I'll be buying this even though I was MASSIVELY disappointed by the original video release. The audio was shocking. I actually attended the Brisbane show only two nights before this Sydney show back in 1979. It was absolutely fantastic! They were supported by Whakoo and The Sports. I even watched the soundcheck when I should've been attending my Uni classes just 200 metres away.

There are plenty of Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy documentaries out there, some more detailed then others. I got this more for the concert at The Sydney Opera House in '78 as it's nice to finally own footage of Gary Moore on stage with Lizzy, fully restored audio too.

    • @wolf1977

Yeah, I don't know how interested I'll be in that Lynott doc but if that's the only way to get the remastered Sydney concert...I need to dig up my VHS tape. Be nice if at some point they could just put that out on its own (on BD)...Someone posted the full show to YT last year but it's from that VHS version with really poor sound quality. Moore does go nuts a few times! What could've been if he stayed with the band (but then maybe no We Want Moore, Wild Frontier, Run For Cover, Victims, Corridors etc)

The Sydney show was a hughe highwater mark for Thin Lizzy at the time. If memory serves me right I remember reading at the time (i was 15) that it set some kind of record for attendence to see 1 band or something only to be broken shortly after by the Who i believe..I'm sure someone reading this can correct this or add to it.
The sound of the live show is amazing.
By far the best it's ever sounded and probably couldn't be any better. Every release of it before this remaster always sounded horrible although it was evident the performances were top shelf.
Finally having the entire show intact is really a big plus.
Sadly though that portion of the set is a dvd and not a blu-ray but a small complaint concerning how great this show is and again the sonics of the thing is great and the bonus cd of the show is another added plus.
So I would highly recommend it just for the Sydney show alone.

For me this was an essential purchase as until now the only pro recorded live Lizzy with Gary Moore were Black Rose and The Rocker on Life and Cowboy Song and Boys are back on their Greatest HIts double CD - and because the sound on the Greatest Hits tracks was great I was always hoping that one day they'd release the rest of the show, and now they have.😄😄😄😄😄
The remixed sound also allows us to actually hear Gary Moore without straining to do so.
The lost tracks audio is to the same standafrd as the rest, the picture quality isnt as good but isnt bad by any means and compared to the previously released DVD of the show, or the You Tube versions of it, is as good if not better than that.
Pete is spot on about the documentary being more a tribute than a warts and all look back at Phil's life. Its very well made and well worth watching, and I have to admit getting a bit teary eyed while watching it.😢
For those of us in the UK, and old eough to remmebr the comic, - its no coincidence that Phil looks like Dennis the Menace on the front cover.🤓

    • @timsmith9953
      @timsmith9953 2 роки тому +1

@@wolf1977 I saw one such comment, but... This was a concert Gary staged, called "Gary Moore and Friends", following the unveiling of Phil's statue, on (what would have been) Phil's birthday... He only played one GM song to open (as Parisienne Walkways was written & recorded with Phil), had Brian Downey performing throughout, and invited each of the 3 early-era guitarists on to perform on "their" songs... (so each got their moment in the spotlight to pay tribute), as well as handling all the vocals himself and putting in a great all-round performance... I struggle to see how it could have been done better..! To be fair, most reviews just recognise it as a really good concert, worth watching... I really liked the 2-versions of Don't Believe a Word.. must have been great to have been there...

Thanks Pete. Looks like a contender for DVD/Blu-ray release of the year. I think part of the documentary was broadcast on T.V. over here in the U.K. and it was excellent. I look forward to watching the whole thing. I know everyone pronounces it Ly-not now, and it may be the correct one, but when I was growing up with early Thin Lizzy we all pronounced it Linnet. It still sounds better to me. I always urge fans to check out those early albums for the essential Irish roots of Phil's songs and storytelling. It really matters and it got a bit lost later on when they hit the big time. The first two releases were a bit uneven but Vagabonds is my absolute favourite.

Those early albums are great especially Vagabonds. It is Lizzy's best album after the double whammy attack of '76 in Jailbreak and Johnny. The playing's over the top on Black Rose for me & easily my fave TL album (of the 22 that I own), The Deluxe Edition adds a ton of extras. "My Sarah" is a wonderful ballad as a tribute to Lynott's newborn daughter & Moore's octave leads are great. "Waiting For An Alibi" & "Get Out Of Here" are two of my fave driving songs. "Got To Give It Up" is Lynott's cry for help...? The Deluxe package adds a nice slower version of "Don't Believe A Word", a nice version of "With Love", a cool rocker "Just The Two Of Us" & a longer version of "A Night In The Life Of A Blues Singer", a nice blues number. Also "Rockula Aka Rock Your Love" & some extra tracks from the Nassau recording sessions. Moore's guitar playing on "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend" is spectacular, gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it!

Mark Nauseef is on drums as Brian Downey asked for some time off the band's heavy touring schedule. It's 1978 and Thin Lizzy had just started their endless turmoil and instability that eventually led them to their demise in 1983. The Song for While I'm Away was well hyped, but IMO it failed to fil up to that hype. We don't have Robbo or Downey or John Sykes, but we do have the bas player form U2, which does not interest me whatsoever. It treads a well worn path, and I think Downey in particular is tired of telling the same stories over and over. There was studio footage near the end from I think Nassau Point, is there more of this? This is what I'd like to see, I love to see Scott and the lads talking about the albums, the making of the albums
The finally extended Sydney show is great, despite the short comings of the footage

Not great (and lame sound quality), interesting idea...A 1971 "Maxi-Single"/EP (4 tracks) called New Day, This has "Things Ain't Working Out Down At The Farm" on it but also the wonderful "Dublin" & "Remembering (Part 2)" (also on Whiskey In The Jar), and the somewhat strange "Old Moon Madness" (included as a Bonus track on Shades Of A Blue Orphanage)
