Making a telescope

  • Hello to all who stumble upon this video and to those who are returning to my channel.
Firstly may I say this video is not a how-to video. I've been making telescopes and musical instruments for many years. Friends who asked me to make them a custom instrument have asked me to document their builds with photos so I thought I would document the process.
So this telescope build came about by a good friend Nathan liking the telescopes I make and wanting to get into astronomy. So he commissioned me to make him a ten-inch truss tube Dobsonian.
Apologies that it's a long speedy video. It's about 60 hours work crammed into 40 minutes with set up and first light test at the end. So stick around if you can.
My methods are probably not the best, quickest or safest ways of working to achieve making a telescope. But my telescopes perform well and I've had many fantastic nights stargazing and showing other people the wonders in the night sky.
I have several other telescope related and build videos. Links are at the end of this video and in this video description below
The music in the video is one of my other projects called AstroRambler if you like what you hear. A Link is also in this video description
Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy the build If you did please subscribe to my channel and hit the bell so you get notified of future builds.

Ha! That's a good one. This guy actually taught engineering in Japan, he was one of those guys that never shuts his ass, is always right and gets near to violence if you dispute what he said. He was dying of prostate cancer, had lived (he told me) about 20 KM from Fukushima. I asked him if living near Fuku had contributed to his cancer and he told me 'no'. I didn't say anything but I just remembered who I was talking to and thot he was full of shit or very stupid. Later, after he died in January of 2019, a mutual friend told me that the fellow had confided in our mutual friend that he thot it was indeed due to living near Fuku. Des;pite this guy's assholiness, he had some interesting things to tell ;and if it was engineering related, actually quite reliable.
I didn't miss him a bit when he kikt.

Can I just say to anyone starting out in astronomy, it doesn't have to be this complicated. You can build telescopes from junk in your garage. If you have any queries regarding astronomy, then contact your local society. They'll be more than pleased to help. No local society? Then look around on the www. Its your universe. Go out and take a look. Its there for free. Try it and you won't be disappointed. And by the way Mr. Smith: thank you for making the Dobs. It always help to make things clearer.

Astrosky Dobsonian 16" /f4.47 primary and 3.16" secondary by Terry Ostahowski. Sweet scope. Still want to get an EQ platform for it for long viewing sessions and short time astrophotography. Planets, Moon, Orion nebula, globs etc.

It's very satisfying to see people creating things with their own hands. Even more satisfying and poetic when you create instruments that allow you to see beyond what your naked eyes can see. And even more when it is coupled with that beautiful music. And, again, even more satisfying when it's clear that you make those things because you enjoy doing them. So thank you and congratulations

When I saw that you made your own wooden plugs, I realized that this is not only a guy who knows his craft, this is really an artist at work! No offense but, a nice side effect of your project is that I realize I'm not the only maniac in the universe - my projects with my Ducati racer sometimes tend to pass the point where wit and sense have ceased to exist and you are driven solely by the desire to create something just for that it is possible to do :)
Once again, thank you and good luck with future projects.

NO GOD BUT GOD....What Is Islam?
Islam is not just another religion.
It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
{ “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)
Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

I have replaced the teflon blocks that allow turning in azimuth with small wheels that can only go forward backwards, and the movements in azimuth are now infinitely smoother, even at an almost microscopic level. I did another type of dobson only with square section hollow aluminum bars (the telescope also had a square section), it was extremely light and precise, and in dobson it turned much better than the wooden ones, since the weight was accumulated in the mirror, which the lever arm was much larger
