Rollin' in the Benz!!
Thanks so much for this, recently inherited my Dad's old E-Class after he passed away, want to keep it on the road as long as I can without paying main dealer prices, videos like yours help keep the car community going.
Local Mercedes dealership wanted £950 for a minor “A service”. June 2020
They wouldn’t explain why the cost was so high and because I questioned the cost they wouldn’t book me in.
That was the trigger for me to carry out this service myself,
Your video was very very helpful in simplifying the whole process.
Just saved £800 doing everything myself, the best thing is I know for a fact that it has been done right.
Just serviced my 2015 e250cdi. Thanks for the tutorial. Saved a mint and used all the best filters and oil.
Doing my one this week, only problem, service book can't be updated.
The 2013 facelift is the best model Mercedes ever made on diesels period. Btw i appreciate it for this video, simple and funny. Luckily i have the same car so i'm servicing it tomorrow. Thank you for the effort put into making this for us.
could you please tell me the engine oil capacity - 5.5 or 6.5 or 8 litres Please ?
@@RaviKirubanandan
Opieoils handed out 7 liter. E350 though.
I'm now a B service and two A services down now on my 250cdi thanks to this video. Many thanks. In that time the only cock up I've made is accidentally spilling a bit of oil on filling. Had my decent specialist replace the aux belt I nicely coated lol. Needed doing anyway at 80k. £60 sorted with a Dayco. Never made that mistake again. Cheers to you :)
Everything on that engine look accessible and very well put together. Compared to a Ford tdci where you spend an hour moving obstructions out the way to get at the basic service items. Pays yer money ..
I feel your pain!
Absolutely spot-on. Thanks for taking the time to do this and share it. It's really helped me out.
Excellent video. I hope the guy who services mine is as professional as you.The fuel filter seems so wasteful, must be a money maker.
very informative and easy on the ears,a joy to watch and and enjoyable ..... easier to replace the air filter than on a 5 series 3.0 d
Thanks just watched today filters no problem the only concern was the fuel filter, never replaced before and MB charge like wounded bulls. Very informative. thanks again
WooHoo! First one here...Rob, I've got to say that you know these German cars pretty darn good! And when you starting showing that air filter and fuel filter, my first thoughts were was why was this over-engineered. And thanks for the shout-out!!! That reminds me of a story of where I worked with an engineer from Holland, (I believe they think like the Germans too), at our manufacturing plant. What to me was so obvious for a solution to different problems, he would always come up with the most complicated method in solving the issue. Even if I drank alcohol all day long and was in a stupor, I couldn't come up with some of these brain thoughts that he had.
Always like to watch your videos Rob and you've got a great personality in presenting them. I believe you would be a great guy to sit around in a pub and share some stories. My wife is from England and she has some family and friends over there. Who knows, one day we could shoot the gab along with a lot of other folks on UA-cam that I would like to meet in person. Have a great weekend Rob and don't work too hard!
Haha thanks Terry, i thought you'd like this one. Yes would be great for everyone to meet one day. Especially down the pub!! Have a good one 👍
Thank you for this video.. I have the same modell and, since few days, I had the message "sevice B5".. I think it needs a major maintenance service..
Always enjoy your videos, hope your customers do too not often they can watch what they pay for. Thanks for the tip on the nibblers Renault use a very similar clip and they work just as well on those. But I do like them as there are no sharp edges to cut your arms to ribbons.
Thanks.. Pound shop nibblers For The Win!!
just subbed. Nice video. Just found you after a ETCG fan named you in his top 3.
Love E classes, had the w123 and w124.
Thanks Harvey, that was nice of them. Welcome 🍻
Any chance on a guide to replacing the glow plugs??
That's quiet a sequence of button pushing! I thought I was back in the airplane. :) "mind your legs" that was funny. Those quick jumps are fun! You made quick work of that one Rob!
Cheers Wyatt. The button pushing is like one of your checklists! For a short opening sequence there's a lot shots and editing but I like the effect. Have a good weekend mate 👍
Hello Sir. Could U do instruction video or explanation on how to change brake fluid , coolant and steering wheel fluid on Morcedes W212. Please
Great concise video and nicely presented too.👍👍😷
And your explanation are very accurate, so thank you so much!!!
Nice explained , well presented ..keep up the good work.
Well done, great tutorial, please can you advise where I can find a detailed printout of all the service requirement points for all services. I hope you still read this after all this time, cheers
I use Autodata online but try this lite.servicemercedes.co.uk
Thanks for the informative, entertaining and no nonsense Video. Bought an S212 a few months back and there seems a shortage of quality maintenance info out on the web. There is a myth out there about the non serviceability of MBs by home mechanics, yes it looks over engineered but the space under the bonnet on the 220CDI and the location of the service parts makes it look even easier than my old Volvo V70 D5. First oil change due in a few weeks and looking forward to some garage time. The only future item that bothers me at the moment is the access to the glow plugs so if you ever end up swapping these out a new video would be appreciated here. (Seriously I'd rather change the clutch than swap the glow plugs).
Must have the patience of a saint.
Hello great video presentation. What about changing the automatic transmission oil, does this need to be done if the Mercedes Benz car is over 5 years old?
You should definitely change the transmission oil every 10.000 km, indefinitely. If not, expect to have a damaged transmission. There transmission are good, but only if you take care of it. If you tow heavy loads, change the transmission oil every 50.000 km (no matter what anyone else says).
Great video! Much appreciated. About the fuel filter: does it need any precautions to avoid fuel coming out? What about after the change, does the engine just start?
Pieter Janssen just lift it straight up and the diesel stays inside. Turn the ignition on and off 5 times so the pump primes the filter and start
Firstly I would like to thank you for the effort you are making, great video, thumbs up for that! Where do you actually have the scope of work to be done from? As to my research B 606 service would only require the motor oil and oil filter to be exchanged (besides some checking only). Would be glad if you shared that with us.
love the editing... the quick jumps! I'm too lazy to do those! LOL
Thomas EXOVCDS definitely next level editing. Great job
Thanks guys, it does take a while but I love the effect 👍
Top work! I'm gonna do this to my car in the spring :-)
Cheers! Yeah it's no good doing that job outside in the winter.
Good work! Got same car as this in video 👍
thanks for Video ! going to service my Mercedes e220 2015 by myself! only concern is how level need the vehicle to be in order to get right oil level ! thanks ! and how to keep records ok service history?!
Awesome Video Rob
Very complicated and over engineered cars i must say.
Nice video! Helped me a lot, but can you please tell me or give me the link for the online service? Thank you!
tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/current/passenger-cars/owners-area/tradepartner/TradePartner_Digital_Service.pdf
Great video.
It's mad that the heater can't just be changed to the new filter.
I'm guessing it's to over come any air leaks after multiple changes.
I'm not sure, it just seems wasteful to me.
fantastic vid very helpful, thank you.
Great video fair play !! How do you log into the service history of the car to update it ?
You have to register on the Daimler website as a garage... it’s not the easiest process. Thanks
Thanks for the info ,very helpful..i replace the filter in 2015 e250 but sounds like its air in it..when shutting the car off makes a sucking/bubbling sound..any advice..thanks
Thanks for this Service tutorial. Is there any problem if i do it instead of a workshop due to the Warranty and guarantee
Andre Erik Höglund check with your countries regulations. It’s ok for independent garages to do this in the UK because of 2002 European Block exemption. Details here www.theaa.com/driving-advice/service-repair/right-to-repair-campaign
Excellent video, really helpful. Covered everything I needed to know, without any unnecessary waffle.
Just one question (but I fear I already know the answer), how do I get access to the service logs so that I can enter that the service has been done?
Thanks. Good luck getting registered with Daimler. I had to prove I was a automotive shop. Try here xentry.daimler.com/home/
Great video rob thanks for sharing this
Cheers man 👍
How often should you change the fuel filter?
nice video, I have the same model - could you please tell me the engine oil capacity - 5.5 or 6.5 or 8 litres Please ?
Just did mine, 5.5 litres
That was spot on mate nice one cheers!
Great video, thank you.
Hi sir. Please can you tell which oil to buy for my e class 2014 diesel. I will really appreciate it. Thank you
Best to check with your local parts supplier for your exact model
Good job and very very nice car .
Great! Thank you the Video Instruction!
Excellent video
great video rob.
Thanks 👍
nice video mate German engineering don't you just love it so nice to work on very hard to come across sarcastic on a text message lol
oh yes I have them £60 pliers
Its a nice car but they just over complicate some things. As for them pliers.. I used to use a pocket screwdriver and normal pliers to do them up before I upgraded to my tile nibblers LOL
lol
Thank you,, Ive been faffing around over that fuel filter and cabin filter, your a good teacher, and i save a lot of dosh , I went to my local Merc dealers for spares , ( fuel filter clips) £1 54 each, i buy online spares now due Mercedes costs. As for an electronic service book, I prefer the old fashioned way. I seem to have fluid adjacent to the injectors any idea ? my best regards and a big thank you Cheshire UK
Thanks for your kind words. Better get your fluid issue checked to be on the safe side
you had it sorted by 3 minutes into the video, all the warning lights were off 😂
Yes you know it lol 😂
Nice explication
I love
Please kindly advise, the service B7 was done two days after service was due . Since then the service warning has been blocking the service ASSYST to proceed to reset. Kindly help me out on my Mercedes E350 2012 model. 9:25
Is the fuel filter a essential change on a service or can you do it by your own choice
I always say every 40k miles. They do block and cause lack of performance if not changed
One Auto, I’ve heard people say they’ve had problems changing them, is there anything else you need to do after fitting?
Nope not on this car
hi rob great video mate
Paul Mayou Cheers 🍻
hi on a "09" E250 cdi w212 doesthe fuel filter need changing every year?
The service items are always expensive on these! The price you pay to own a Mercedes I suppose. Bosch alternative on that fuel filter is around 40% cheaper than the Mann option!
what is a part number for Bosch ?
What a fantastic video
Thanks Desn
@@OneAuto if your ever doing front and rear discs on a e class that would be amazing
Many many thanks. A very instructive video. Could you make a video about changing brake pads and rotors on a w212 220 cdi?. Thanks in advance.
Will do, thanks 👍
Thanks to you. It's the best video showing how to do the maintenance. Even you show the filters references and interesting tricks (nice detail). I have the 2 questions: 1) What is the torque used for the oil sump screw?. 2) What type of oil do you recomend us (brand & grade)?.
Another good video would be how to change oil & filter in a mercedes w212 E220 cdi automatic gearbox. Would you do it?. Thanks in advance for your support.
Sump bolt on this one is 30NM & Oil spec Mercedes 229.51
One Auto, many thanks
Very good... thank you for sharing!
Cheers man🍻
Does this engine suffer from timing chain problems? I have heard a few rumours but not seen a bad one personally...
Personally not seen the Diesel engine but have the petrol versions
5:25 what's wrong with a plastic sump?
Great vids!Subscribed.
Nice video not seen much on a merc b4
Thanks 👍
Thank you
This is good engine? 😊
nah its shit, buy ford...pfft!!
good job mate.
Thank U sir for video.
Thanks for watching 👍
hi rob, my e220 cdi had the check engine light on few days ago and i don't wanna spent too much money to go down to the Mercedes dealership. try to sort it out myself, any suggestion
Could be on for a multitude of reasons. You don’t have to go Merc try a local shop with decent diagnostic equipment
Super prefect
I hate those oil filters, I prefer the "metal cylinder" type ones
lovely, thx
I agree with Terry way over engineered :) All them under body shields you would think its going into battle. HAHA Three O rings for the oil filter housing too. It must be a costly service . Cheers Rob
Well yes they are more costly than the average service but that's mainly due to the parts prices. A nice car though.
Easier to work on the Millennium Falcon I would presume. LOL
haha yes a lot easier... the fuel filters on them things are a bitch to get to 😂😂
Only one man who knows how to do many thinks...Deutsche youtube-bloger bitte lernen sie es...русским советую поучиться у англичанина! Thx Mr for the video from Berlin, from Russian with respect to you.
Hi Rob, where did you put a service data for this Merc ? Can I have an access to it ?
tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/current/passenger-cars/owners-area/tradepartner/TradePartner_Digital_Service.pdf
ok thanks will try to register
すごく参考になります!
excellent
That airfilter is almost as troublesome as my E60 530d, its a total faff to replace it.
This is definitely easier than the 530d
Perfect thanks!!
How many litres use?
I think my decision to stay away from German cars is a good one... From the looks of it that air filter could be original. You should have plugged in the scanner and see how many codes she threw Rob! 😂 Good stuff.
Yep it was certainly in need of that service! Cheers 🍻
a plastic sump! is that common now or is it just merc
There’s a lot going that way, even plastic engine sumps and plastic sump plugs 😯
Cool
okej super zajebisty
marek piątek Dziękuję Ci
I cringed watching you loosen the oil filter cap with claw. A band wrench and brake clean soaked rag (for grip) is much less likely to crack it.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i switched to knecht ever since i began to find more and more mann filters made in china
This makes me so jealous this is a CDI and not a bluetec.
I'm sure that service for parts alone was mega money. That air filter had more plastic than actual filter! And the fuel filter I'm sure was a bank loan job! To have the heater permanently attached is a money maker I'm sure, no other reason.
Way over engineered is correct, even having 2 undertrays to undo to do an oil change is mad!
The digital service book is good in practice, but awful for diyers or small garage who don't have the no doubt merc propierty software costing thousands to do it!
In fairness everyone's at it. My Ford Focus has more PC parts than mechanical ones. The whole thing is a web of crap sensors that will break and cost me money. I used to worry about big end bearings and valve seals now I spend most of my time worrying about un-clearable DTC codes and sub systems for sub systems. Don't even get me started on all the bs emissions engineered-in-failure points. Journal bearing turbos that spin at 250, 000 rpm and are at the mercy of the previous cowboy mechanic/owners decision to feed it Halfords own brand semi synthetic sump sludge .. with 12k service intervals. DMFs made of cheese, DPF that clog in a few hrs of town driving, EGR pumping carbon in to your inlet etc. Chrisstonastick.
A plastic sump??? Great, another piece that fail due to age and heat cycling. Really MB... Really...
W213
?? is the successor to the W212
👌
Thanks mate, you are the best, top man,I understand very clearly, not like others...cunts
Horrible job.
florescu dragos It’s not so bad
just saved £500
thanks
