Started my locs again after I’ve done them 2 times. After all this time, these are the things i realized this far... 1. you don’t need to put a Trillion products in your hair 2. don’t retwist too often. Allow the roots to thicken and grow over time 3. Embrace the early baby stages 4. Stop obsessing over growth, it’ll grow eventually. All it takes is patience. 5. Stop touching the hair. 6. During the early stages, don’t style. If you style too often, there’s thinning that may occur which can lead to breakage and irritation of the scalp and overall Loc. 7. Only apply water to the locs few times throughout the week directly and apply a natural oil to the scalp only. I realized the more I applied oil to the locs, it left it too oily and built up occurred. 8. Get PLENTY of natural sunlight. 9. Buy silk scarves 10. NEVER SLEEP WITHOUT A SCARF 11. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Everyone has a different hair type and certain hair care routines that works in their favor. Do your research and experiment.
I got a question then I have locs myself and I’m 8 months in now and I was wondering wym by early stages and how often is too often wit styles? I’ve gotten braids in the last 2 months and I’m goin to take a break now but I wanna be careful
Yesss! Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize you can not stress how important that is! Definetly keep your hair covered when yo sleep otherwise there will be a lint festival in your locs. Your giving great advice young man. I know all of this things that you are saying now, but only through trial & error. I've had my locs for 16 years now & I wish someone would have given me these tips, but like I said I'm 16 years in & locs weren't as popular as they are now.....Peace & Blessings.... Respect
Its a little more complicated than that. Black hair should be styled when it's moist, because moist hair is more elastic and less likely to break. But moist hair also shrinks in so when your locs are new and "budding" you want to avoid too much moisture because it will shrink out of the loc and try to come home to your scalp. Twist the locs moist, clip them, and let them dry with the clips so it sets. U can air dry or use heat, the heat causes damage tho so dont let nobody put you under no dryer for a long time. When they get long enough that you dont mind the unlocking at the roots, then moisture moisture moisture will keep them healthy and strong.
Ran across your video after looking for how to remove my locs. Thank you!! I will be keeping my locs. You're adorable and very encouraging, keep up the awesome videos.
Omg thank you my locs are almost 11 years old, untill now i have never really thought about caring for them other then washing an retwisting, you have answered questions i didnt know how or even who to ask!!! And your locs are beautiful!!! :)
I've been growing my dreads about 5 years now and yours is the first video I watch about it. Thanks for helping me decide whether to cut it all off ou take good care of it. Now I know what I've been doing wrong (and can't blame the hot weather). I'll try save my hair from scrap and turn it's life around.
Great vid man really helpful to me a young Bol in the dread game with short locs n seeing your length n how healthy your dreads are keeps me going man thank you super helpful 10/10
omg, i know i'm late but your locs are everything!!! They are definitely goals, this is my second time trying to loc my hair, the first time i cut out before they were fully loc'd this time i know patience is virtue!!!
this was very very good...practical things that I would assume but actually going through the process is something different for the support. I really appreciate this video because I'm the type that want to know what to truly expect. Thanks thanks thanks
Your locs look great! I've been a loose natural 12.5 years. I started my loc journey 11 weeks ago. Looking forward to making it to mature locs, tfs. I am subscribing.
wow my goal is to get longer and longer locs..mine are just one year old and they touching my shoulders awww i just love locs. am here now to see the tips! and your locs are just a motivation. damnnnn cute
Bout time u made a video about your hair!!!! Please do more videos about your hair, and products that you use and your routines, and techniques!!! different styles to wear etc!!!
Nice locs man! I'm growing my fro out now. I cut it down in December, plan on dreading it in June or July before I start college. Love your locs tho bro hope mine look like yours fr.
hi i have had my dreads for 3.5 years...they are down my back and past the shoulder blades...i do agree that you try not getting your retwist every month...i just got my hair retwisted..6/26/16..this time i am going to wait until august or sept for a retwist...summer is here...btw i love your dreads..they look awesome.....Peace.
Hey Clayton, I enjoyed your video! You have really beautiful long dreads. Thanks for the tips too! After a year of growth I did dye my tips but I’m not going to dye them again until summer. Thanks again that tip on moisturizer and keeping our dreads healthy was a good1 I’ll start doing more of that.Question how often do you trim your dreads and could you possibly do a tutorial on trimming your dreads?
GREAT INFO, BLEACHING IS LIKE PUTTING A RELXER ON IT. YOU MUST CONDTION AND MOISTURIZE A LOT, CAUSE CHEMICALS DRY YOUR HAIR TO THE BONE. AND OUR HAIR IS ALREADY DRY. STAY HYDRATED WILL HELP A LOT. GREAT INFO 😃 😊 🙂
When I first moved to Vegas in the summer I never sheltered my hair because I thought the sun would be good but I didn’t know my hair would get lighter that way. I love my natural black hair.
spraying water doesn't help me. feels like my hair just get dry and brittle, I hear good stuff on the rosewater/vit e so I'll give that a go. Nice video yo.
Thank you this helped me so much!!! I just did my first retwist less than a week ago and I've moisturized twice since then.(I spray my hair with water then oil and massage my scalp.) My problem is that my hair looks like I need another retwist already and it's just been 4 days. Is this just something you have to deal with when starting locs? I'm nervous my hair will never look freshly done.
your locs are perfection, my son is getting locs and he is 7 years old and it has been 4 months and his hair isn't locing, how long does it take for your hair to loc
It depends on the type of hair either coarse or soft. If you have coarse hair it locks on the same day you did the dreads. Unlike soft hair, like mine it takes about 3 months. This is based on my experience. Hope this helps :)
I am a freshman in high school and I started my locs and I keep having this ugly stage where it's a Afro and dreds or my locs just stands straight up do you know what to do about that
try tying them down at night with a nylon cap to ensure that they don't stick straight up. Also styling would help to maintain the roots from becoming an afro.
Your locks are gorgeous. Mine started after I shaved my head and I've had them for three years. They are about half of your length... but I've probably never actually done dread maintenance. It's summer now, so I am wanting to let it grow. But in the autumn I want to spend a few weeks twisting them. Do you have any tips for getting your dreads to grow quickly?
I wash my hair every second day. I get the fuzziest locks if I don't palm roll every day. And because my locks are long the weight kills my scalp. It grows an inch or more a week. I have to tighten twist roots every 3rd day ..everyone is different.. So I do I keep the fuzzies out without over rolling and moisturizing.
Live your LOCKS. Y'all let's stop calling our BEAUTIFUL LOCS/LOCKS dreadful... Dreads... dreadlocks... This is a very negative label to out on our natural hair. Also love B's comments. Thanks for info.
+Clayton Logan I agree with everything u said, especially moisturizing, and not retwisting too often. I started doing my own hair cuz the girl who was doing it wanted to take my $$ and redo my hair before enough new growth came in to prevent thinning. I just wana warn people about that. Everyone's hair grows at a different pace so just because someone tells you come every X weeks, if your hair hasnt grown enough, WAIT.
