    I had my oldest hen sneezed and it was really congested sounding. The next day my broody hen started sneezing too. Treated everyone with vetrx daily and did a deep clean to the coop and all waterers and feeders got scrubbed down with acv before each refill. Then alternated between rooster booster and the oregano and tyme electrolytes mixes. After a few days everyone was sounding clear and acting like their usual selves. Thank fully. But I will be keeping an eye out for the denagard at my tsc to have on hand.

    I’m using individual oral dosing of water soluble Tylan on my chicken but just a head’s up, from everything I’ve seen, the injectable Tylan can also be diluted and used orally if, like me, you’re not qualified or are worried about the injection side effects. I’ve only heard of Denaguard for treatment of mycoplasma, as something that basically puts it into remission, I’d guess you’d say, since that’s carried for life. Thanks, I’ll have to look into Denaguard more as basically everything is prescription only now.

    Mine are 3 years old now I had one sound like Minnie Mouse when she sneezed in winter so I kept on on her and it passed luckily I’ve had them for 2half years 8 bar rocks and 8 road island reds 16 hens and 2 roosters one of each lost the bar rock rooster he fell off roost and broke his ribs when they were all 1/ half years old but every body gets apple cider vinegar once a month / I feed them veggies and fruit once a day and they have fresh water daily and laying pellets 24/7 . I feed meal worms and sunflower seeds when I let them out all year long if I run out of meal worms not often I feed scrambled eggs or tuna for replacement in cold winter they get oatmeal so far so good👍

      Ugh that’s frustrating I’m sorry. I feel like during the Covid shutdown, backyard chickens became super popular (and with good reason!). But now that the works is shifting back into balance a lot is changing to make more of a profit. 😏

    I have not had to deal with any sickness so far in the flock that I have now. Knock on wood! This is good info to know. Id be interested in the ivermectin that you use for deworming and the details of that as well. Do you already have a video for that task? Speaking of the yogurt, I gave my girls a big fat dollup of some full fat plain yogurt with "sprinkles" yesterday for a little treat to help cool them off. Its looked like an ice cream treat LOL. They absolutely loved it and made a happy plate. I used the henhouse reserve food on top for the sprinkles but you could use the red pepper flakes you mention or whatever you want to use.

      @realsimplemama  2 роки тому

      Hi! On that I’m not sure - I would assume yes on the garlic, and no on the other two. But I would ask a vet or look it up to get more solid answers - just to be safe! ✌🏼❤️🐓

    Hi RSM, have you ever had/treated chicken with swollen eye? I'm afraid one of mine got coryza and looking it up, it's infectious. I tried to pop the swelling but either I didn't do it right, or hard enough, didn't want to hurt the chicken, or it's not as easy as it looks/pimple busting. I don't think I need to make any incision.

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  Рік тому

      Oh no! No I haven’t treated for that I’m sorry. Look into a local vet if you can, or a local farmer who can help. I would also assume that a warm wet compress would help with the swelling and removal. There are cream medications you can get too but I can’t remember the name (and I don’t want to say the wrong thing as I’m not a medical professional). Keep me updated ✌🏼❤️🐓

      @@realsimplemama At this time, I'm only able applying VetRX because she's very fidgety. In UA-cam I saw one Australian vet and another in Africa. The australian vet pressed the bulge around the chicken's eye and the snot was out from the nostril. It's still clear and runny. And he then swabbed the throat along the ceiling of the mouth/beak with qtip.
      The african vet also squeezed the bulge on the infected chicken's eye but (this is what I see on other videos with coryza) what came out looked like fresh corn kernel - soft shelled and gooey inside, even the color looked like white corn or pale yellow.

    I have a big problem now with my 5 chickens. They are 4 years old, but never had such a crazy molt like this year, but the problem is, it seem like they got sick as well. Sneezing all the time, less active than usual and have diarrhea, but no other symptoms, no blocked sinuses, nothing else. It begin 3 weeks ago and I took them to the vet, he said it's probably an upper respiratory infection and gave me antibiotics to put in their water, but they don't drink it. They rather die from thirst than drink even a little bit from that water. I tried everything, nothing helped :( So I give them garlic and apple cider vinegar and lots of treats, like yogurt, fresh veggies etc. but I don't know what else can I do?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  Рік тому

      Oh no I’m sorry. What was the medication? Is it possible to dilute it more? I can think of other random helpful things like oil of oregano and Denagard but it’s hard to know their exact diagnosis. Could it be cocci?
      You can also give them foods high in water like lettuce and grapes to keep them hydrated, or put treats in a shallow dish of water like a pie pan so they get hydrated as they snack. Email me and let’s see if I can help more. ✌🏻❤️🐓theMama@realsimplemama.com

      I know this is an old comment but I had to say, I’m having the same issue with my chicken but signs of possible throat mites also started to appear, in addition. I put her on an oral ivermectin treatment which the first dose gave her a 100% turn around within 1-2 hrs. Cleared up the raging diarrhea & had her acting back to normal. After a couple weekly treatments of that, I noticed she’s still breathing a lil heavier than normal at night before she goes to sleep so I decided to start her on the antibiotic (tylosin) the vet gave me as well. I’ve read that stuff is BITTER. Sour & bitter are two flavors chickens can detect so it’s no wonder yours won’t drink the water. Prob tastes like a poison to them. I have to mix mine up with water & syringe it to her. It’s a pain, esp bc it’s the powder form I’m using, but it’s the only thing that’s been possible. Hope this helps someone in the future 😊
