    What's amazing about the Orville overall is that Seth pulled a complete bait and switch with the network. He sold them on "Family Guy in Space" and sure, the first couple episodes really lean into that kind of humor. But VERY quickly it becomes a much more thoughtful, clever, and sincere show. One that is less a parody of Star Trek, and instead a loving homage to what made that series so adored. Absolutely worth a full watch.

They're paranoid and terrified it'll happen again so exterminating all possible enslavers is the only good solution they come up with. Show them that there is another way and they will take it.
      The Borg on the other hand act not out of self preservation but ambition. They want to be perfect, to bring everyone into their collective, to integrate everyone's technology into their own. That's not really something you can suddenly hand waive away. Maybe temporarily like in Voyager in the face of a greater threat but the moment that's gone, the Borg will go back to their old ways. He/She/It knows how much Charly hates the Kaylons, so the Primary couldn’t “put two and two together” why someone who’s open with their animosity towards them would “countermand” their own self-preservation. Charly’s sacrifice is what proves to him/her/it that the Kaylon’s original conclusion about the Union and the biologocals that comprise it is wrong. The Kaylon are a perfect example of how even when you think everything you do is based on logic, and unbias, the thing we go through will bias us. We will see the solutions that we presume are the most logical because that is just how it is. Issac has taken true good as part of his mathematics because it is what he has been exposed to, and the Kaylon have for a long time taken only that organics cannot be trusted because it's what they where exposed to.

      It even highlights confirmation bias. Pointing at "Catcher in the Rye" as why humans are just like their creators when there are just as many, if not more, instances of how such things are repugnant to humans. I take similar issue with those atheists that try to claim the moral high-ground while claiming it is all logic: logic is highly determined by underlying base assumptions. You can logic your way into deciding nothing you do matters because you are the only entity in existence and all else is a figment of a board mind.

There has been the odd light joke here and there but each episode has been an emotional gut punch. Overall the show has been amazing. But I'd like to have the odd light hearted silly episode like they do in star trek now and then.

    If this was the last season I have to say I've really enjoyed this series a lot. As an old TNG fan the Orville was closer to Gene Roddenberrys idea for star trek than Descovery and Picard imo. I loved the character developments and how friendships grew and changed, I loved the random stories each week instead of the season big bad, I loved how it felt you were out in space exploring instead of being ferried around, I loved how they put modern day issues into the story's but set them in their universe and time and let you figure it out instead of ramming their agenda on you.
    I enjoyed it and hope we get more.

      @DoremiFasolatido1979 Рік тому

      @@Tamamo-no-Bae No, it stayed hamfisted, but it got better at burying it in flair. The actors also ultimately found their rhythm, and that always makes a show better, too. Star Trek has never been about letting anyone come to their own conclusions. They have clear events with clear "good" and "evil" and an outcome that almost always favors the "good". And then they wax philosophical at the end as if there's somehow subjectivity and uncertainty to it, when there never was, and leave a question clearly answered by events, unanswered in dialogue as if that somehow mattered by that point.
      And to be fair...I'm fine with that. Because while sometimes their reasoning was deeply flawed, they were still generally correct about what is good and what is evil. Even The Orville does it. They've been practically braining people with bricks on how societies of religious zealots are outright evil (with minor exceptions), and that all the "wokeness" everyone gets their testicles in a twist over is inherently good.
      And they're mostly correct. Such as with the very clear issue with the Moclans and the LBG...(I have no fuckin clue how many letters there are now) community, and how the Moclans were patently wrong for forcibly changing the sex of female children. Or, for shaming and even murdering Moclan males who are attracted to females. They themselves don't really understand why they're correct, but lucky for them, others do. Nobody in any of the "movements", mind you, but some others outside of most commonly known groups and their opposing groups.

    • @Tamamo-no-Bae
      @Tamamo-no-Bae Рік тому +1

      @@DoremiFasolatido1979 Those stories are open to interpretation. A flat conclusion is not beaten into you by actual woke shows.
      Progressive and woke is not the same. Take Topa's story, that is as much a story about transitioning as it is about detransitioning.
      Topa's transition was forced upon her, and she wants to detransition to become the sex she was at birth. That can very well be used to argue against current politics.
      As for the Krill, they are analogous to countries like Iran, who are a firm theocracy, and it portrays the harms of such a society, while also showing it has strong adherents who truly believe.
      Once again, this isn't woke, this is just showing progressive ideas through fiction. Woke media sacrifices the fiction and the story to entirely focus on their message.
