I had the privilege to see Jimmy Degrasso with Suicidal Tendencies on the Suicidal for Life Tour. The greatest live drumming performance I ever saw. I sat stage side just like this video and was blown away. The sound was amazing, it was out doors and the sun had just went down. To this day I still hear that drum sound in my head. I loved the drum work on the World Needs a Hero. Lucky for me I live in San Jose and got to meet him in his Drum shop (San Jose Pro Drum) where he sold me a Navy Blue Sparkle Pearl Reference Pure Drum Kit that I will Cherish forever. Jimmy Degrasso is among the elite all time great drummers of our era.
Every time I see Degrasso playing drums I remember how important is to sound clean without losing punch and energy. The pier on his feet is remarkable, he doesn't need triggers! Yes! ( It seems that the world speed and triggers are each other........ That's why those drummers sound like heartless computers, their vibes don't say anything) Degrasso shows us the importance of punch combined with speed.
He never played at any clinic of his i attended . His shop assistant knew my name after giving bozzio a copy of my book. Several big names i met at jimmys
I've always thought Jimmy had a superb ear for playing the right thing at the right time for the song. Great blend of drum chops and musicality. Seems even great drummers tend to fall more toward one side than the other. Degrasso also finds that perfect balance.
I seen his clinic in Regina, Sask Canada a few years ago. Was really good, only a handfull of people so it made it even better. They served beer at the clinic which was in an older building that hosted shows and bands. Some dick head showed up drunk and kept yelling more double bass! Question and answer period was followed by... Play more double bass! He was removed after that... ha
This guy gets a lot of shut and lack of recognition for being the drummer that came after Nick Menza... but he’s a monster! I would’ve like to see what megadeth would sound like if he had stayed. He is for sure a million times better than Drover.
I don't understand how nowadays peolple that think get the reason for something that they're wrong in the sense of style of heavy metal and subgenre, Megadeth is a band of Metal that they have advenced inside their style album by album, that's the fact! any drummer that have been in Megadeth is because his level as the musican is the perfect and nothing else, and now people say that Megadeth isn't thrash but fusion and any bullshit...please peolpe, all bands have their story and Megadeth in one!
Megadeth is NOT thrash, it's speed/fusion. Gar Samuelson DEFINED the sound of the first two albums with his dynamic hi-hat and double bass playing and insane rhythms. Menza is just an average beat-the-shit-out-of-the-drums guy, you can find millions of those anywhere. Vinnie Colaiuta was only hired to record one album, and was NOT a member.
Jonas O Yup, tis a sick groove. Jimmy is very “regimented” in his playing - very tight and clean rudiments, hard hitter, on-point and powerful, fast and furious double bass fills, and he really draws out the “crack” of the snare. He grew up on jazz and fusion, and you can hear it in his technique, chops, and overall approach. A great hard rock/metal drummer of the old-school. 👍
vinnie was taken as an exemple, you can-t compare drummers with different styles and grooves!! Mensa is a better thrash drummer than jimmy, and jimmy kicks Nicks ass in tecnical skills, so? Nick and gar was way better than jimmy in the thrash or Speed fusion as you call it. Nick is just beating the shit of the drums? by that statement you told all in here how little you know about drumming, Talking to you is just a waste of time,
You just regurgitate the opinion of the majority. Shawn Drover is the worst drummer Megadeth ever had. Menza comes in second. I know little about drumming? Almost funny.

He may be “underrated” compared to some, but rest assured, the pros in the drumming and broader music world are well aware of Jimmy and his talent.
Yeah I appreciate your memories man, I loved Jimmys work on Y&T’s Contagious album, some of the best drumming I’ve heard

He is a complete drummer.
One of the best megadeth drummers up there with Nick and Gar rest in peace
you mean y&t. drummer. he is awesome
@@StanJenkins_ he was in y&t. before Megadeth
His She-Wolf Solo on Rude Awakening was too epic.

My favourite drummer, he´s just amazing.
Hope to see him doing new stuff soon.

He never played at any clinic of his i attended . His shop assistant knew my name after giving bozzio a copy of my book. Several big names i met at jimmys
This is the only metal drummer i seen with soul

@@AllOriginal5150 Bill Ward, Clive Burr, Nick Menza, Mikky Dee just to name a few
If you read the comments Jimmy. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Yes, he is very musical.
I agree, though I think he can overplay at times. But yeah, he’s a great drummer and musician all around.
He is truly amazing!
I like his style , not my favourite but he is really good !
He's a beast!
I look at it this way...if ANYONE had to replace Mr MenZa, then Thank God it waZ Mr Jimmy DeGrasso 🥁
Awesome idea on his "solo" break tells you a lot how he thinks, CHOAS ENDING loved that
This is so cool my wolf plushie is named after jimmy the rev Sullivan in honour and memory of him and you have his name and this is awosme .
A soothing drumming style unlike modern drumming which relies solely on speed and triggered double pedal.
I liked Nick in Megadeth, but this makes me wonder what if Jimmy was in Mettalica?
jrlefty67 At the very least the drumming in Metallica would be 50 times better. That much is certain. ;)
he is a monster yeah
Both are good, but they will never beat Jimmy, he's a god at drums.
Jimmy ! Theresa loved u all your life !
Tiene un lenguaje único, y un touch muy rockero y sólido
I hear Hangar 18 there lol
Ahh that groove at 2:02 so damn powerful !!

So when jimmy was in Megadeth, it sounded better?
I was there

much THANKS for Rude dvd
Absolutely K I L L E R \m/
Agreed, till I’ve watched RA, I’ve thought Nick was best Megadeth drummer, but not.
JIMMY IS AMAZING !!!
End of solo is a like the paradiddle saint🤓

Totalmente de acuerdo contigo Miguel...
Este tipo es un monstruo
He should audition for DT
Holy shit.. this guy is nearly as good as me.
what song is this?

He overplayed with y&t that's for sure

He's so amazing! I really liked it when he was with Megadeth. But when he plays BSR / Thin Lizzy songs he sounds so inferior to Brian Downey's skill.
degrasso bores me. it's nothing personal, his playing just doesn't move me
You should've seen him when he drummed for SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.... TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
He’s very technical and can be “machine-like” so I hear ya. I’m a sucker for his style though so I respectfully disagree. :)
@@AllenSJ5 I love his style, for example 2:02 - brutal attack!! 🤘

A great hard rock/metal drummer of the old-school. 👍
Jimmy is more a dream theater style drummer, the tecknical type. but he is no Thrash drummer!
Shit sandwhich anyone?

Boring song 😞😞😞
All snare...... sounds to repetitious! Sorry
