- Steely Dan is a legendary American rock band formed in 1971 by core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Their music blends elements of jazz, rock, funk, and pop, and they're known for their intricate compositions, cryptic lyrics, and meticulous studio craftsmanship. Some of their most famous songs include "Reelin' in the Years," "Do It Again," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," and "Hey Nineteen." Steely Dan's albums, like "Aja" and "Gaucho," are considered classics in the realm of rock music, and they've had a lasting influence on generations of musicians.
Steve Gadd is why I've been drumming for 46 years!
Consider your ears blessed. You just listened to arguably the greatest piece of studio session music ever recorded.
Beautiful reaction vid 🍻
Legendary music aside, this album is also considered one of the greatest mixed and mastered albums. A must for anyone studying audio engineering.
an epic drum solo... of all time 🔥🔥
This was Steve Gadds finest moment!
Right On! But let's not forget to give a shout out to Wayne Shorter for his sax solo's he did along with Steve Gadd on the title track Aja on the Steely Dan LP, ya dig? That's no disrespect to any of the other kick-azz musicians who laid down some great grooves & vibes on the Aja LP at all. I'm just saying Steve & Wayne were really the 2 who made the Aja jam come alive, IMO. +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+ 🤘😉🤘
@@216Numbskull True, and Wayne did it in one take.
One of the finest Saxophone solos by Wayne Shorter. Check out his amazing work with the jazz-fusion band, Weather Report.
YES! This is artistry!
Omg I love your reaction!
I believe Steve Gadd played drums on this one....
Yes.
Nicely put. The great thing about this particular form of art is we can witness it over and over again. Come in here and watch others experience it for the first time and remember our own feelings of discovery. Scintillating!
Exactly,we get to feel that ecstatic feeling all over again
That has got to be the greatest reaction to Aja I have ever seen! I love seeing people react when discovering the brilliance of Steely Dan! Aja is my favorite Dan song! Just so much music!!!!
I have the full album reaction on my channel hope you'll enjoy it
Even this song tends to lean towards jazz I would say it is more fusion which is a blend of rock , blues, and jazz!
Fun to watch you brother, was waiting for you to get propelled into the stratosphere 😂
Luv your reaction to this "rock" classic. I say rock because classic rock stations played it long ago. Rarely do I hear Steely Dan on a Jazz station. But they have obvious jazz influences and musicians in their mix.
Check out KID CHARLEMAGNE by the Dan
Wayne Shorter, jazz legend, came in and nailed that solo and was gone.
That song is Crispy!
Asia is a beautiful ride! Superb writing, arranging, playing, with some of the best musicians in the biz. The breaks and turns in this piece are sooo satisfying. SD's music was/is a genre in and of itself.
Since you had a wickedly positive response to Anastacia and the unique vocal effects of her voice, I'm gonna put this artist out here as a suggestion.
I don't know if you've already heard some of her stuff, but I would really really like to see/hear you react to Florence+The Machine. Particularly the songs "You Got The Love", "Sweet Nothing", and "Spectrum".
The face you make when you hear "Real Music" for the first time... :-)
Pretty sure that was my reaction too, the first time I heard those wild drums come back at the end.
Music helps our challenge of being man
Can't even say often imitated never duplicated for Steve Gadd...no one can come close!
you want to have more fun with steely dan, research how they got their name
RIP Bill Borroughs
