  • Is KTM 790 Adventure S different than 790 R?
    The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course: rtw-adventures.com/online-cou...
    After the test of the KTM 790 Adventure R, many of you asked about KTM 790 Adventure S. It is about the same motorcycle with few very small differences, but in reality, it behaves like a completely different bike. I was nicely supersized to find out that the dangerous wobbling on the highways is not a problem for the 790 S model.

    Great follow-up to R review 👍 I would still get the R and add swappable options like the windscreen from the S when I use R on road. R tires and front fender highway issues certainly need to be looked into.

    A quick note: One could quite easily get the seat, tires and windscreen from the standard version on the R version. One could also quite easily set up the suspension for the R to suite road riding or touring more.

  • @GerhardCombrink
    @GerhardCombrink 4 роки тому

    Glad you also reviewed the S. I actually went to have a look at them both today and was wondering whether the additional cost of the R will benefit me, but for my needs I believe the S will suit me much better. That said, I’m still doubting I’ll do nearly as much on one as I do on my Transalp after spending so much money on a bike. The nice thing about my Transalp is that it’s about having fun doing whatever I want, not whether what I do makes the bike look good or will cause a scratch, dent or void a warranty. Sure, it’s not as new, pretty or powerful, it’s suspension is no match and ground clearance is lousy, but I have no problem sanding down my steel bash plate when scraping it off road, and I don’t jump a bike loaded with my stuff while traveling anyway. Just my opinion.

    Nice and much awaited review once again. After I tested this model in May, the dealer made me an offer. The base price of the 790 S in France was and still is 12500€. The price of the Africa Twin 2018 brand new (there are 2018 models left brand new in the distribution network) was 13600. The base price of the 790 R is 13 500€ in France. Beside the fully adjustable suspension with more travel, I believe the R is delivered with the fully adjustable Rally mode, which can be purchased as optional for 790 S. About the riding position, I saw the KTM dealer adjust the saddle of the S in low position for me. With 1m76 and middle height legs, I had flat feet on the ground. Then the bike is lower and feels lighter to maneuver engine off than the Africa Twin I finally bought. I judged the Honda would be better 2-up, but who knows, as Pavlin often says ? But I also noticed on your video that the engine is really less smooth than the Honda at low rev in city traffic. It was also my own impression. Strange to see the 790 S more expensive than the R in Germany... 15k is simply too much.

    Enjoyable and fair review as always Pavlin, thank you. In UK the R model is £1000 more, so I wonder about the price you were quoted, it seems to be the wrong way around. The R has the much more expensive fully adjustable suspension. Also the S can be adjusted a little, for preload (at rear only). 👍

      Motorcycle Adventures Seems strange as it is a simpler bike, though only in suspension. Most everything else is same and/or interchangeable. Anyhow I am looking forward very much to your Tenere 700 review. The S is perfect for my height/age/needs, but I think you will be very much at home on the Yamaha. I think they watched your channel to design it. Too high for me though. 👍😁

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  4 роки тому +2

      I think that the demand determine the price. In Germany most of the clients will ride on the highways. I am sure that the Yamaha will be good. Never perfect, but good and reliable. This is what I need.

      Theres some mistake. I dont blame anyone. The regular recommended price is in Germany 12.795€ and the R Version is 13.795€. I bought the S and got it for 9990€ as it is on Sale now. The R ist not being sold cheaper, maybe a 1000€ maximum a some Dealers.

      You were correct. It's under 13k euro most everywhere for the s model . Which is also much less than the price of the R.. But 24,700 lev or bulgarian money does come out to be 15k USD. I could only find that one price for an adventure s model new in Bulgaria. 24,700 something.. at .63 lev per dollar..that's 15k USD. Way higher than our price of $12,600 or whatever.

    Great review Pavlin. I've tested the 790 S the same day you uploaded this video. I need a motorcycle for shorter trips, little offload and ability the ride with my wife. the riding position and handling where perfect (1.76 cm) from the first moment and like you, I used the lower sit position (about 4 cm difference) . power was more than enough and traction control works smoothly. the best was the front break that can stops you the within amazingly short distance. My question is about one thing I was really supersized about -the thin elastic windshield. it's was too windy in 130 and in 170 Kph it was horrible. it was really bad so I'm little bit confused with opposite impression.

    Thank you Pavlin for your fair review. I want to ask you a question; If the money isn't issue, would you prefer this bike for around the world tour over 100K km. Let's say the tour will be mostly on tarmac roads, 10 or 20 percent will be on light off-road. Or do you prefer other motorcycles such as Africa Twin, Tenere 700 etc.

    I find it this great seat height for my 181cm height in my boots. And it's adjustable by 20mm PLUS I have an Air Hawke so I can change leg angles 3 ways in a 700km day ride which really helps with fatigue.
    I must point out that the rear suspension DOES have preload which helps when loading the bike up.
    In Australia and elsewhere the R model is more expensive (AUD$1500 more here) - it's weird that it would be different in Germany

When going backroads it gets even less. I noticed the vibration on the R got less on highways when I changed tires to tkc70. Almost no issue know, even at higher speeds.

    I bought KTM 790 Adventure S recently. I love it ! Why KTM decided to replace it with the 890 IMO is a mistake. I mean the 790 did not need to be replaced with a bike that is 10 pounds heavier and more expensive to boot. KTM got it right with the 790 to begin with. If KTM wanted to improve the concept they should have tweaked the 790 (maybe shaving a few pounds off it). W/E

    A quick check on mobile.de shows that the standard 790 Adventure costs about 11-12000€ and the Adventure R costs 13-14000€, in Germany. The price 14990€ probably includes all extras on the testbike: acra, heated grips etc. So if you equip an R-version with same options would probably cost about 17000€?

    • @motorcycleadventures

    Gas tank is very vulnerable on crash, not to mention dangerous and prone to catch fire in the event of mc crash..hey pavlin, I think it's too small for you.. 1290 might be better for you.. Anyhow, nice review man...

    i'm 168 and i ride it no problem. i can flat foot on one side if i lean it just a bit o i can put both my feet on the toes at the same time. if it was 230 kg and top heavy it'd be a litte scary but it is definitely not the case

      Well... I know that there is no perfect bike and I am sure that the Tenere has it's own pros and cons. The review will be honest.

    I used to go touring (around England and France mainly) on my old XTZ 750 up until my knees completely failed ten years ago; bit of a lump but fully loaded it was a very comfy machine for hundreds of miles/kms at a time. Do you really, really, really, really, REALLY need a 1.3 litre bike? Really?

    New Yamaha Tenere es in the U.S. are expensive. If I had to choose one I'll rather have the KTM 790 S .

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  4 роки тому

      In the USA you still haven't seen the new Tenere 700. It will come next year. If you want to compare the price you have to do it KTM 1290, nit with 790.

    • @gospeltractslove
      @gospeltractslove 4 роки тому

      Thats true I wasn't comparing right, but I don't think the YT 700 will have the state of the art TFT display you can pair with an iPhone for things like google map as the new 790 does, and as for the more limited suspension on the 790 S, just get the 790 R instead and then change to the road tires and upgrade to a better wind screen and you'll have the best bike out there, if you got the money...
      For me the heavy 1200 - 1290 cc and big Harley cruiser type bikes are not easy to navigate through tight spaces at lower speeds, I think the agility of these smaller adventure bikes 700 or 790 gives more riding options for more useful and fun rides. If you do a lot of cross country touring then probably a bigger bike is what you need but for me I like the lighter weight bikes best.
      Nice KTM review, nice video thanks!

    These bikes are amazing but not something I would buy. I’ve just sold my GS 1200 as it was too big and at some point I’ll find another smaller adventure bike. I’ll definitely look at the new Tenere though.

    The engine comes across as rattling like a bag of nails, unless of course it's a diesel. If I owned one of these, I would forever be waiting for the engine to need the spanners. Thanks Pavlin, went through Germany yesterday (Aachen - Passau), didn't see you on the autobahn but did see a lot of Hardleys. You need to educate the locals better!

    Why the 21 inch front wheel for a road bike ?

    • @mehdibb4186
      @mehdibb4186 4 роки тому

      Motorcycle Adventures honestly i would prefer a 19 inch front if i where to ride mostly on the road or even 70/30 road/dirt. In my own experience i don't feel confident pushing even a little with a 21 wheel in the twisties. The gyroscopic effect is definitely noticeable . Am curious what's your own experience riding a 21 wheel on the street . Cheers
