Chick Illness- Coccidiosis & SNEEZING (Week 3 Raising Chicks)

- Coccidiosis is an intestinal disease that can be deadly to chickens and is very common in young chickens. Elaina talks about how to identify symptoms, how to treat it, and most importantly, how to prevent it.
Elaina also noticed some of her chicks sneezing in the brooder towards the beginning of week 3! She includes what steps she took to confirm it wasn't a respiratory illness and eliminate the sneezing.
About Us: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our mid 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead.

Great update.
Well done. Stay with it!!
Thank you!
Great knowledge.... Keep it up, watching from Kenya. That sneezing part was what I was looking for.
Glad it was helpful!
Mine are also sneezing, but mostly during sleep time. I suspect ventilation as well, will crack open a little vent since it's pretty cold outside. Thanks
They're so cute!!
They are growing quickly! Hope it warms up soon outside!
Great content, very informative. Thanx
Glad you found it to be helpful!
I have a male chick, he is 18 days old and suddenly he started sneezing. he is not showing any signs of lethargy or weakness just like your chicks. In the brooder I use kitchen paper because it is very absorbent when it comes to watery dropping and the brooder stays dry at all times. he is active, happy, but a little sneezer xD
Hey I have 3 week old chicks eating and drinking is very normal the only problem I had was the one of them sneezing I’d say once 5 mins and try to scratch the nose and also shake there head. I was wondering if that’s normal and if yours were doing that as well?! Please respond!
So I got chicks about a week and 3 days ago, there at the stage these ones in the vid are at, they also started sneezing little here and there, did yours stop doing it?
They did stop eventually but I can't remember the exact age! They are all a little over a year old now and do not sneeze.
Hi! I have some sneezing chicks as well, particularly one of them she does it a lot and they also do like a little single head shake. Were your chicks doing the same thing? They seem fine otherwise but I'm worried about the sneezing and head shaking. Thank you!
Yes! Ours were doing the same thing! To this day they sneeze and shake their head every so often. They are now 5 months old. Check for nose drainage! Also look for signs of when the sneezing happens. Ours always happened around feeding when they’d get excited and kick up all the pine shavings. Definitely call a local vet and get their opinion! ☺️
Did you have the fan blowing away from the brooder or into the brooder?
Away, to help pull out dust
My 2weeks old turkey poults start sneezing, but don't know why. They eating and drinking well, what can i do?
Try the coarse pine shavings if you are currently using fine for bedding, and put a ventilation fan in to try to remove the dust from whatever enclosure you have them in. Ours got much better after doing this!
Our chicks are acting very tired they also keep opening their mouths also found some blood in the poop not sure what it is they have.
I'd recommend calling a vet!
@@MasonDixonAcres I gave them chick drench they seem to be getting better
When I was holding my chick he sneezed and I felt wetness hit my hand. What does that mean?
It was just their "snot", try reducing dust to see if it gets better!
Pronounced Coc sid i o sis. Just sayin'. Good info, though.
Oh thanks!
