If you told me in 1994 that the guy from Hootie and the blowfish would be covering a Metallica song in 25 years I would call you nuts!
Yet here we are, and its fantastic!
If you told me in 1994 that the guy from Hootie and the Blowfish would first become a country music artist and then cover Metallica - as a country song - I would have just about crapped myself laughing. But man is this ever awesome!
I love the Miley Cyrus/Elton John version of this, too.
I had a girlfriend in high school that was really into Hootie, so we went to a concert, I liked them okay, but at one point between songs they jammed a little bit of the beginning of Master of Puppets and my respect for them grew instantly, lol
I never really followed Darius' career. After this I went back and looked - he's done some great stuff since the Hootie days.

I've heard Chris Stapleton's cover and it sounds like a man seeking vengeance. This version sounds like a man reminiscing about his sorted past. Its interesting that 2 Country covers of the same song can give me two completely different vibes. Especially since I don't listen to a lot of Country music.

I love me some Stapleton…..however hearing some of his other covers I was almost angry. The amount of work and craftsmenship he put into prince, aretha Franklin, Allman brothers and James Brown covers was immediately evident. Groundbreaking, genre smashing kinda stuff. His version on the blacklist felt incredibly lazy in comparison to what we all have heard him create…..and we’ve all heard him do it live so it’s not studio re-takes and soundboard magic.

Darius: I have seen You and Hootie play 17 times since 1995. I also saw your concert for Ben Carson in Baltimore singing Sinatra. You are truly the king of the covers. This is the first song from The Blackliste that I have heard all over. This is my favorite ..
You NEED to hear Miley Cyrus' cover, with Yoyo Ma, Elton John and others
Out of all 53 songs on the album, this is by far my favorite, and honestly, probably the best on the whole thing, some of the artists tried to change the songs too much, and ended up completely butchering them, which is a shame, because the concept for the blacklist album was such a good one.
