- Kevin McCarthy, a founding member of the Actors Studio and star of the classic film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," discusses his life and career and his close friendship with Montgomery Clift in this rare half-hour interview with cable TV host Skip E Lowe.
my mom and I used to see him all the time riding a bike in NYC in the 50s. He knew we recognized him and he always talked to us. He would yell, "hi girls, how are you?" He was so nice to everyone.
Thanks for sharing that heartwarming story ! Kevin always seemed like such a nice & friendly fellow ! What a long life & prolific career ! :-)
Great actor. One of the best. His Dr Bonnell in Invasion of the Body Snatchers was top tier acting. His facial expressions were so realistic. He could do it all Drama Horror Comedy. Greedy he was good too. Kirk Douglas Phil Hartman Ed Begely Jr.
Kevin McCarthy character in Twilight Zone Season 1 Ep 24 where he portrayed the character Professor Walter Jameson is truly a great classic!
Mr. McCarthy was truly a gifted and a great actor.
Would you believe me if I told you I'm old enough to know this man personally ? Plato!!! That's over 2000 years ago!
Kevin was a great man, i met him at The Sherman Oaks Newsstand, (Kevin lived in Sherman Oaks) he was pleased that someone younger knew alot about his career etc.. i assume he had time to chat because i said i don't want to keep you and he said i have the time and am enjoying this. Kevin sent me 3 signed photos. Rest In Peace!!
Wow ! What a great story ! Thank you so much for sharing, Robert ! I always liked Mr McCarthy. Always solid & dependable. Wonderful to learn he was such a nice fellow !
*a lot
What a nice person met him a few times when i worked at Kinko"s, he would come in and get some copies of photos for fans. He would always look for me to help him and i always enjoyed helping him. Rest in peace
Very good. Mr. McCarthy excellent guest, only problem too many unfinished stories. Thanks very much.
That's a Skip E Lowe problem.
He died 2010
I was going to say the SAME thing ! The late great Mr McCarthy wasn't allowed to finish some VERY interesting stories he had started ! VERY bad habit of Skip's ! For instance, Kevin was telling a story of how he was cast in "The Misfits" and Skip suddenly starts to ask about "Invasion of the Body Snatchers' ! GRRR !
An Actor's Actor Without Being A Method Actor.Just Being A Great Actor. RIP.
Kevin McCarthy was there on May 12, 1956 when Montgomery 'Monty' Clift had his car accident that left Monty's face partly disfigured. Kevin witnessed the accident which happened that evening.
He was driving,it was his fault!
Kevin McCarthy was such a good actor. I've seen him in film and television. However, I'll always love him in UHF which proves he can do comedy really well.
such a nice, sympathetic and modest person
Also a problem of Mr. Time. He packs a lot of Hollywood in 28 minutes 50 seconds. Thanks for sharing.
I finally got to watch Kevin in Death of a Salesman...WOW, he was outstanding as the son of March's character Willie. Was a dark tale of a family torn apart by deception.
Kevin is a GREAT actor!
The St Crispan's Day speech was excellent! Nice going, Kevin.
What year is this? I would have liked to have heard McCarthy talk more and mute the interviewer... maddening
well he died 2010
I’m guessing 2004 since he was talking about an anecdote he wrote 12 years before in 1992 ...
Kevin is sharp and I love his smile. Unfortunately I've only seen his episode on the Golden Girls as Blanche's fiance but he was so memorable.
What an entertaining interview!
Mr. McCarthy was a top actor. ' Body snatchers ' is such a great film. Dana Wynter, mmmmm....
What a gentleman, and a talent. They don't make them like that anymore.--Kevin Whelan
Skip E always seemed to miss the most obvious questions. He also used the full name of his guests addressing them as if each was a commodity, not a real human being. He interviews were erratic. Here he has the question about working with Vincent Price, which McCarthy never did! Lol
It must be said, Kevin McCarthy was Mary McCarthy's brother. Mary was an exceedingly well-known author and critic in a time when such people were well known to the general public. Her most famous book was "The Group," which I read as a teenager when it came out. I remember my mother reading her "Memories of a Catholic Childhood "(?) which was a bit of a rage when in came out in the 1950's. She, like her brother Kevin, was 1/4 Jewish, sufficient to get her incinerated by Hitler.
He was in so many films and tv programs. Very likable man. Talented. He should have done many more interviews on video. Did he have skin cancer? Those aren’t just age spots.
its age spots Don...I have many on my arms and I'm 69
PS...I am also an actress. When I work I cover all my facial mars/scars and spots...as did he
Where is the gong show hook when you need it, for this interviewer? 😶
awesome !!!
Kevin said he never met Jimmy Dean & Skip says later ' u were close to Jimmy Deen weren't you." Guy doesn't listen n his interviews. Skip luvs hearing story bout gay actors... Monty,Jimmy...
you nailed it
So well said and so well put ! Skip obviously wasn't listening ! I noticed that too right away ! I love so many of his guests but Skip was NOT a gifted interviewer !
loved him
witty brilliant cute...
I guess his Long Live Walter Jameson potion definitely finally wore off (McCarthy.)
McCarthy is so interesting but the interviewer is insufferable. Over and over he interrupts McCarthy as he is saying incredibly interesting things about Monty Clift and Marilyn Monroe to ask an inane question about something else.
I've noticed he always interrupts he's a terrible interviewer
@@Leahbumblebee872 He's the best.
Steve Martin demonstrated that Vin Diesel was seated in the front and classic movie star Mickey Rooney was seated way in the back.
what r u blabbing bout?
Did Skip ever have Jayne or Audrey Meadows on his program?
That would be great if he did!
What year was this interview?
Probably the late 90's or early 2000's.
It's amazing how young Kevin McCarthy looks for someone in his mid 80s, not only he looks young but sounds like someone much younger. I guess it must be a certain attitude to life.
Evidently this interview was in 2003. McCarthy referred to his role in The Misfits (1960) and he noted "that was 43 years ago." He was sharp as a tack here at age 89.
Mute the interviewer, please. He doesn't know anything. He is annoying in every possible way.
He's looking a lot like Alain Delon in old age.
why did he never INTERVIEW JAMES OLSON? he was in ACTORS STUDI
Agree, he never said finally about Clift changed his attitude before the car accident. Terrible bad interviewer !!!!
Annoying interviewer. Needs to understand his role . Talk less.
This interviewer is truly clueless LOL
Indeed ! He got some big names from the past to appear on his show but his style of interviewing was SO frustrating & maddening !!
@@jubalcalif9100 Oh you can cope.
long live walter jameson
This interviewer talks too much.............
Skip is the WORST interviewer!
John White Skip is the BEST interviewer!
mccarthy as known to all who knew monty and his life was seen as a totally dishonest man..who more than not was in love with clift though mccarthy claims he had no idea that clift was gay......something no one of that time believes.
in one good movie....he does not sound like clift and this guy doing the interview should turn done the flame gain some confidence and learn how to conduct an interview.
I've never heard that he had anything but a platonic relationship with Monty.
Was Kevin gay?
ricardo simon No.
ricardo simon that’s a,ways been a rumor.
no and dad of 5, married twice (married 2nd one until he died)
dad of 5 means nothing...many people believed mccarthy was in love with clift...and his explanation of their relationship is a lie....so..dont be so sure of stuff you dont know anything about
As far as I know, Kevin was not gay. But one of his closest friends, Montgomery Clift, was gay.
