You sir, are doing Mahkloompah's work. I almost started working on my next mod in the old school way due to the toolkit being one of a mess to navigate. With this series I can enjoy the comforts of modern technology.
Hi Doc! I have a question about a spell or action called mindsteal which is used by the gyth inquisitor. Somehow I just don't know how to make it work for both the target and the caster himself. The links are there but it only boosts the inquisitor(not even in that mountain map) instead of the caster himself.
I would look more around the Boosts field for something that also operates on the character. Are you sure it is not affecting your character? Before the toolkit, I noticed that sometimes effects would occur, but would not be reflected clearly in game. I eventually just gave an ability some crazy amount of bonus something to confirm that it was working as it was supposed to and then scaled it after confirming that
@@vickent2475 Gotcha, I'm sadly not sure how to address that. I'd personally reach out to the modding discord (there should be a link on the BG3 mods reddit page). Folks can sometimes be prickly there (why I don't personally use it, aside from not having time), though there seem to be enough folks that are willing to help too. If you find a solution, let me know and I'll be sure I give you credit if I release a video on it
Hey, I'm making a class in the Toolkit - currently with one passive and two abilities. On the CC screen, neither active ability is listed as a 'Class Action', and the two are in separate 'Action' sections, which is weird. One is using the Throw 'spell' as a template, which probably explains why it's listed as a general ability. Do you have any tips on where abilities are categorized as class abilities?
I have had difficulty making them show up too. My guess is that a character creation file has to be created that lists the supplemental passives and abilities. I have not yet gotten around to that bit (it is a detail and I am still covering videos that cover general topics). In the UUID Editor, you should be able to explore that file a bit and experiment. Let me know if you sort it out and I can make a video, ensuring you get ample credit.
@@ImADoctorNotA I have made some progress on this front, class abilities must be denoted ‘level 0’, and function identically to spells, but make sure ‘isSpell’ is False, or they get listed as cantrips! Have run into new issues since, it’s kind of exciting getting into modding when resources are still relatively scarce. Thanks for the reply and for doing such good work with these tutorials.
@@TheLightKeeperNZ Great! Thanks for letting me know, I've been wondering about that too. The scarcity of documentation makes modding that much more satisfying when you finally get things to work. Be sure to share your mods once you put something out there :) When I get to the video on having spells show up on CC, I have already logged your current username to ensure you get credit
Trying to make a custom passive and I cannot find any classes past level 5, I want to borrow Brutal Critical from Barbarian Level 9 or Savage Attacks from Half Orc, the one that gives +1 damage dice on crit, but I cannot find anything in the progression table past 5 or half orc in the races table, any ideas?
Try looking in the "Gustav" or "SharedDev" folks. I don't know why, but Larian seems to have spread the different levels across multiple game folders. My guess is that they separated the levels based on the early access vs full game release. If you are still having a hard time finding the entries, let me know and I can organize a short video
@@ImADoctorNotA Found it, now im having trouble with Paladin Auras, is there an easier way to search in the toolkit? Id like to search all tables for all instances of a single word, thatd be useful
@@SlycerZ Sadly, not. You can refer to the tables that I included in my tool, Polymath, up on Nexus, that organizes everything and tells you in which folder they are in. I don't maintain it any more, but I made the files with Patch 6, so it should contain everything
@@SlycerZ Glad to hear it! I posted the custom spell tutorial on my Patreon for patrons if you want early access. Otherwise, the video (and free access to the text tutorial) will be ready probably on Saturday/Sunday. Be sure to share what you make :)
Hey there, new fan, you inspired me to try my hand at modding :) I made a class with Polymath and I cant get to level 2. When I try to level up its just a black screen, no matter what I press nothing happens but I can go back. Its an Original class/subclass, I picked the custom feat too. Didnt add any custom spells, passive or items. Big thanks Edit: also how do you add Channel divinity points. spellslots are ActionResource(SpellSlot,10,1) but how do you write for divinity, action and reaction?
Did you add progression entry for each level? (Even the ones where you don't get anything) as for edit, look into Cleric class and copy ti from there :D
Thanks for chiming in, Nerazmus! I would personally shift to the toolkit at this point. Polymath will still technically work, though the Toolkit will be easier to work with (and there will be fewer unforeseen consequences) long-term. Ultimately, you need to code a progression entry for each level, as Nerazmus said. If you'd like to see a video on how to add goodies at each level in the Toolkit, let me know and I can stick it on the list. Happy to do what I can to make modding easier for folks!

Mahkloompah be praised! Stay tuned, the fish god has decreed I focus on BG3, so videos will continue coming out :)
Will you be making a video on how to make custom spells?
Yes! Only a question of when, which is determined by votes. Be sure to follow my community page to contribute!
+1 for a Tutorial on how to Bind the Passive to an equipment
Stuck it on the list!
I would be very interested to know what the other fields do
Added to the video suggestion list!

@@ImADoctorNotA No, the caster doesn’t get the status effect(boost AC and psych damage), only the targets have the mindlink status.
