  • The adventure continues again! What a fantastic week out in west Texas. The Texas Star Party was an incredible experience and one for the books. We had many observable nights and plenty of good times were had. It's hard to sum up a week long event in less than an hour but hopefully this short film will help tell the story of what we as amateur astronomers do. After TSP I had the chance to meet our friends from Australia for a night on the 100 inch Hooker Telescope. That video is coming soon! Stay tuned.
    Were you at TSP 2018? If so let me know in the comments.

    I absolutely love your star party videos. I am from a country where they are infinitely smaller affairs (still great tho). So my lifelong dream has been to attend a big one in the US. Your videos make me feel a bit of the atmosphere.

      111makica111 that’s so awesome. Thanks for the kind words! We’d love to have you at TSP or at Okie Tex. If you’re able to one day, please let me know and we can meet up! My only hope was that these videos help others to see inside an event that many have no idea is even happening. I appreciate you letting me know that it worked for ya! Clear skies!

    Awesome video! I didn't realize the gathering was had such attendance. And international, to boot! Definitely clear that a lot of work went into this compilation. I get a strange sort of writers block about fifteen or twenty minutes (play time) into larger editing projects and its hard for me to not lose sight of the forest for the trees.
    Thanks so much for sharing!!

      Hey thanks dude!! I had a lot of fun making this one. It can be hard sometimes when you know you have a huge project ahead. Lots of coffee and some cool music is all ya need to get going. I always try to take at least twice as much footage as I think I'll need too. This next video I'm working on now is going to be awesome. Can't wait to drop it. :)

    Man Dobs have come a long way since I was in San Francisco pushing porthole glass in John's classes in the 80's. And the astrophotography rigs these days WOW! Back then if you were a serious astrophotographer you had a Schaefer mount with an Astrophysics Starfire refractor or a big Newtonian with an Alika Herring mirror .. and you had to wait sometimes years to get em after you ordered .. oh and you also had a Lumicon film hypersensitizing tank 😬 Man things have changed! Watching this video brings back memories of the RTMC star parties I use to attend regularly back in the day here in So.Cal. I use to only read about the Texas Star Party in Sky&Tel way back when .. its cool to see a well made video of it all these years latter .. thanks!

      Chris Strobel wow. What an awesome comment. Hearing how the days gone by were is fantastic. I was only a child in those days. Star parties sure have changed and it’s been my mission to tell that story. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!!

      Yeah man the moon rise was my fav capture this time around. Unfortunately I didn’t capture my whole talk on camera but I did catch some and I could always do a short video on the slideshow or something. 😎

    This is why I never go to star parties. You drive for five to ten hours to sit around and watch boring presentations because of clouds...LOL

    • @DeepSkyDude
      @DeepSkyDude  6 років тому

      lol That's the game you play when you do astronomy. For me, I find the talks are some of the best parts. I've met some really cool speakers and learned a lot from their expertise. Of course we all want clear and open skies but sometimes mother nature has other plans and we must make due.

      OK, so the golden boy and I have been talking about doing something in October but not too sure what. I've been hoping to save some of my vacation time, and airline miles for a Falcon Heavy launch in September. Just learned that I need to use the time and miles for a couple of tickets in September instead. That blows October wide open for something for us three to plan out.
      Hit me up on FB.
