I’ll never shoot without a back bar again. Also it must be properly weighted. I do the whole close my eyes deal and check the bubble and it’s night and day difference.
Ok, got rid of my sight and went with Black gold and now I am running with Cutter 12” out front 10” out back, love these stabilizers!!! Pull my pack/bow up into my stand, 25’ up with the self climber, pull out my sight slide it on, pull out the cutters pop them on and I am good to go. Thanks for always trying new gear for our benefit!!!!
Had a look at Cutters website, couldn't find the diameter of their stabilisers. I shoot target and use Atomic Rods - Alpha Series stabilisers. 1/2 inch diameter, Ultra high modulus carbon, Ultra stiff and light.
I wonder how much of the experience was a placebo affect, compared to actuality. Wifey should have put a random set up on, blindfolded you and had you draw then pull the blind fold off to shoot. I'd like to see the results then. Great older video I enjoyed revisiting...
Would be an interesting test. Ive been messing with bars on the news bows again this year and still feel like the biggest jump is from 10 to 12, but I really like running a 15

First time I’ve ever really and truly understood why stabilizers work. That magnet demonstration was clutch. Guess I’m buying a longer front and a new rear stabilizer. Thanks? Haha
I’ve found that the weight*Arm(length)=Moment formula has come in pretty handy in the archery world. Whether it’s calculating the rear stabilizer weight, or determining what the FOC would be if I added a larger broadhead.
...ugh.... where was this video 3 weeks ago. I just bought a stabilizer because I was getting quite a bit of sway issues at longer ranges (70 yards). I did get a longer stabilizer and it does help... but im wishing I went to a longer one yet. The way you've explained the sway switching between bars is exactly what my issues are. Another awesome good dry humored video. Some of the best content around. Not much for visual stimulation because its most shots of you speaking, but with the actual meat content keeps me hooked.
if you don't have a back bar I highly recommend getting a back bar before making your front bar any longer. I think it'll probably make a big difference
Great explanation of stabilization! I think this is the most mis-understood equipment in archery. I spend more time explaining this than anything in my archery shop. I have noticed the best weight distribution to achieve the most stabilization is a ratio of 2-3 times the weight on the back bar vs. the front bar. 90% of the VXR's we have setup have been on average of 6-9 oz. on back bar and 2-5 oz. on front bar. I'm also using the same size 15" front bar and 12" back bar on my personal setup. We have been primarily using Bee Stinger bars but I will check out the Cutters. Great video man........keep on keeping on!
@@brandonmcdonald6121 One thing I do is hang my bow from an overhead hook from the top cam and look at my sight bubble. I will swing my back bar in and out and add weight to get that bubble in line. Of course, this is only accurate if your third axis is set correctly.
The Conquest Smackdown Pro .500 is as close to what your wanting . I haven't seen a set that thin and that stiff. Thin as a sharpie marker and stiff as the blue pill! The are pricey but I love them... Great video all things I do as well. Weight is heavy unless its balanced.

I never really considered the back bar to be so pivotal in terms of bow balance. One thing you could have touched on with the back bar is the angle too. If folks arent the biggest fans of stacking weight back there to better balance, changing the angle to be a bit more protruding also affects the bows balance. Good stuff, will be checking out Cutter Stabs!

Yeah, that's a great idea. That back mount I've got was almost $200! It'll be tough for them to make something that's actually a adjustable in the rear.
I can tell at full draw that it's unquestionably a fact that I need a back bar with a front bar just so I'm not using my muscles to influence the pin to stay on target 💯
I can honestly say I look forward to Brandon's videos more than any other UA-cam videos. I know it's gonna be instructional, I know the video and audio will be top notch and most of all I know I will be spending more money...LOL!! BTW Brandon I received my brand new Traverse last week and I can not believe how great this bow is. Now the decision needs to be made if I will hunt with the VXR 28, VXR 31.5 or the Traverse? The draw on the Traverse is some very special and holds like a stone just like the 31.5. No wonder this bow was such a sleeper last year!!
Thanks for the compliment. I've got my traverse turned down to 66 lbs and the draw is so dang nice. Still love shooting that bow. Have one of the ultraview grips coming to try it out. We will see how that goes.
Best video I have seen on stabilizers. Well timed because I have been messing with mine just before hunting season. Pro tip: always mess with as much of your dialed in bow setup just before you leave hunting. Equipment confidence is overrated. 😂
Great vid. I also watched that vid that Levi had put out. I just got a VXR a month or so ago, and when I put the tight spot on it, it immediately fell over to the right. I put a Bee Stinger on the front with 1 oz and a back bar with 4 oz. the back was moved out two notches and down 3. Sits pretty much dead straight up and down but I am no where near as capable a shot as you. Keep the vids coming.
Thoughts on the quivalizer then Brandon? For the exact reasons you brought up, lighter weight, more weight being farther out at front. I absolutely love mine. Significantly lightened up my load
I've never tried one but since you can adjust it from horizontal to vertical I can see why it would be useful. The only issue is if it's windy and you want the stabilization you've basically got a giant sail on the front of your bow. The crappy thing about where I live is we are down in the valley so I don't get much wind here to test archery gear!

Brandon Mcdonald I have a regular detachable Mathews one and it works good upside down. Can take it off in the tree. Not sure about the tight spot. Never looked into it
Also how is the dampening in the cutters? They look solid. I will give them a look. Love when every day people make something nice to find a niche in a market they love just because. If you can make a living out of it, that's the dream!
Rewatching this again. This year I'll get my bow balanced. Since I knew any added weight was a good thing for stability, I threaded some chunks of steel and slapped them on... After a year of shooting, I weighed them. The front weight is 16oz on a 10" Octane bar.. The chunk I bolted on the bottom riser hole was 18oz!!! Severely front heavy setup... I'll get it right, with your help. Everyone I ask says the weight you use is "personal preference". AKA: I can't help you. Finally at Big Sky I had a guy to give recommendations... He said take all that weight off and just use 6oz out front. That should be my starting point. What say you?
If you step back to your max distance and take your stabilizers off, put them back on and then start messing around with the weights you will definitely notice the difference.
If you are carrying your stabs in your backpack when you are walking in, you ought to tighten the QD nut down the the bottom so it doesn't "Walk off" of the stabilizer en route.
I'd love to see your review on a front and rear stabilizer setup from crossroads archery the crossover stabilizers look awesome im on a budget so haven't purchased a set yet but just a thought. Love your videos! Thanks

Brandon, good video. The improvement in accuracy from the 6 and 8 inch setup and the 10 and 12 was much more significant than the improvement from that to the 12 and 15. Would have liked a little more information on the difference there and if you think that the diminishing returns are worth the extra length and why. Great stuff and thanks.
I like the 15 because when I'm out in the woods hunting I can lean it against a tree in a way that my scope isn't touching the ground. Since I'm tall I can also tuck it under my arm in a way that the bow kind of wedges itself in my armpit and hold the end of the stabilizer with the 15. I think the biggest takeaway for me was getting up to at least 12 in on that front bar

Brandon you should check out Quattro Archery and their stabilizers. They are a lot bigger than the cutters but what Hanno is doing is super impressive. So far from what little but I’ve messaged him he is a super great guy. Company is based out of South Africa.

Hi Brandon! Great video...as always! My question is at what length is the stabilizer not “worth it?” 10F/8R stabile enough generally speaking or is the incremental gain better to comfortably go to 12F/10 or 8R? Is a 6” rear even worth it?

What’s the lengths of your stabilizers? And what weights are you running? I’m gonna pick some up but I wanna know a ballpark of how much weight to get.
I've got 12 oz total right now. 3 out front and 9 in the back. I think I've settled on a 15" front and an 8" back but with longer narrow weights so it's probably more like a 10"
What weight did you need on the 15" front and the 12" back to balance your VXR 31.5? Also, do you think you'll get to your Traverse vs. VXR shoot off before Mathews discontinues the Traverse? I'm hoping for a VXR 33 or 35 this year but guess that if that happened the Traverse would be gone. Thanks.
Ended up with 3oz out front and 11 out back with a full quiver. Truthfully I could have probably added another 5-6 out back to offset the quiver. My left to right point of impact changed with the quiver by 6-9" at 100 yards. The weight changed my grip ever so slightly.

My bow leans into my hand away from my thumb just a bit. That way I'm balancing with my entire arm, not just my thumb.
when im at full draw i have a hard time keeping the pin on target and always below the bullseye

I think a back bar changed my game for sure. With my Fast Eddie XL sight I needed much more back bar than front to compensate for that big sight.

If you flip your quiver upside down and run the broadheads at the bottom of your bow it balances better than with them at the top

Brandon Mcdonald I have a regular detachable Mathews one and it works good upside down. Can take it off in the tree. Not sure about the tight spot. Never looked into it

I put them against my ramrods, bee stingers and flatlines and I couldn't tell the difference. So I'll say it seems adequate.

yup you making me want to spend some money, more specifically, buy a backbar system.

Rewatching this again. This year I'll get my bow balanced. Since I knew any added weight was a good thing for stability, I threaded some chunks of steel and slapped them on... After a year of shooting, I weighed them. The front weight is 16oz on a 10" Octane bar.. The chunk I bolted on the bottom riser hole was 18oz!!! Severely front heavy setup... I'll get it right, with your help. Everyone I ask says the weight you use is "personal preference". AKA: I can't help you. Finally at Big Sky I had a guy to give recommendations... He said take all that weight off and just use 6oz out front. That should be my starting point. What say you?
I generally run 3-4oz out front and 10-12 out back. Never ran heavier but sometimes lighter.
@Brandon Mcdonald what do you think about an offset front bracket for the front stabilizer Like mathews makes, so then you can counter the quiver.

Good video. I’ve never used a stabilizer on my bows but I’ve thought about it. This is making me think more. Lol
If you step back to your max distance and take your stabilizers off, put them back on and then start messing around with the weights you will definitely notice the difference.
If you are carrying your stabs in your backpack when you are walking in, you ought to tighten the QD nut down the the bottom so it doesn't "Walk off" of the stabilizer en route.
The nuts and the dial that holds the scope on all go Ina special little pouch on my pack. That would suck!!

Brandon, good video. The improvement in accuracy from the 6 and 8 inch setup and the 10 and 12 was much more significant than the improvement from that to the 12 and 15. Would have liked a little more information on the difference there and if you think that the diminishing returns are worth the extra length and why.

I like the 15 because when I'm out in the woods hunting I can lean it against a tree in a way that my scope isn't touching the ground. Since I'm tall I can also tuck it under my arm in a way that the bow kind of wedges itself in my armpit and hold the end of the stabilizer with the 15. I think the biggest takeaway for me was getting up to at least 12 in on that front bar

My Hoyt is now hanging in the shop for sale and I am hunting with the VXR this year. It truly is an amazing bow thanks for your info on the bows for this year. I am learning a lot from you.

Brandon you should check out Quattro Archery and their stabilizers. They are a lot bigger than the cutters but what Hanno is doing is super impressive. So far from what little but I’ve messaged him he is a super great guy. Company is based out of South Africa.

15" front bar with 3oz of weight and the 8" back with 10oz. Back will be lighter without my quiver on.

Hi Brandon! Great video...as always! My question is at what length is the stabilizer not “worth it?” 10F/8R stabile enough generally speaking or is the incremental gain better to comfortably go to 12F/10 or 8R? Is a 6” rear even worth it?

The shorter the bars the heavier I've liked. I've got 3 out front and 9 out back right now with a quiver full of arrows

What’s the lengths of your stabilizers? And what weights are you running? I’m gonna pick some up but I wanna know a ballpark of how much weight to get.
I've got 12 oz total right now. 3 out front and 9 in the back. I think I've settled on a 15" front and an 8" back but with longer narrow weights so it's probably more like a 10"

Yes, but it takes something like 4x the weight on a 6" vs 12". If you can get to a 12" front bar it'll make a huge difference.

3 our front and 10 out back right now. Without my quiver I'd lighten up the rear a bit more.

What weight did you need on the 15" front and the 12" back to balance your VXR 31.5? Also, do you think you'll get to your Traverse vs. VXR shoot off before Mathews discontinues the Traverse? I'm hoping for a VXR 33 or 35 this year but guess that if that happened the Traverse would be gone. Thanks.
Ended up with 3oz out front and 11 out back with a full quiver. Truthfully I could have probably added another 5-6 out back to offset the quiver. My left to right point of impact changed with the quiver by 6-9" at 100 yards. The weight changed my grip ever so slightly.

Sounds like your axis needs tweaked on your scope more than the bow. What scope you using?
