice job Will!
Thanks dude! Congrats on the art contest!
I haven't looked into this one yet but I dont go to a lot of star parties because I have a problem with their registration fees. It seems their average is $80 per person + $25 for a t-shirt + $8 per night. For me and my girl it could be upwards of $230 and thats not including gas and food. What is my registration paying for then? At least make it cheaper for the people already paying $50+ a year to be in the local astronomy club
MidwestNerd the registration fees go to the star party to keep it running and to improve its services for the attendees. The housing/camping costs always go to the land owners. They supply the fields and infrastructure(bath houses, meals, daily maintenance during the event), so your camping fees go to them. Without both, a star party simply wouldn’t work and it takes money to keep things running in our world. Star parties aren’t cheap but they’re worth every penny you spend. Life experiences can alter your perspective and last a lifetime. Not to mention the friends you’ll make going year after year. I understand some people may not be able to swing the funds but without that money being spent on the event, they simply couldn’t exist.
@@DeepSkyDude I guess I've just had bad experiences with some local star parties
At 1:35:30, did you notice the flare in the upper left corner?
Aw yeah. Tons of those in my images out there. Probably geostationary satellites.
How to video deep sky like you ?? My English is bad .😞
Which part are you asking about? I have a few methods for filming deep sky stuff. :)
Deep Sky Dude i really want to film deep sky objects like you.
Nerds.
Yup!
