I love all these outreaches! My brother passed 6 years ago after losing his fight with mental illness. We weren't even aware he was struggling. We started an organization this year called Bumblebee's Mountain Outreach to give back in his memory. Our goal is to help others know someone cares by small acts of kindness. This year at our local Christmas parade and in our community we will have donated/ thrown out over 400 collected handmade hats/scarves. We are so thankful to be able to give to make a difference. Our motto is be kind because you don't know anyone else's journey.

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I also suffer from several mental health issues myself. My brother never knew it until about 4-5 years ago. And he also had no clue how to "handle it". We have had some long conversations about it and he has made alot of progress but he still has things to learn. He tells me "well when you are missing home or family or just feeling depressed just text or call me". I explained that is not that easy. When i get depressed I back into my shell, and he has to be the one to reach out to me if he hadn't heard from my for a week or so. There is alot to learn. I think there needs to be less stigma on the entire topic. I share about my mental health struggles to anyone who will listen, in hopes that something I say will help them in some way. Sending prayers to you and your family.

My daughter received a blanket from project Linus when she was in the hospital for an illness. It really had such an impact on her. Years later, she still uses the blanket for comfort. Project Linus is a wonderful organization!

So many wonderful programs! I have made to date 148 bears both knit and crochet for the Mother Bear Project, so it's easily my favorite out of the list. The bears are a very portable project and work up quickly, so they are very easy to work on in the odd corners of time that I have for crafting. They post lots of pictures of the kids with their bears, and there's nothing like actually seeing a child cuddling a bear you made for them to inspire you to make as many as possible!

Absolutely Love you, I started crocheting a few months ago (complete coincidence that my maternal grandmother and great grandmother were avid crocheters) and I (teenage English/Indian boy who is very different compared to my sporty and rowdy classmates) have found it has given me a lot of new attention whenever I bring in some wool and a hook to do it during the morning. I’ve managed to bond with staff, especially this one cleaner who told me about his making rugs with his family, and it’s made me so happy to have this fun hobby I enjoy doing a LOT. I’ve even taught one of my friends a few stitches, and she picked up a set a few days ago! Crocheting has become super valuable to me in the short time I’ve been doing it, and I hope that starting with knitting will be just as fun! It’s been hard though….

I have been knitting and crocheting for years. I started making scarves, caps and mittens and my husband would take the items to down town Denver and distribute them. I was running out of yarn so I asked people at my church for donations of yarn, explaining what I was doing. People asked if they could also donate items. This started about 20 yrs ago. It's still going strong. Additionally, I have made hundreds of pairs of socks and have only sold two pairs. This is how I give back. I am disabled and bed bound. Rather than feeling like I'm just a burden and taking up space, it gives me a sense of purpose.

Thank you for making this video! I belong to group of ladies in my neighborhood in Richmond, Texas, who knit and crochet for charity. We donate afghans to veterans, fleece blankets with crochet borders to children going through the foster care system, so they have something that belongs to them, we also donate shawls to cancer patients going through chemotherapy, hats and scarfs to Common Threads that helps children and young people in school ages. Baby clothes to a Pregnancy Assistant Center from our area. We occasionally donate to other organizations like people and animal shelters. It is self rewarding to give things to people you don’t know. I especially prefer making clothes for babies who I consider the most vulnerable.

Won’t lie, this motivated me to look up organizations here in Canada! I’m already donating to a local homeless shelter - hopefully I can get my bag of knits and crochets to them next week - but I know there’s more I can do. Charity really makes me feel more positive and better about the world, even though I’m a bit of a misanthrope (I don’t like people). We need more positivity in the world! And I want to hope I can help make a difference.

The Warm-Up America blanket pieces were actually how I originally started Knitting and Crochet. Someone I knew told me about it and I thought it would be really cool to learn how to do them both! The best part of that if you are a beginner like I was (I still consider myself a beginner even after a year), is that you can be creative and learn new stitches with the blanket pieces. Once you are done making as many pieces as you would like, you send them off and have done a very nice thing for someone else.

Such a great list! Thanks for sharing! On a local level, the knitting group at my sister's church got permission to put beanies on their ISD's school busses. The drivers can give them to students who don't have winter headgear. An ISD staffer is a member of our group and serves as liaison and re-supplies the busses. Elise, I recently started to crochet again after a 40 year hiatus. My nephew was expecting a baby and I thought amigurumi items would be the perfect gift. Currently, I’m making amigurumi Christmas ornaments as gifts. As I’m nearing completion of this project, I’ve begun to look around for the next one. We gather at our local library a couple of times a month where we “knit’n’natter”, great for social networking and learn new skill and inspiration. Such great ideas! This video really got me thinking. Before Covid struck I had been buying yarn to make hats, scarves and gloves for the homeless. Well, the yarn is still here. My bedroom is so small that all the plastic containers and boxes are blocking the path to my window. Not safe, I know. This year I am determined to stitch up a storm and bust through that stash! You have given me so many great ideas for charities that I can stitch for. In fact, my cousin has a nonprofit in the Las Vegas area and they supply animal rescue organizations with supplies. I think they would love some blankets and mats for the rescued pets. Time to start stitching and busting through my stash, but first, I'm going to watch this video again. what great inspiration for the New Year.

Unfortunately I don't knit but make small crochet amigurumi for a local lady to sell at her Christmas lights display. All the proceeds go towards local cancer charities. It's a win-win, benefits the charities and I get to test out new patterns, colour combos and techniques before I make them as gifts for family and friends.

My Aunt Lola was an avid crocheter and knitter and she would donate shawls to nursing homes. When she passed away (at 94!) a few years ago, I crocheted a few shawls and donated them. I used the pattern The Sunday Shawl, which is one of my faves. It works up fast and is SO pretty! I loved giving them away and I know someone out there is enjoying them. I'm definitely going to check out some of these that you mentioned. I LOVE the knitted knockers! I had no idea about that, but I absolutely love it! Love the list you provided! Before covid hit, I crocheted hats, cocoons and amigurumi for Texas Children's cancer patients (newborn to age 21). Now, I've donated several blankets to our local animal shelter, amigurumi to a group that makes wheelchairs for dogs (for an online auction) and when asked, I make ami for a silent auction for a friend raising money to end ALZ. I do sell but make time for the donations, too.
My dad lost his battle with cancer this year but was given a prayer blanket from the hospital last year. I don't know if they are receiving donations but that another avenue I want to try to cover. I'm going to save this video to keep the links to your lists. Thank you.🌻

This is such a great idea for a video. Scraptastic yarns, creative grandma, and yarn joy podcast make handmade items for charity. These are just a few that come to my head. Scraptastic yarns does newborn hats to donate when the little league world series is in Williamsport, which is near her. Yarn joy does 4 premie hats a month and then donated them every October. Creative Grandma does project Linus every year. Scraptastic yarns also works with a prayer shawl ministry that donated all the items them make.

Thank you for this video...God love you for getting the word out. I have been a crafter for Warm Up America and their many charities for 10+ years. They are essentially a "clearing house" or link to a lot of organizations in need, and well worth checking out. Just went to the post office today and sent a package of 7X9 rectangles to support the Hallmark project you spoke of. Another organization is the Seaman's Christian Institute that provides Christmas support to the mariners at sea during the holidays, There are over 15,000 seamen around the globe away from families at the holiday season. Another charity I crochet for is Soap Sacks that provides soap and a little sack to keep the soap in at homeless shelters. The population at homeless shelters is variable and the need is greatest during winter months.
I really appreciate the share of these charities...and I am going to add them to my "needs" list to provide for. Thank you!

I have created items for Mother Bear and for Operation Gratitude. Another really great organization is called Christmas at Sea, part of the Seaman’s Church Institute. This is the longest-running charitable knitting organization in the USA. It provides hand-made knitted or crocheted items to mariners who have to be away from their families at Christmas. It has a variety of fascinating patterns for hats, scarves, socks, etc. Do read the instructions before starting your project. All yarns are welcome except faux fur.

I believe in giving. I make HatNotHate hats, which is my favorite giving back organization dedicated to kindness. Others are Warm Up America, preemie hats, and dishcloths for Community Outreach. This year, I will make shawls for nursing homes. A Ukrainian fundraising organization looks for small items to sell at craft shoes, so I crochet boomarks and dishcloths. There are many ways to bring kindness into the world.

I love making toys and dishcloths. I have made so many that they were piling up around here, in baskets, drawers and bags. Over the years I have donated to quite a few charities. Some are local, some are national and still, others are international. The nearest Shriner’s hospital is in Jacksonville, which is about an hour and half from home. Since I was a Shriner’s kid and received medical care from their branch in Greenville, SC when I was just five years old, it is near and dear to my heart. Since I lost my contact there, this year I decided to give the mini bunnies and bears and dishcloths that I make to Operation Christmas child. It never made sense to me that we buy items made over seas and ship them over seas again. 🤣 Locally, my friends and I at our tiny church work on projects that go to places like the Ronald McDonald house, UF hospital and we make shawls for the elderly which are given out by my sister in law to folks recovering from strokes. I’ve made knitted knockers for people that I know personally and they really appreciate them.
In short, it truly is more blessed to give than to receive!

There is a wildlife rescue in northeast Oklahoma called Wild Heart Ranch. Completely non profit wildlife sanctuary whose goal it is to save injured and orphaned wild animals for rehabilitation and release. They use blankets ( need to be washable) and they use knitted or crocheted “nests” for baby animals and birds. Look for them on UA-cam. I’m sure they have some requirements for yarn types and stitch patterns, but their contact information is on the site. They also post videos about their animals. 💚💚💚
