As clean and good as this performance by both artists is and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, Darius is holding back. And for that matter, Adele is carefully measured herself, but she is appropriate for both the event, and her fellow artist with whom she’s performing. She’s a real pro. As a singer myself, I perceive that Darius Rucker probably didn’t have enough time to sing through this song enough to make it his own. It is not quite his style but he rose to the occasion and did a commendable job. I love his style and his voice, and his musicianship is pretty well flawless. But he is a little stiff and holding back. His vibrato is not his customary silky smooth flowing voice and is a little strained. That said, I have tremendous respect for what a great job he did even though it doesn’t feel 100% at ease. There are no off-pitch times for either one and their rhythm is perfect and their synchronization is perfect. They’re both real pros. Nevertheless, I can feel a little stiffness for both of them. It is a wonderful tribute. I also believe that Adele is more comfortable with this song than he is, and even she is a little bit measured. It’s still a great job and I’m really glad they did it, my two honest cents sense.
