Boz is a fellow Texan! He went to school in Dallas and was classmates with Steve Miller, who taught him to play the guitar. He was in The Steve Miller Band for several years.
He's from Texas. He used to sing for the Steve Miller Blues Band. Moved to Frisco and came out on his own. His Silk Degrees album is a CLASSIC! Not a bad song on the album. His studio musicians at his direction later turned into the band Toto. I saw him close out Saturday Night at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival a few years ago and he was still sounding great.
Want to hear Boz’s song about a PIMP? “JOJO”; one of the BEST smooth and funky R&B songs from the era 🔥🔥🔥 I had the pleasure to see Boz live just 2 years ago in Red Bank, NJ. He hasn’t lost a beat; sounds exactly the same.
He was huge, all over the radio back in the 70s. Three members of Boz's band co-wrote this with Boz, and the three later went on to form the band Toto.
There are a handful of songs that everyone should react to, this is one of them. This is just a badass jam. You gotta watch an earlier version. His voice was awesome when he was younger.
His voice sounded great in this video, which I've never seen, and he sounded great about 8 years ago on the Dukes of September Tour which I saw live (Boz, Micheal McDonald and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan). Great concert.
Boz got his start with the Steve Miller Band, then recorded a solo album in 1969 in Muscle Shoals that featured the studio's legendary R&B sidemen and none other than Duane Allman on a couple tracks. By the mid 70s he'd perfected this kind of mid-tempo slow groove that slotted well on FM radio along side Steely Dan, etc.
Boz started his career in the "Blues", and then transitioned to pop/rock/R&B. He is good friends with Steve Miller and they attended the same high school in Dallas and Scaggs became a vocalist for Miller’s band, The Marksmen.
This entire concert is fire. On the tune "Look What You've Done To Me" (a ballad) from this concert, the backup singers will blow your mind at the end of the performance.
Silk Degrees came out in the mid 70's and gave Boz his most successful run of hits, merging disco, funk and jazz sounds in ways we had never heard before. As others have already recommended, Lido Shuffle needs to be reviewed. Also, one of my favorites of the day - What do You Want the Girl to Do? The album is great top to bottom, even songs never released a singles. For unique sound and not a miss in the bunch I place this album in the rack with Van Morrison's Moondance.
Went to the best concert in the late seventies when I was eighteen. It was Boz Scaggs, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. Was blessed to grow up with this music.
There are ten songs on his Silk Degrees album, which was released in 1976, and four of the were massive hits: Lido Shuffle, What Can I Say, Georgia, and Lowdown. Real music performed by a real artist.
Boz is a "MUST DO" rabbit hole! His album Silk Degrees is one of the best ever produced, and his catalog as a whole is guaranteed to please. One of the best concerts I ever attended, and he finds the best backup singers and then takes pains to make sure their talents are featured and appreciated.
Boz Scaggs is just phenomenal! This song was originally released on the Silk Degrees album in 1976, one of his best albums. Each Boz album is different, some more soul, some blues, some rock, some disco, just a great lifetime of work. I highly recommend checking out more Boz, especially the album "Some Change," but you cannot go wrong picking any album (except "Other Roads," that was an outlier for my tastes).
He’s super jazzy and funky! He was in the Steve Miller band at the beginning but not for long! You should check out his song “The Lido Shuffle”. Always loved him and his guitar! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
The studio version is where we all originally heard the unreal groove of this song, and loved forever. By the way the whole 'Silk Degrees' album it's from is eternally fire as well, and you will be adding the album to your playlists'.
WOW! Boz Scaggs was #1 on my playlist when I was 20 years old. He is soulful and amazing. i am 69 now, and music has surely changed, but great music is timeless. FYI I am watching Ren and friends these days, the newest REAL music out there.
There's a video of Boz Skaggs singing "Loan Me A Dime" from around 1984 or 1985 (it might even be from the same performance as this video) that is an absolute classic and masters class from start to finish. it runs a bout 15 minutes and is worth every second. Boz played on the original version of this song with Duane Allman. There's also a video of him singing "Make My Life Shine" from 1971. Lowdown is from the classic Silk Degrees album.
He was here in the Springs in 2022. I was a Disco Queen in the 70s and listened funk/ r&b mostly. Then I was introduced to classic rock from my brother. The Eagles was my first concert in 1976. They played with Linda rondanst and pure prarie league. I used to hang out at the disco here in the springs called the Odyssey. The 70s were the bomb for music! Box scaggs was a great bluesy band!
R&B GRAMMY WINNER IN 1977 , PLAYED WITH SOME POWERFUL BLUES LEGENDS IN EARLY CAREER , FROM SAN FRANCISCO THIS IS FROM THE BOARDING HOUSE IN S F , SEEN HIM THERE TWICE LATE 70'S. BOZ WAS ALWAYS ON THE RADIO BACK IN THE 70'S...
He is from Texas...not native, but he got here as soon as he could...lol. Graduated high school in the Dallas area. Lido Shuffle and We're All Alone should also be on your list. I have listened to him since late 60's. Love all his music.
Yay!!! Another one I can cross off my list! 😁 Love Boz Scaggs! He's more known for being in Steve Miller Band, but he's an amazing solo artist as well! ❤
That’s why I say the music of this era will never be duplicate. That was great at the time and if you could still listen to it today, it’s just timeless. hopefully, I’m wrong and somebody comes out with some good music in the future, but I really don’t see it
I was born in 73 and remember my dad always playing Boz Scaggs. Still have the album. Memories! You need to check out Bobby Caldwell What You Won't Do For Love
I met Boz Scaggs in 1979 at his restaurant in the financial district of San Francisco. I know I had to have swooned, b/c his charisma on stage is palpable, only to be intoxicating meeting him in person. He kissed my hand, spun me around, gave me a huge bear hug. I know that I couldn’t have been more infatuated with a person. I had been to 3 live concerts. He used to love playing at the theater in the round in San Carlos. What talent and charm. He still is charismatic.
Boz, his real name is William. He is first and foremost a bluesman. This studio album "Silk Degrees" is more or less Toto with Boz as the singer. David Paich, Jeff Porcaro and David Hungate were a critical part of it before they formed Toto. Other studio greats like Louie Shelton, Plas Johnson are on the album as well as sax great Tom Scott.
That was actually a flugelhorn, not a trumpet. The flugelhorn is taller than a trumpet and has a slightly more mellow sound. It was really popularized by Chuck Mangione in the late 70s with his song, "Feels So Good". Chuck was a regular "guest" on the hit cartoon show, "King of the Hill".😂
Silk Degrees was my first Boz Scaggs album. Although I remember when he played with Steve Miller Band. Boz Sc 5:08 aggs is from Canton, Ohio. His real name is William Royce Scaggs. "Boz" is just a nickname given to him in his childhood.
Boz is one of my favorite singers ever, you should watch the band called ",The Dukes of September" it's fabulous and of course because boz is in it,Donald Fagan, and Michael McDonald. Now that's greatness and one of my favorite songs is Miss Sun by boz
Before MTV or UA-cam, we all thought he was black. Color never mattered back then. We just grooved to the beat. Everything Boz does is fire so keep checking out his stuff. Seen him in concert even a year or so ago…always awesome.
I also found Boz Scaggs a lot later too. I heard his stuff but didn't know it was him. He has a bunch of songs in 1980s movies and many you wouldn't expect. He is such a underrated artist. People just don't know
Boz was all over the radio, back in the day. I'm now 71 and "Low Down" is still on my TOP 5 LIST!! Coolest song ever. I think Boz was known to be a Vegas gambler, and very respected musician. As a Social Worker, I used alot of music to reach my teens who were doing time for various reasons, and this song was extremely powerful. Perfect for discussion on what the song is really about.
Been on the playlist for... uhhhh... A MILLION YEARS! This concert was obviously when he was older.. but still got that vibe! "Look what you've done to me", during this concert is phenomenal. Great reaction my guy!
Oh boy, Boz is in the house! I’ve seen him 3 times in concert. He could sing the alphabet and be amazing. So many songs, please do more Boz reactions. If you liked this song, you’ll love his whole catalog.
Boz Scaggs has always been one of my favorites...This is great party music and remember it was one of those songs that got you up on your feet. He has one of the most recognizable voices in the music industry...
Lowdown" is a song originally recorded in 1976 by Boz Scaggs from his album Silk Degrees. The song was co-written by Scaggs and keyboardist David Paich. Paich, along with fellow "Lowdown" session musicians bassist David Hungate and drummer Jeff Porcaro, would later go on to form the band Toto.
I was hoping you’d play some Boz Skaggs, although I believe he was originally from Texas, he came to San Francisco decades ago, this guy has soul and he’s a really nice person, glad you like him. Some other great tunes by Boz, Look What You’ve Done To Me, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Lido Shuffle,We’re All Alone, Jojo, hope you take a listen. Thanks BP👍💕
I first ran across Boz Skaggs in the 70s and he was established then. He has a ton of tunes. These are some of my favorites, Abracadabra, Reelin in the years, Lido Shuffle, (Love) Look what you've done to me, Fly like an eagle, Take the money and run. Any of those are good listening. Good reaction.
Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle is one of his greatest. Little Miss Night And Day & JoJo are smooth. Scaggs was a bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band. He's American born in Canton, Ohio .
It's amazing that as we grow the way we hear music changes and grows as well. My friends and I used to put this in a category we called "grown folks music"! That leads me to believe that I may be one of those grown folks now?! Nah😅😅! For all you young folks - this right here is the definition of a vibe! 🎶
Boz Skaggs met Steve Miller in high school at St. Mark’s School in Dallas. Steve Miller’s dad had a recording studio built in their house, and T-Bone Walker, Les Paul, lots of people, would use it, so they had the best teachers and the best recording school available.
Man, when this album, Silk Degrees, dropped it was instantly weaved into my dna. He was born in my beautiful state of Ohio in Canton. I have seen him in concert multiple times, can't get much better! Hit up his song Lido Shuffle next.
Every single time I hear Boz Scagg..I instantly turn 14..at my school in a rec room where there was a juke box..we could got there during breaks lunch study period..a ton of songs we listened to but any Boz was always on!! I instantly go back in time and I am there again!! Thank You Boz..that's what the Magic of your Music does for everyone!!!!
I first heard Boz Scaggs when I was 17 yrs old in 1977. Yes, we had the best music back in the day. When I started dating my husband in 1978, he made me a cassette with all Boz Scaggs songs. Best Jazz group ever!!!!!!!!❤. Yes, that is what Boz Scaggs sounds like on their album. Your reaction to this song is exactly the same way that I reacted the first time that I heard their song on the radio. Like you would say They are "FIRE".
This is off of the Silk Degrees album, which charted for over 100 weeks. The album is worthy of many many listens. I had a friend who worked backstage security in the late 60's through the 70's (oh yeah, I heard a lot, lol) and he and the rest of the team loved Boz, they all said he was absolutely the nicest guy.
Jojo, Lido Shuffle, We're All Alone, anything and everything he does. Boz Scaggs was the bomb; he started his career in earnest with the Steve Miller band. All the tracks off his original album Silk Degrees are top notch. His bandmates have always been amazing through the years. Some of the main musicians on the Silk Degrees album had a friendly split and formed the group Toto.
Boz is the king of COOL. He’s from Texas originally. I’ve seen him in concert four times. Boswell Scaggs. “ JoJo” is another funk groove. From the Dukes of September show he did with Steely Dan and Michael McDonald: Miss Sun and Love Look What You’ve Done are phenomenal.
Boz is the man!! This entire American Music Hall concert is amazing. Please listen to the original of Lowdown as well. Additional great songs from the concert (or studio versions if you prefer): Breakdown Dead Ahead Jojo Lido Shuffle Georgia Look What You've Done to Me The album Silk Degrees was perfection!
Ah Boz Scaggs! It has been years! He was another "dad" introduction for me. My dad actually introduced me to most of the artists of the era. I was a teen in the 70s and my dad was a bass player in bar bands. I forgot how much I love Boz. I actually think my husband would like this. My husband is very narrow in his musical experience. In fact, half of what he listened to before meeting me was just what was played on the radio. My dad and I introduced him to so much more. LOL Boz Scaggs, yea, charisma is a good way to explain him. Thank you for this. Oh, and for Al Stewart Year of the Cat. I had forgotten how beautiful that song is as well.
This is another example of why the 70's was the most musically diverse, THE BEST DECADE of music!!
I agree!
👍💕
Absolutely THE best decade!
Agreed! Best decade ever.🤗💖
Isay that all the time im a proud 70s Brat lol
Without a doubt
First white guy to win the Grammy for R&B. 1977
Not too hard to see why ?....LOL :)
He's wonderful!!!❤❤❤❤
Georgia is my favorite by him!
Lots of good white soul singers back then,Boz is one
The studio version intro, Jeff Porcaro is the BOMB! though
Boz Scaggs was one of the top music artists of the 70s.... MANY big hits. You ain't heard anything yet - seriously. He is amazing!!!
Yes he IS....love the Boz!! 💖💖💖
#Facts
Love Love Love!!!!
"Lido Shuffle" is a must for a reaction video... it's required or we take away your cool-card.
You should check out Loan Me a Dime, an early (1969) song of his that features Duane Allman on guitar.
Boz is amazing. Love him. This song won best R&B song of 1976 at the 1977 Grammy Awards. This made Boz the first white artist to win that category.
Yes, your Dad listened to this. "Lido Shuffle" is a vibe. Listen up to Boz.
Second the Lido Shuffle
Lido is a bop !!!!!
Came into comments solely to mention Lido Shuffle, must listen.
Yes! Definitely Lido Shuffle ❤
HELL YEAH!
Boz is a fellow Texan! He went to school in Dallas and was classmates with Steve Miller, who taught him to play the guitar. He was in The Steve Miller Band for several years.
I dId Not know that im a huge 70s BRAT 2
Both he and Steve Miller went to St Mark’s School of Texas in ….. Dallas!
Boz Scaggs is his own musical genre. He put the cool in cool.
He's from the 70s. We had such great artist's back then. There is so much more from him. Just the beginning!
Graduated high school in '75. The soundtrack to my youth was PHENOMENAL. We were so blessed.
Absolutely!!!❤❤
We never knew how good we had it😢
Want to hear Boz’s song about a PIMP? “JOJO”; one of the BEST smooth and funky R&B songs from the era 🔥🔥🔥 I had the pleasure to see Boz live just 2 years ago in Red Bank, NJ. He hasn’t lost a beat; sounds exactly the same.
JoJo was co-written with David foster. Great song!
Fantastic song
HELL YES!
Tune
Oh my guy! Lido Shuffle, Georgia, ALL thing Boz! And the studio version is fire! Thank you for this one.
Lido shuffle is forever playlist . It’s always there
"Somebody Loan Me a Dime" is an incredible blues song too! Boz recorded it at Muscle Shoals with a young Duane Allman on lead guitar.
@@ContrarianCorner
I still haven't listened to that yet
@@sassymess7111 Definitely worth a listen if you're a slow blues fan. It's easy to find on YT. Cheers...
The Boz rabbit hole is DEEP! We had such good music in the 70's, everyone had pure talent back then!
Again, thank you for the reminder. I love Boz Scaggs. When listening to Boz Scaggs, found Steely Dan love live perf of "Peg"
Funny you should mention Steely Dan. I’m new to BP’s channel and was just wondering if he’s been introduced to them yet.
@@kathyheyne6030 nice rabbit hole to go down. Aja song is one of my favourites.

I like the studio version. This is not what we heard on the radio and fell in love with.
The 70's was the best era for music.

If i'm driving and a Boz tune comes up, I'm blasting and bellowing. Great tune.
This puts me right back in dance warm ups in 1978...as I sit with ice on my knee in 2024. Great song. Great memories.

This entire concert is fire. On the tune "Look What You've Done To Me" (a ballad) from this concert, the backup singers will blow your mind at the end of the performance.
Glad you said this... I was going to recommend it too, it's absolutely beautiful.
I love this song
This song from this performance is an absolute M U S T !!
It is my favorite song as well! Another beautiful love song is "You can have me anytime". ❤
One of the best things every recorded!
Yes Yes Yes my man Boz Scaggs. Songs like Lido, Georgia, What Can I Say, Love me tomorrow. This album was a jam lots of hits.
The 70s was such a great time for music diversity. We loved Boz in Australia, loved him! Still listen to his music in 2024! 💕

This was my first concert when Silk Degrees came out.✌️❤️
Man, when this album, Silk Degrees, dropped it was instantly weaved into my dna. He was born in my beautiful state of Ohio in Canton. I have seen him in concert multiple times, can't get much better! Hit up his song Lido Shuffle next.
BOZ SCAGGS< another banger, JO JO! You will love that one too!!!
You got to check out "Miss Sun" from this concert! It a real banger, and the backup singers do an incredible job!
Listen to "Jojo". It's another killer track dripping with soul, blues and attitude.
Boz, so cool, so smooth, love him, love the reaction❤🔥
Boz is the originator of this song . He and a couple of his band mates wrote this song
He still tours, great show! His band is pretty awesome!
Additional great songs from the concert (or studio versions if you prefer):
Breakdown Dead Ahead
Jojo
Lido Shuffle
Georgia
Look What You've Done to Me
The album Silk Degrees was perfection!
Love me some Boz Scaggs.
