Arsenal SLR107R or Cugir WASR10: Which AK Should You Buy & Why?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- With many people deciding to buy an AK recently, it seemed like a good idea to compare two of the 'lower' priced imported options currently available; as of April 2020.
Here we have the Arsenal SLR-107R from Bulgaria and the Cugir WASR-10 from Romania.
We talk about features they share, point out how they are different, and just generally give you an overview of both to hopefully make things a bit clearer.
We hope this video helps some of you out there who are currently in the market for a 7.62x39 Kalashnikov style rifle. If you have questions, please feel free to post them in the comments & we'll try our best to help.
Have a good weekend everyone, cheers.

Misha is, and always will be, the man.
Agreed
Don’t misgender misha. Maybe he identifies as a Nambu 🤷
Couldn't decide, I bought both
Same here about 5 years ago.
Ali BR how’d you buy a 107r 5 years ago? Haha
Only way to go
Good choice
Anyone else notice Misha got a new fridge lol?
Sam Cortez I got nothing better to do but notice
Man you are a late arrival it's been there for at least 6 months
well then happy belated congrats on the new fridge, earl must've been terrified
In short, cosmetically the wasr is a 'TRUE" AKM, other than the dimples.
Yup, exactly
@@misha5670 Wow,ive been noticed by misha. My life is complete.
THEY BOTH ARE
It’s more than cosmetically a true akm it has forged trunnions chrome lined chf barrel ect
Also in the case of the WASR 10/63's they're built from demilled select fire PM Md. 63 components, save for the receiver & barrel which are still Romanian milspec as mentioned previously, which puts it closer to being an actual "AKM". Certainly better than a PM Md. 63 parts kit built onto a US receiver with US barrel, US rivets, and incorrect spot welds. Out of all the Kalashnikov's I've owned, which is a fair amount, the WASR 10/63 has always been one of my top favorites as I'm mainly interested in milsurp.
I'll take my Romanian SAR-1 all day over a SLR 107R
I have a wasr 10/63 from the year 1963. Is that considered a good gun?
The Dude abides.
Hey Misha, love your channel :D big fan from Romania! at 1:00 Cugir is pronounced "Coojeer" Keep up the great job :D
@@stacheoperator No, it's a "J" as in Jeep
The mighty wasr for the win!! Take care guys! Everybody have a great quarantine day!
WASR every day, WASR all the way.
Not to talk bad about Arsenals at all but the WASR is very utilitarian, especially when you change out the retaining plate and upgrade the furniture. Then you have a life long AK that's g2g.
Misha you are a treasure your wealth of information is staggering and the fact that you share it so willingly is also a blessing to all!
Thanks for a great comparison and review as usual.
God bless you.
AKs my absolute favorite , ive had a saiga, a mak 90 and i still have an older Romanian import, always wanted an Arsenal, one day, one glorious day lol and i rlly like the side mount ad far as optics go , ive had good experiences with em anyways
Both are reliable and fun to shoot. the WASR is a true work-horse of a rifle and can take a good beating. IMO the WASR is the better value since they are much easier to obtain. for the price difference you can get a case of ammo and a few mags and still be at the same price of the Arsenal. but the Arsenal do shoot very nice and have a certain "feel" to them that the WASR's don't, the Arsenal just feels smoother some how. either way both are great options for a NO-BS AK rifle.

WASR-10 is better, it may not have the greatest fit and finish, but its reliable and accurate.
BoogalooBoy1776 lol 😂 no
I bought (2) WASR 10 GP in 2017, when the Arsenal SLR-107-11 was first made an available for a purchase for me. Almost got the Arsenal, just waited on a VEPR FM-47-21!! For @ 75 bucks more at that time, I got the WASR's. I have absolutely no regrets. Oh, and that included the FFL Fees!
Obligatory cat footage for the win!

Everytime almost lol
Bought a Vepr with my Emperor shekels.
Getting pretty rugged there Misha
I bought the Romanian AKMN-47 back 2004, and haven’t looked back .
I was just deciding on this very pair.
I chose a Wasr10. Plus 500rds, 3 bakelite mags, 4 steel mags and a romanian trigger hamer. Plus they are plentyful.
I heard the romanian hammer metal is much softer and wont deform the bolt carrier tail. Think its true?
@@HL-ll4zz I think so. I have older wasrs. I have the OEM hammer on all my imports.
@@Leman.Russ.6thLegion never heard of the OEM ?

I live in WA state and I just ordered this rifle a few months ago, once my background check clears in 6 months it will be mine lol
Call your local government and ask them to change the laws
I couldn't afford the arsenal ak so I got a wasr-10. Thanks to Rob Ski's review, that's one of the reasons I got one. I will get an arsenal ak one of these days.
Same
The WASR is a great choice, in it's current price range nothing else comes close to it. re-finishing the wood with stain makes them look amazing.
@@andyw237 the wood sucks. My aes 10b handguard fell off already
Yea im planning to change the wood out. That's what Rob ski and most other wasr-10 owners say to do it immediately
Mighty wasr wins again!
I just got my SLR107R
Frank Deckard love it! Worth the extra money
You said two key words with regard to the WASR 10/63 to me: military grade. Mine has the arrow triangle stamping and is a serial matching gun. Had mine since 2011 and it has been nothing short of outstanding.
Sone trainers use these as rentals and your head stories of them having 20-50k rounds through them with zero issues. Mine has had probably 5k through it. If I had to run out the door with a SHTF gun, it would be on my short list. Lots of the Century guns including mine use the Tapco G2 trigger, which is quite good. I’d get another but you have to inspect them to make sure they are straight.
I just got a 107r from ShootingSurplus, on GB, for $1024 shipped. I picked it up from my FFL last Friday. They sold 5 one after another for the same price. I’ll be shooting it for the first time tomorrow. From first inspection, it has a better fit and finish than my 104fr and 107fr. Finish is very even.
Misha, do you know anything about Arsenal contracting out their stamped gun production to Bulgaria ISD? If so have you been hearing about the production quality of late compared to earlier serial numbers?
Clay C They are made in the USA using Bulgarian parts (at least the parts that matter).
@@AKking530 Where are the Bulgarian parts being made now is what I am getting at.
@@clayc1287 A bulgarian here but not that big ofa gun enthusiast . Arsenal and ISD are different manufactureres. No idea who imports what in the USA, but there is more than one manufacturer in Bulgaria making ak parts.
Just picked up a 2019 WASR for $799 a month ago, was glad to find one in MN, pretty uncommon here. Arsenals nowhere to be found. Nice video 👌
I had my WASR 10 in 2006 for 320. I am just floored they are the 800 now. They used to be scorned now they are loved.
Had one ordered to MN recently myself, love my WASR!!
Check online carolina shooters supply has the arsenal 107 for $1000
Human SVD they had bad quality control back then. Plus with all the liberal gun snatches around. They’ll only keep going up
@@alexprince8679 I know, but they still worked then. And Chinese Norinco sks were everywhere. I just miss the old days is all.
Impulse bought the 107R and my numbers are 4 off from the one shown in your video. I also bought WBP's Fox and Mini Jack. Thank you for taking the time to make such informative videos!
Arsenal
Any thoughts on the ZPAP M70 coming soon? Will have 1.5mm receiver, chrome lined barrel and bulged reinforced trunnion.
Yes actually, stay-tuned
Misha any word on if they will have grenade launching sights with the gas port cut off
@GastonGross Agree, but the 1.5 mm look cooler. And as you know, looking cool is everything lol.
As of 2022the Arsenal has proven to be the muuuuuch better buy
I just bought a ZPAP92 with a folding brace, factory new. thanks Trump!
I've always question the whole milled gun thing is a pound heavier thing. Multiple times when I see people weigh out their Milled vs stamped guns (I've seen it on arfcom and Reddit), the guns end up being weighed simarly. One Reddit post weighed out a Wasr and a Sam7r and the measurements ended up being 7.2 pounds for Wasr and 7.6ish pounds for the sam7. Can you confirm or deny this with your own measurements? (I think they were unloaded for both)
Considering I've shipped many stamped and milled AKs, evenSLR107R vs SAM7R, yes i can confirm that the milled is heavier. Also keep in mind its not just the receiver that's heavier if you are comparing a traditional AK Type III and AKM. The barrel, furniture and even some small parts are all heavier as well.
I actually like the WASR better from personal experience.
Disclaimer: I own both.
Ew
@@orion000 man I own both. I'm speaking from the rifles I received. My wasr was of better QC. Bolt was smoother, trigger is better (the Tapco) and finish is better on the wasr. The slr is literal black paint.
THE MIGHTY WASR!!! MY favorite!!
@Shapiro Shekelberg aleichem shalom!
All the new wasr's I see have US furniture that I do not care for. I like my 2013 import date 1971 trunnion parts bin 10/63 better.
The wood on the newer production WASR's does look like shop scraps. they look much better with some dark stain and clear-coat though.
Stamped Arsenals are overrated and overpriced. I'll take a WASR anyday over an SLR 107R then use the extra money I saved to buy ammo.
The wasser are a great gun the only thing I really don’t care for is the finish because after you get done cleaning it , any lint from paper towels or anything that has any lint to it it sticks right to the receiver
I own a cugir wasr 10, and was literally JUST thinking about saving for a 107R. Crazy.
not a bad choice to add another AK to the collection, especially a bulgarian
not a bad choice to reinvest it in more magazines and ammo either
@@Kzummo arguably not the best time unless things get worse as you will be paying peak madness pricing. I recommend checking out the PSA AK-E 100% American made so you are keeping your neighbors working, and it is just an amazing weapon.
nothinhg wrong with spending the money on Arsenal...If you have it. You definitely don't need to spend over a grand to get a good AK, and for what Arsenals are going for I would look into a custom AK like a Rifle Dynamics, but for $1k or less I think you can do a lot worse then the PSA AK-E. & I would love to side by side compare the fit, & finish as well as the build quality, and accuracy of even a Arsenal milled rifle. Despite the excuses the paint doesn't blister off of my AK-E & they gave me a proper 30 round mag.

If you mean the Polish FOX, those look awesome! the wood is usually finished nicely, especially the "sunburst" orange wood ;-).
I was lucky enough to pick up one of the Bulgarian AK 74's the Century put together in the early 2000's when they were still available and reasonably priced.

The new import WASR's are a far cry from early ones. My first one was a total POS. Canted everything, crunchy trigger, just terrible. Sold it and bought a newer one about 8 years ago. MUCH better. Nice G2 trigger group, well put together.
I am one of a couple :)
I got an SLR107R from Kvar a few weeks ago and I love it. Thanks. My first AK
Arsenal SLR 107cr, smooth like a typewriter!
I have the 106CR and its a fun gun. Everytime i think of selling it off, we take it back to the range and then it goes back into the safe for another few months hahah.
Every WASR that I had was a turd. To be fair they were older WASRs, but they left a bad taste in my mouth. I wish I would have kept my old DDI AK, it was actually a fantastic rifle. But I bought a SLR107R and greatly prefer it over the WASRs.
Awh, i see your problem. You aren't supposed to put them and hold them in your mouth. Try using your hands; much better results I bet! hehe j/k
@@misha5670 Does no one else taste their AKs when nobody's looking? Guess its just me then, lol.
I have both the 107fr and a newer WASR. Love them both.
Mishaco is the best of the best hands down
Thanks for all your videos Mishaco. Been watching a lot of your videos for the last few years, specially the wasr ones, which inspired me to buy my own!
Just got a WASR as my first ak
Nice man ..an ak is like a classic hot rod ,made of all steel construction and has real wood grains there's really nothing else like it ,the true classics never die have fun man!
The wasr was my first AK back in November. I've gotten two more ever since and ain't planning on slowing down lmao
Great grab!
Pretty much any solvent will strip the paint off the Arsenals. If you care, then use CLP on the exterior.
Or just don't clean it...its an AK afterall right? (joking people, its a joke)
I only use CLP, the Bolt and Carrier finish wears off fast for some reason. otherwise the outer finish has done well so far.
I own 2 ak rifles, and it’s these two. I enjoy both of them.
Went to the local range on Sunday and they haven't had any AKs in months. All of a sudden they had two on consignment (Arsenal SLR107r, Polytech (never fired preban)) and a new Gen 2 WASR considering the prices I brought home the Arsenal. The WASR and Arsenal were priced similarly and the Arsenal came with two stocks, 34 rounds of ammo a hard case and multiple after market recoil springs. The Arsenal also had less than 100 rounds through it. The bolt still had all the cheesy Arsenal paint in tact.
I got the 2015 Wasr10 and an Arsenal Slr-104fr. I wanted an OG akm and a modern 74
Likewise
You got the ak bug, welcome to the club!!
I gave 850 for my slr-107r 2 years Ago
Just got a 2020 production WASR, would a SLR7 be a good investment for 1200 or will more be imported in the future? I don't wanna miss out like with the SAMs and milled AKs!
I can tell from history, no AK model has lasted forever as far as being imported. I'd just buy one and have it so when they stop getting imported, which will surely happen at some point, you'll have a collection piece.
@@POPJack1717 thank you bro. I sold the SLR107 for a Sam7SF . Now I want another SLR
love the ak platform but the price, hard to find , big dist. like atlantic never have anything in stock. and arsenal and the import games they play have cured me from the ak kool aid.
As of over 1 year later than my last post people want arsenals more.
The people have spiked.
Arsenals at least 1400 up, wasr10 still like 800-1000
You tell me why?
10 for the win 👍
The MIGHTY WASR!
Schrodinger's GAT hell yeah!!
One is none !
i feel like the scope rail mounts on AKM rifles are to keep people from drilling the third naughty pin hole, fuck the nfa fuck the atf, converting a semi automatic rifle into a machine gun without the intent to commit a violent crime is not a crime. its sad and tyrannical. full auto sear is actually a safety sear to prevent out of battery discharges, and hammer follows, and full auto is actually good to have for follow up shots, self defense, and competition shooting, and good fun with your friends at the range to mag dump into trash. there has no crime committed if its used for lawful innocent intent.
UA-cam: AK Grizzly Adams has now uploaded a video. 😂
Yikes!
Racked a rifle with an inserted mag then pull the trigger...
Wtf
I have a Russian SGL21 imported through Arsenal. In my opinion you can not beat the real deal country of origin AKs from Russia. Made on the same assembly line as the real Russian military AKs.
Checkout my Top 6 favorite/best AKs video I put out a year or two ago.
Just bought the 107R and during the furniture change the gas tube roller pin lock fell out. Misha, were can you find parts like this for AK's?
Again buy a wasr. What a joke. Arsenal needs to just go away. You should be able to get that part free from them but ill bet you anything that they will make you ship the rifle back and waste your time.
Arsenal looks better for sure.
The 107r was a steal of a deal and in direct competition with the WASR at the original price point. The prices now are just stupid. The QC problems posted on FB and AKfiles is a bit scary as well. They had a perfect rifle for the $799-$898 range , the $1,100+ tag now is just insane.
Bring back the 107frs please , you get more for the pricing.
Excellent video as always , great job
You aren't wrong
on the facebook "ak47 group" theres a guy showing his 2020 wbp fox, where his trunnion was able to be gauged out with a screw driver. thoughts on this? and kvar's qc has gone to shit, i've seen ras47's with better qc than the 107r's.
I'd go with the Arsenal because you'll always get what you paid probably more if you need to sell it someday.
Mike Winning very true
I love my arsenals
What about SLR107R vs WBP Fox
Arms of America now has wbp 5.56 ak parts kits in, an fyi
@Frank Deckard those are 100 to 150, you can find them
Wasr just needs a little love and a milled recoil spring assembly ❤
Arsenal doesn't make the 5.45 models anymore
Your my boy.
Great info thank you ! Would love to see a vid on the cleaning kits you prefer and that are less agressive on the gun !
I have both ! Can’t beat an arsenal there built like a tank all milled receiver ! Wasr 10 I had one for many years !
Just bought a Zastava! They are the best.
Was on the fence between those 2 exact rifles. Thank you sir.
A wasr duh. Do you want your ak with a who knows wtf it's made trunion to explode on you? Well my 107cr did. Don't fuck with any of the new Arsenal's. Mine died at around 5k rounds. Never heard of that or any trunion issues with a wasr.
Let me clarify. The sam7 is a bomb proof ak just too heavy for me but if you must have Arsenal that's the only one id buy or a older 107fr, 106fr, 104fr. Any newer 2017 and on stamped ak in 7.62x39 needs to be avoided like the plague.

I have never shot a wasr but i do have an Arsenal sam7sf. Its been my favorite for several years now.
So i would have to go to the Arsenal. By the way Misha im kind of digging on the 1960's beatnick look.
Its a bit of a running joke with my wife...or rather "malicious compliance' I suppose.
Molot Vepr or nothing
Increasingly more likely as "nothing" these days. Afterall, we're coming up on 3 years after the sanction, so NIB VEPRs are getting scarce.
I'd say go with the WASR. I'm sure I will get a lot of laughs but I purchased a Sam7. Damn thing cost me $2k after everything. Bought it from Atlantic Firearms and the thing shows up with horribly canted front sight. I can deal with a little cant but on a $2000 AK it better be minimal. Nope, sight is far right as possible and the post is as far left as possible. I reached out to Atlantic and they told me that because I live in California my warranty was voided the instant I took possession of the gun. Of course, this information is not listed in the WARRANTY section but a separate link titled Ca Compliant. Imagine spending $2k on a rifle and find out the warranty is voided because the AUTHORIZED dealer (a big one at that) sold these as Ca compliant. The rational for this is the firearms are "altered", so a Ca Compliant fin grip and a 10rd mag voids the warranty of your $2000 Arsenal pos. Seriously, Hi-Point stands behind it's firearms better than Arsenal.
I have both the 107 pulls smaller groups but both are great
The wasr is milspec.
I already have a wasr. Thought about getting a Arsenal 👎🏾. Looks like my next AK will be a zastava 556.
I love these videos, keep it up Misha, you are doing good things for the AK fans!
Just bought the Arsenal SLR107R. Can't wait till it gets to my FFL. I do want to get wood furniture. Anyone have a link to some good furniture? Thanks for the input.
Slr-107 and Sam-7sf all the way
The bulgarian is better quality
So I have a original Arsenal SLR-95, all black with a sporter stock and muzzle brake. I bought it original in California before the gun law changed. I don't shoot people or animals, this gun is just for fun, shooting targets. The rounds are so cheap compared to other rifles. It is just a great reliable fun plinking gun for me. My dad fought in Vietnam, shooting this gun brought a tear to his eye, to him it it was the enemy
Try the 500 mag baby

Hello thanks for the info. Great content.
Can I powder coat my wasr 10?
Thanks
I just picked up one SLR 107R from the latest batch from KVAR. Its horrible quality. Both the stock and the sights are canted in relation to the receiver. I had to max out the front sight all the way to the left in order to zero it and it is still slightly off. I bought 5 circle 10 mags for it, and they dont fit the magwell. If the factory mags dont fit the SLR, you know there was zero quality control done on it. I emailed KVAR but they ignore me.
To be far regarding those mags, when the poly over steel waffles are brand-new, they are intentionally oversized slightly. With a bit of break in though, they start to fit a rifle tight be still in/out easily. With my SAM7R when new, they fit very snug in it too.
What serial number batch is it? Just got mine and it is serial number AB 60xxx and it seems straight
@@connorbartolucci9794 My serial starts with a 59
@@misha5670 They are impossible to get in at all, not just tight. The magwell is way to thin to even insert them. Regular steel mags are also very tight. I Also tried magpuls, and those barely go in.
I believe that means it was made in 2019. hmm
I just could never get into the WASR. Maybe it's because nack 15 yrs back they were teally crap. Of course back in the day you could pick up a Saiga sporter for $169 and convert it yourself . Of course the first Saigas had no dimples either.
