I guess the Charger was a more practical platform to build performance into, the Challenger is more of a big boat for stylish cruising? I guess?
@@JanG859 They almost weigh the same. The Charger usually weighs a couple hundred pounds more than the Challenger tbf. The real answer is probably driver input and the transmission. New Chargers only come in auto vs. the Challenger, which can be had with a stick. Unless you're channeling Andretti, the auto shifts quicker. Hands down. But the point is, compared to the 86, the Mopars are bigger and heavier. 2800+ lbs vs 4000+ lbs. If you've never driven either; You can snap an 86 around much quicker than a Hellcat. It's very light. But you'll reel an 86 in a Hellcat in a straight stretch.
@@JanG859 the performance is just about the same, same engine, motor, chassis, etc. But I think the overall styling of the charger is more aerodynamic compared to the challenger (which just like you said is a big boat) so that probably gave it the upper hand

Kind of looks like a budget F type. I had a 2015 brz and loved that car! Even with the terrible torque dip! Really was a blast to take spirited turns even through the city! Also, hilarious intro! Can relate
Love mine. They dyno stock at 245hp. Toyota definitely under sold its ability. Their performance exhaust sounds great. More practical than an MX5. Actually has a usable trunk. I can easily get a guitar and amp in there. Highly recommend if you can get your hands on one.

That’s exactly the problem with this car. It’s too vanilla and boring looking now just like an old civic. Previous models had edgier better looking styling. Cheaper too. No compelling reason to buy a new one over used at all.
But I do agree, the new civics with all the wings and convoluted busy front air dams look ridiculously stupid and overdone to the point of embarrassing actually. I lol every time I see one.
Looks are subjective. I think this looks more aggressive, sculpted, and elegant all at the same time. Not to mention a much better powertrain, a stiffer lower chassis, and much needed interior update and refinement. Definitely a lot of compelling reasons to upgrade.@@user-tb5ns7hc5i

Probably the best intro yet. While not an FR, I too have an under-powered track toy so I can very much relate. I proudly bring to the track (the DDT at the CTMP) my now classic ‘93 del Sol Si. With a full suspension, brake and chassis upgrade, the little FF 2-seater sports a 185whp GSR swap and Type-R LSD making it a thrill to drive. It corners like it’s on rails and occasionally embarrasses “faster” cars in the corners. However, during open lapping events I find myself running with the “advanced” group due to my experience on the track. Signalling the GT3’s and M3’s to pass can be a bit of a killjoy. Keep up the spectacular work, gents!
Yes! An ND Miata vs. the new 2022 GR86! That's exactly what I wanted to see. I have an ND, and I'm in the market for a GR86/BRZ because I want to have the 2 extra seats for my 2 toddlers, but I didn't want to feel like I was going to a slower car (I know it's slow to begin with, but I mean slowER), and that looks like it's a pretty similar experience--but with some small back seats. Thanks!
Lovely! After owning a BRZ for so many years, nothing else pleases me except a 100K Cayman GT4. So glad they kept it NA. Already ordered a GR86 to put myself in line for an allocation
Not sure why your videos make me laugh and cry, but keep up the great work. I’m looking for a midlife crisis car and it is either this or the MX5. It’s great that Toyota still make this car and I’m amazed by the lap time, well done.
i have a midlife crises too. im turing 40 in a few weeks and i feel sad. like something is missing. maybe i need to get a new car. i have a 2014 FRS and im loving this 2022 GR86. im torn b/n a mx5 and 86 tho. mx5 cost a bit more. im thinking of trading in my old FRS for one of these newere cars
@@badboy-gn8fu Both great cars and I don’t see too many of either on the road. I’d say the MX5 is more of a rare sight on Sydney roads. It’s either these or go down the hot hatch route. Something appealing about being able to drop the top on a nice day and not having to spend big money on a convertible makes me lean toward the Mazda.
I work at a car storage facility that regularly has Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, etc, parked out front. But im always surprised at how many people walk past them and go over to my GR86 and take pictures of it instead. Makes me really feel like i made the right choice.

@@x-tremegt860 The dodge is heavy and wouldn't have faired well in the twisty sections. I don't know much about dodges, anyone care to explain why the Charger performed better than the Challenger?
@@JanG859 The Charger has a better weight distribution, more towards the rear, so it can actually put the power down more and be more stable round the corners.
On top of that, the Charger is also more aerodynamic, well the effects of this is pretty minimal, but it counts.
Thomas turning his back on his Canadian heritage with the "Bee-Are-Zee" instead of "Bee-Are-Zed" pronunciation.
Great intro and yes - still underpowered.
100% the people that named it BRZ pronounced it Zee. BRZed doesn't roll off the tongue at all lmao
Underpowered maybe but a lot better than the last car.
If it had more power it would be a hell of a lot more expensive.
Pffff. It has the exact same power to weight as my old V8 Lexus, and that thing moves pretty good. The BRZ/86 gearing is bound to be better too. It's not underpowered unless you're trying to flex for other bros.
I disagree; he called the 370 the 370 zed
I'm so happy that Toyobaru still make affordable rwd coupes in the 2020's
They aren't really affordable almost $30k for a base with no turbo is terrible.
@@hatch450sx3 For a sports car it's pretty damn good. The Supra in my country is over $100k, the GR Yaris (not that I'd want one) is over $50k. A base MX-5 is over $45k. Assuming the premium version of this car is going to be about $41k I'd say is pretty good. Put a turbo on this thing I would imagine it going up to $65k - $70k.
@@IsaacA192 for your country it may be good and if it is more power to you all 28hp of it lol j/k. Seriously though there is no way with a turbo motor it would be over 33k base. In the us I mean I'm. Not sure how much this car is where you are now.
@@hatch450sx3 Now 30k is considered "unaffordable".
@@GT-RTData9 you are insane if you don't think 30k is a small sum of money. Again I'll say it I drive a 38k 19 Camaro SS. But 30k is still 30k.
Outstanding video as always. I realized I don’t fast forward your videos like I do on other youtubers as your videos are informative from start to end.
Looking at your helmet i just realized you're officially the second most famous Tom Holland
"and quite a lot of messing around."
James: **bonk**
I fast forward through almost every channel’s intro. Never these cats. I live for the bonk.
@@WaitingforUlcers same 😂
That shit would've hurt so bad without that helmet
Which episode has the bonk??
@@whiskey_icarus ...the one with the i8. search their channel for "BMW" or "i8". It's actually really good...
I'm so glad they didn't screw this car up. Faster in a straight line, still amazing on track, low weight and price. I can't wait to drive one of these myself.
GR86 also looks amazing from the front
Haha low price
@@aaronp9835 Yes it is low priced, tell me another brand new car that is 2+2, front engine, rwd, track ready sports car.
@@CruiseControl1 this is true. but its still pricey. Id rather get me a 3,000 350z that i could beat on and not feel bad about it
@@CruiseControl1 look up premium model price then compare it to a lt1 V8 Camaro for the same price. Not even close car is slow af. Should have been turned. But Subaru knows they in deep shit w turbos. They can't keep a turbo motor of their off of a class action lawsuit. For 2k usd more you can get a Honda type r that wipes the floor with it and has 2 more doors AND A TURBO.
They fixed everything wrong with the old one, and kept the good stuff. Love it.
@Adam West yeah, I'd trade it. Lots more parts are aluminum, engine is basically hot rodded and I like the stiffening of chassis and thr Gr86 looks a lot more. The old one was good but that engine was crap.
The no handle door panel is the only way I can drive it being super tall, really appreciate they did that. The FRS and the MR2 spyder had giant handles that made steering quickly very difficult constantly hitting my knee.
This was the first video i watched on the new Twins
My BRZ has arrived finally. Thank you for being the best youtube channel. I love all your videos
This is probs one of the best cars to have as a first car for fun
I can't wait until you guys get your hands on the newest Nissan Zed
I cant wait 😆
You realize that zed is just how Canadians pronounce the letter Z right? You don’t have to type out zed it would just be Nissan Z
@@G4LStudios yup. Fully realized.
Zeds dead
Too bad that my ND2 RF lost by a nose. It was fun hanging out with you guys. Thanks for the Gatorade, pizza and wings!
Thanks for coming out!!
@@ThrottleHouse call me any time that you need an ND2! See you at the next Miata BBQ.
It honestly looked like a tie to me. And considering the ND2 lead for most of the race I wouldn't call that a loss at all.
@@TheChimples it really was a photo finish. The Throttle House crew had to view the footage to make a determination. We couldn't tell from the start line!
I think the lap times kept getting worse after 1 lap is tire pressure related. PS4S's I get 1 OK pass, 1 slightly better pass from heating up, then runs 3, 4, 5, and 6 I have to continually remove 1-2 PSI every run.
Yup, I've been thinking the same for while, GR86 is my favorite car at the price point, and was hoping this would be a positive review. Thanks for your video.
"Booming" or what the rest of the world calls Droning 👍
The rear end looks like an Acura NSX but in 360p. lol. but that intro was the best yet.
I actually really like the interior. Simple, modern enough and has everything you need to have fun and drive it every day if you want.
I’m sure I watched this when it was first released. I either missed or forgot the “no torque dip” gag. So wonderfully stupid - made me chuckle and groan at the same time. Don’t ever change boys. Don’t ever change.
poor car already has a dent on the driver door near the fender vent.... good shot of it on 1:55... so sad :(
This is the funniest channel I have ever seen. You guys are hilarious, especially your intros
first timer or wut???
Kind of looks like a budget F type. I had a 2015 brz and loved that car! Even with the terrible torque dip! Really was a blast to take spirited turns even through the city! Also, hilarious intro! Can relate
James going "BBBUUUUHHHHHHHHH" was something I never knew I needed
Love mine. They dyno stock at 245hp. Toyota definitely under sold its ability. Their performance exhaust sounds great. More practical than an MX5. Actually has a usable trunk. I can easily get a guitar and amp in there. Highly recommend if you can get your hands on one.
That sparkle @ 7:58 really loved the attention to detail there. And nothing to say about the intro. Epicness! 😁
In ten years I’m still going to be watching you guys and laughing til my gut hurts. Cheers!
Today I learned geese don't sweat.
This fact is useless, and I was already fairly certain of this.
Thanks James!
Seriously, I love these vids!
Savage geese sweat
A lot of animals don't sweat, sweating is mostly a mammal thing
Loved the “goh” noise of the engine that was described perfectly. Drag race was good to see wondered how much faster GR86 was in a draggy race.
Before watching the video clicked like. After watching, all I can say is you guys don't miss with the content. Perfectly put together, funny, and good quality. Keep it up guys
Owned a 2012 and loved it.
This update makes me want another.
Always love to watch Throttle House, review is fun while complete at the same time
I love the both gr86 and mx5 these are two legends.
This car looks so good. The civic could take some styling queues from Toyota.
Definitely a lot of compelling reasons to upgrade.@@user-tb5ns7hc5i
@@user-tb5ns7hc5iaccept for the torque dip in the engine.
In my opinion they really nailed it with this car. It looks so much better than the old one and kept it´s spirit, well done Toyota! 👍
"choosing one of them is like choosing a favorite child" i laughed so hard at this, little cheeky comments like this is why I keep watching y'all's videos even though I've given up on modern cars.
Amen, fellas...you guys are the best Canadian automotive content on the web IMHO, keep up the good work!
“Ok, let do some exterior shots for the intro…. Oh, get one of that adaptive headlight twerking!”
"Something only my dad seems to have mastered" 😂 - great video!
You guys are the absolute best at this
That exhaust sound imitation by James 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks!
Yeh i hope i can get 4 and 7 year old in the bk?!
best opening you've done for a while loved the vid lads
the old one looks 20 years old next to the new one. The update has been one of the best visually for a car maker in years.
Love this platform. Never into cars, but this did it.
the new one looks great! a bit more purposeful and aggressive without being too out there.
Lovely! After owning a BRZ for so many years, nothing else pleases me except a 100K Cayman GT4. So glad they kept it NA. Already ordered a GR86 to put myself in line for an allocation
How? You can only order BRZs right now
@@chaseeason6789 my bad, the wording. I put a deposit to "line up" for one. The pre-order thing.
@@gtmotivenft gotcha. Yeah, that's what led me to order a BRZ as no one really knows when you'll even be able to order an 86.
This is the best episode you guys have ever made. Very reminiscent of some classic Top Gear.
was thinking the same, the track, the commentary, the music, the editing, feels so familiar
You two have the best openings of any car show. The whole show is the best!!!
Picked up my 2024 GR86 a few months ago and it still feels so fun driving like it was the first day I picked it up 🤘
Not sure why your videos make me laugh and cry, but keep up the great work.
I’ve never clicked so fast in my entire life 😂😭

I still have a blast driving my '13 BRZ. Even if, I admit sometimes, it is a little awkward pulling away a bit slow from the lights.
I work at a car storage facility that regularly has Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, etc, parked out front. But im always surprised at how many people walk past them and go over to my GR86 and take pictures of it instead. Makes me really feel like i made the right choice.
I like how it’s considered “affordable.” I looked at one today that was marked up to almost 38k. They wanted 5k down and $800 month. I’m absolutely tired are car prices raising dramatically. Everything post Covid has been shit. Wish we could buy direct from manufacturer.
This depends on where you live. I am in Virginia - got my premium 86 for MSRP. 33k, 0 markup. Though I totally agree with you that we should be able to skip the nonsense middle-men of stealerships.
