The whole “absence of evidence” reference was what Donald Rumsfeld told the press when he was questioned about the lack of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq
@FlicksNFaves Almost the entire episode is supposed to be a satire of Bush era politics. From the exaggeration of the threat that terrorist attacks posed on Americans by the expert on TV, to basically the whole scene in the convenience store, this episode absolutely drips with contemporary political criticisms. And keep in mind, this season first came out in 2005. For the previous 4 years after 9/11, the Bush administration had enjoyed an approval rating of over 80%. That means over 80% of Americans, both Republican AND Democrat, would viciously defend Bush and his cabinet against any form of criticism of their actions, including the invasion of Iraq, labeling any dissenters as "terrorist sympathizers" and promptly expelling them from mainstream discourse. In this environment, wrapping your criticisms in allegory was really the only way you could get away with it, as any direct criticism of the president during that time would have ran the risk of the show being canceled. And I mean that literally, not how people "cancel" things today; I mean Cartoon Network would have actually stopped airing the show entirely.
@@joshbates9015 As someone who was unfortunate enough to wind up in that unnecessary war in Iraq, this episode has always been one of my favorites. That gas station scene alone calling out the absurdity of it in class in _Boondocks_ fashion was on point like crazy.

Woah. The insight is crazy 😭
@@Chillpill-ov6sw yes, this episode was really a allegory of the Iraq War
Where the hell did you learn that?👀
